  2. Made quite a bit of progress with the Oasis MfmeTools layout extractor. Now extracts basic background/reel/lamp images, along with data

  3. Smidge more progress Not got my Delphi pixel font scraper in from Arcade Sim converter yet, but have got useful debug output set up of my new capture system in MfmeTools - so for the previous post where I was monitoring component numbers, it's just monitoring for changed pixels, now I can output the current capture area (a simple test of the red value; <128 black, >128 white)... Here is the initial component number in the test Andy Capp layout (161) - if you squint you can make it out ...and here is the final (first) component number when we've clicked all the way back until no more pixels changing: It's a bit grainy, as the 'Z Order' number on the Properties window in MFME is in an aliased font, but that is not the case for most other test that will be processed by the delphi pixel font scraper to be ported in next. Example of the aliased Z Order: 0 text: Now I have this handy debug output, it should be much less painful to try get everything aligned with my new scraper, since I'm not working blind The source comparison image I use for scraping ASCII Delphi font characters:

The least I can do for this wonderful community and all the work Wizard has done for his MFME is giving something back. After @woodsy asked me for a redraw of this machine I hope it will now be playable in his true greatness. I hope you appreciate the amount of work (lots of time) and my gesture of saying thank you. Thanks goed to Wizard for the joy he brought us with MFME and to woodsy and Vectra for testing.

  5. More prettying up of the MFME Import window in the Layout Editor - more correct reel scaling, and reel overlay images: Technically not necessary to make this stuff look that accurate, as this is just to store imported MFME layout so when a layout artist (or someone working on converting layouts to 3d machines) saves a Layout Editor 'project file', this can be stored along with the actual 3d Oasis views of the full panels and individual panels. That said, it's bothersome if it looks scruffy, it should kinda resemble the imported MFME layout! So I'll prob also do reel lamps, and maybe even the odd 'fake perspective' vertical 2d reel scaling effect that MFME does (so symbols at top/bottom be squished vertically to approximate a 3d effect)... just so things look vaguely correct, for this Import preview view

  6. All bare bones and buggy, but have now successfully importing (and running) an MFME layout in the Layout Editor, extracted using the 'MFME Tools' standalone Oasis component (previous tests had been done using an old Arcade Sim extract I already had lying around).

I originally made this layout as a £10 version pre mfme5.0 (06/2016) but really wanted a £6 token version and a brighter version than what we already have so finally remade the decals for it so not a totally new release and still on its mini 1024wdx format (it does go full scale on laptop ok), if decent images arise for this £6 20p version then i'd certainly like to re-re-release it in a full large dx. don't think the artwork within the dx will upscale well @johnparker007 Stuck on what to make atm so answers on a postcard please

  11. Yeah, I was going to say. Most of my games were pirated and passed round school so I've played a shit ton of games but not always a clue how to play them. I think pirating games when you was a kid in the 80's was part of the computer scene in general, I almost enjoyed that part compared to actually playing the games. J

  13. So finally finished my small bartop icade conversion. The cabinet lent itself perfectly for the job although was certainly tough trying to squeeze everything in! So I bought off Ebay an ION Icade off eBay for £18, a HP 15" 4:3 touchscreen monitor for £12 and a Dell micro PC for £40. I ordered an Ipac, Pac drive and a load of buttons from Arcade World along with a Barcrest button and 5v leds off eBay. I had to cut the top pieces of the side panels off the icade to accommodate the monitor which I stripped out of it's casing. I wanted the sound to be pretty good as that's the best part for me, the nostalgic machine sounds and music so I fixed a 2.1 edifier PC speaker system to it. The sub on the top and the satellite speakers in the back as didn't want them sticking out. I simply used sticky back metal effect plastic on the sides. I replaced the control panel for a nice bit of wood. I used 10 main buttons, an exit button on the left side and a coin one on the right as well as 2 small buttons I use for volume under the fake coin slot which I wired to a USB on the PC. I am very pleased with the way it turned out

  18. Suppose you could save out the bmps reduce their width exactly to the pixel on both sides to avoid “jumping” of lamps maybe enlarge the art for a bigger layout then re lamp the layout again would take a few hours each but possible if it’s only side art to the right then that’s far easier

  19. Great work - this may be how the machine plays anyway but I noticed if I open the S DOOR before the full jackpot had been paid, it guaranteed the next board was invincible and always went to jackpot either to the top or nudges. I still couldn't get it to really payout more since I couldn't get it to board often enough - great fun just getting jackpot again and again though !

  21. Really like this. I vaguely remember playing this in my local pub but it wasn't around for long. Anyway, I'll try both versions; with and without tokens and see what the gameplay is like. Other than that, the scans, sounds and overall look is spot on. Well done Vecs !

  26. In my experience in all these 3 hi lo machines, If you are going for a 3rd hi or lo to get the slow down bonus, it'll do that all day long, until it's ready to pay out £10 +

  32. A little bit hacky, but more progress on the MfmeTools Extractor. Usually when right-clicking the left side of the layout to pull up the Properties window, we land straight on the first component (the background). This isn't always the case though, sometimes there might be a component like a checkbox there. So we must get back to the first component... I've added a large 'dummy test' lamp on the left of this Andy Capp layout I'm testing with, so we can test getting back to the first component. Here is the new window scraping code getting its first use, watching the component number change while clicking left, until it sees it has successfully reached the first component:

  34. A small tech update on this project I have the general custom window scraping written (so it can grab the RGB value of specific pixels from the various MFME windows). Currently working on integrating that functional scraping code into MFME Tools - the first use of which will be to simply scrape the component number from the properties window (so we can 'rewind' back to component #1 after getting into Properties - this is how I found it best to do under the Arcade Sim Layout Scraper). The plan is that this custom scraping code, whilst also being complete independent of Unity (MFME Tools is written in C# as a Windows executable), will also provide missing stability, as the scraping system I used under Unity to drive Arcade Sim and also the layout extraction, had a tendency to crash! So hopefully when this is fully developed, I can leave it with a massive batch of DX layouts, and it will not crash even after many hours of extracting... Commits are all here for those interested in the code, this is all open source: https://github.com/johnparker007/Oasis/commits/main/
