Aye you can't beat a bit of digital archaeology :) 

I remember a couple of years back getting into an in-depth discussion with a couple of guys about the arcade game 'Star Force', I think we were talking about a graphical quirk.  As I'm an emulator guy, I fired up MAME and got into the tiles - and found some unfinished sprites not used in the game, which showed the original pixel artist's process (drawing white outline, then filling in the shaded art from there).

I've fired it up again and dug 'em out - we think these are started but not finished/included gfx (the white outline sprites) - a snapshot of the artist's WIP - geeky stuff, but interesting :) 

And thanks for the positive feedback on the arcade sim project :)

Ah wow @Tommy c thanks very much mate, some good side profiles in there! :D   Even if I get better at modelling, I'm certain the side profiles are crucial to modelling the cabinets fairly accurately, so this is all gold :) 

You may recognise your excellent BWB Rat Race layout among some previously shown ones (with now working alphas) as a new addition in this latest vid... ;)

It was just way behind percentage.   This machine was all about taking the value via the gamble.  Interestingly if you can snag the jackpot from nudges this won’t affect the gamble, so a free win of sorts.  It wasn’t that common to obtain the jackpot via nudges.

These liked to give you a couple of fake gamble wins to entice you into thinking the machine was still jackpot ready, especially just after you’d gambled the ladder out.

Brilliant machines, you could ‘plug’ them and max the bank out to just under £5, so you could actually defraud a lot of these units if that was your bag.  You needed access to the plug though as it required some exact timing ;)

Yeah pretty much all of these BWB machines you would just gamble out.  Great machines.  You could make some decent money on these back in the day in busy arcades, they didn’t need 100’s of pound back in to have some profit in them.

My favourites were Lucky Lady, Fruit Swop, Step n Skip, but there were so many decent variants of pretty much the same machine ;)

All sounds like simpler times for the budding fruit machine fraudster! :) 

I've started looking into the Frontend / Editor now (gonna be a big old job, but it's time I think), so I'm hoping one day there will be a recreation of 'Dirty Verns' in Rhyl for us all to enjoy... ;)

I used to play there it`s was the last one in the area to have many older machines. Worked  just next door at Les Harkers for 15yrs. Verns and the Queens arcade are now in the process of getting knocked down. What a shame now only 4 arcades left in Rhyl.

Extremely early look at the frontend so far in action, along with some of unfinished camera control code in action (using the mouse) in what will be the arcade editor :)

 Can you simulate 3 inches of dust, grime and cig ash on top of the machines and a carpet that hasn't seen an hoover since the invention of the dyson!!

More very early WIP on the arcade editor: slightly improved camera control (I have a new idea that should make it better), some test buttons/menus, adding a sample machine, testing a colored 'highlight' (just applying random highlights).  This highlight will be for stuff like if you are moving a machine around, it'll be green if it's in a valid place, or red in it's in an invalid place, like right in front of another machine/halfway through a wall etc...
