Well that escalated quickly, I'm not sure that suggestions of murder (or at least inflicting serious injury on a person) are an appropriate reaction to someone being rude to you on Facebook.

Yes I know you didn't seriously mean that we should start shooting DVD sellers, (well, hopefully not at least), but all this is doing is starting conflict and introducing bad blood into a situation where there are no good outcomes.

This is like the war on drugs, it's futile and just leads to harm. The demand is there, it isn't going to go away, people want an easy and relatively inexpensive way to get an FME collection, the DVD/USB sellers are providing that, and whilst the demand exists it will be met, whatever the apparent 'sanctions' are.

The way to fix this is to provide an officially supported alternative via the main FME sites, we can talk about the specifics of how it'd work and what it'd look like in due course, and frankly, that'd be a far better use of everyone's time.

To be fair the people that made the machines were the people that coded them, designed the hardware they ran on, designed the artwork... not people like myself that took the copyrighted software and copyrighted artwork and put the two together on a PC using 3rd party software.  I know myself (and others) put effort in, but I don't do it for money, I do it because I want to see machines emulated, and if it wasn't for us using the 'stolen' bits (ROMs and artwork) our job would infinitely more difficult. 

Am I a bit annoyed that someone has done this? Yes, absolutely, especially given no credit is paid to the people who designed the layouts, or the emulator author. Am I annoyed to the point of wishing malice on someone? Not really. He's not directly harming anyone, and don't think it's exactly going to be a get-rich-quick scheme. He certainly doesn't hurt me, I'll carry on, I won't be put off by someone doing that.

I'm currently sorting out a new MAME collection on my little arcade cabinet I put together. In doing so I've downloaded a few GB of arcade ROMs. I was actually, at one point, on eBay and going to buy a pre-built SD card, complete with all the ROMs, and ready set up to go. Probably in the £15 > £20 range, so not a million miles away from what this chap is charging. 

In the end I decided to do it myself, but I was quite close to paying someone for their effort in having a set ready made, something they had no right to be selling.  They probably just grabbed an image full of copyrighted ROMs from a torrent site or similar and stick them on SD. Still, I was tempted because it would have been easier.

I assume this chap is doing the same. Charging for a service for people who are either unable or unwilling to download loads of ROMs, and spend time trying to set things up. They just want to fire up loads of machines and play. Something you can't do on here without donating anyway, and even then you would spend hours downloading duplicates, cataloguing, e.t.c.

I'm not justifying what he is doing at all. I just don't get that annoyed about it. People have always made a profit off the work of others, he's no different.

The difference with MAME is it's open source, so anyone can do whatever they like. MFME is not and thus has T&Cs with it. 

Unfortunately these idiots are breaking said T&Cs which is downright disrespectful to Wizard. This is why people are getting pissed off...

However, as I've said, just keep reporting these pages/auctions if you want to make it more difficult for them. It's a waste of time trying to bait them, threaten them, etc.

Nope, another fallacy. I believe (correct me if wrong) that Chris used some 'assets' of MAME, and he should have actually made MFME open source, but decided against it. Obviously not having a go, just stating facts.

In that case I stand corrected - as for the MFME and MAME argument, I don't know the specifics but I thought that was only in the older MFME and that he contributed some stuff back to MAME to shut everyone up... I am probably wrong again here, but that's what I thought was the case. There are many people that have been around FME a lot longer than me that will know otherwise.

EDIT: Quickly scanned over the MAME FAQ and it looks like people are not permitted to be selling MAME either.

You could be right, I'm honestly not sure. My memory isn't what it was, that's just what I recall and it was a long time ago.

Just felt compelled to post RE:MAME as it's a common misconception that you can basically do what you want as it's free, and it seemed relevant at the moment

This is the way forward and will lift the fog.  FME is confusing to the average punter with all the different MFME builds, gam files changing to fml, 20.1 only running on W10 and so on.  It all needs cleaning up and making more simple.

In the meantime someone could try and get hold of the two discs that fat cunt is selling, and they can be hosted on this site.  Cheers for your hard work you fucking parasite - we'll take it from here

Coin Ops and Pipmick go together iirc and is an older emulator. Coin Ops is free too so that was stolen on the demo too.

I believe this is the case, to add a bit more detail.... Sometime in late 2015/early 2016 (Around about the MAME 0.170 release) their license was changed to GPL2 but most of the code falls under BSD-3 https://opensource.org/licenses/BSD-3-Clause. I believe Wizard did express his concern around the time of the transition fearing he technically couldn't release a newer version of MFME but the BSD-3 license allows free redistribution as long as credit is given which paved the way for the release of 5.0.

Its was us that shut the facebook seller down, as we seen you were having trouble doing so, i am not saying we done you a favor by doing so.
Half of you guys have been trying for the last couple of months, this took us a minute to write a email, and a hour that it took facebook to reply.
And he was about to launch on ebay too, as he was messaging us moaning we got him shut down, can i sell it blah blah blah, errr no.
