I read of talk about ‘trapping’ the machine and the like, I wonder firstly how much actually profit would the typical player make? Would they still have to put in say £30-40 to get the jackpot making a profit of £60? Would the machine still of given that £60 profit without the ‘know how’ earlier on

and I’ve often wondered on these modern machines you always appear to  need to ‘force’ the machine as in go for jackpot/mega streak like you do in mfme £100 in for a small £20 profit where as you could’ve simply taken a deal feature or standard feature £10 in for a £30 profit

back in the day you never ‘forced’ for jackpot as the feature further down the trail were ok

The deal boards are generally more progressive on modern £100 machines. Mostly you won't get a Mega Deal until you build up the value by not taking any wins. The Mega Deal obviously gives you more chance of getting a larger amount. On some machines you have to fill up all the symbols next to the amounts which is the equivalent of Mega Deal and this activates the larger deal amounts. For example on Oliver Twist filling up all the treasure chests.

It is possible to Mega Deal after forcing for the Mega Streak and I have actually got £100 from the after deal. Generally people just force these modern machines for the chance of a £150 Mega Streak.

My issue with more modern machines was that you could easily get sucked in to a force. When you were £20 in after about 20 seconds with no win the frustration takes over (at least it did in my case). Must have been by design. Then when you finally got a board it was a £2 block. They had no gameplay, it was like too high a percentage of money in went into the 'jackpot' pot and wasn't distributed to the lower wins.

Glad I stopped playing in pubs years ago.

I agree with all of this and still dabble today.

I don't force pretty much anything - take profit till it dries up - just as well off as if forcing.  The mind set of Forcing seems locked in since the £10/£15/£25 barcrest and the £25/£35/£70 Red gaming.... not to mention the stuff that came after.  I know plenty of stories were players have said a BETCOM was offering £20 1st board - took £140 to go for £150..... should have walked and not wasted an hour!

Genuine Traps - like the £70 Barcrests or some of the Deals were worthwhile. Some of the DOND's you could frequently trap off 2 or maybe 3 deal boards - the machines defo didnt "see" this and was ready to pay - or they would not have chipped them out.

The "Power up" machines are just fucked as well.

Right theough the all cash era from £10 to £70- you would walk into pub machines happy for no reason at all and spewing thier guts first board. So a trap may not have made any extra money the value was always there. You would play a £15 Barcrest and it would flash 1st board - cos someone had worked after the JP and it was streaking............

So many examples down the years... one of the best being a 5 reel red (with a cashpot)  me and my mate went to play.... he was parking up.... i walked in to get drinks..... no one behind bar.... £1 in machine for £70... another £1 in for the £35 repeat and walked out b4 my mate had made it to the door,  he asks no good then? ....."nah..... cashpot full but i though the £103 profit was good enough!" We went back for the CP that night.... annoyingly it took a whole £20!

In the busy busy busy and sorely missed arcade days - Ive seen JP's left on line that  then hold...... Red hot Rolls with Jp's on the line... credit in and it goes Roll Em! Auto pay roller coaster - on fill up day - exactly £10 off full.... Odd... so watch the lights it seems to be impyling last win roller coaster....20p for a tenner... 20p for £9.60... 20p no repeat - RUDE! (I was tight in those days - didnt want to even waste the 20p unless i was sure...:):))

Plenty more like this when the money was flooding into these things.

Nowadays so much less casual play - its not really happening.

Had similar on Monopoly (Golden Game Clone) where somebody got a flash and it was their last credit. They collected out their £25 and walked away! I went on it and the top went on for a further £60. Never had anything like that since.

i spent 10/11 hours a day on the palace pier and can't begin to tell you how many profits were just left by the casuals day in day out. made huge money for years then it all started getting a bit more pub based to gamble and in town it's dead reels galore back then, once the jp's got to 70 and being out of the scene it was really unappealing to play at all really, besides the reds of course. now it's more contactless i don't really have cash to lose when drinking which is the only benefit i've found from the changes, it's equally why i'm set against the virtuals soon to be taking contactless in situ etc, that's on way to being the norm and for me and my drunken foolish abandon i fear many morning afters of regret!!

Pretty sure they did chip that, the game was removed and put back on fixed. However if you have a unit supplied by a smaller firm than regal that still has all the other pub games on it that might still be a worker.

I think that's the point - seems to me it knows about it and only gives when it wants to

depending on where you are playing i live up north and most are chipped but the likes of Skegness Blackpool and a few other seaside's mostly unchipped with them been far behind
