MFME v20 Windows 11

I'm on 11 insider preview Pro build version 22000.51, and bad news, MFME doesn't work.   Just crashes.  Hopefully it's a MS thing that'll get fixed in time.

I know there's nothing we can do, so just letting you all know.

v19.8 works fine though.

EDIT Weird, now v20 works, but only after you've loaded v19 first.  Very odd.

Ignore, it works fine.   I think the first time trying it got it confused because it couldn't do the disclaimer check.

@RHM, sort of, but you can have it where you want, so for me it looks like Windows 10.

Try getting it on Windows Update by joining the insider programme.  Seems stable.

Had to install a load of additional windows 10 updates, then eventually was allowed to download and install the latest Beta of Windows 11.

First indications are -

Hmmm, I suppose its OK, at least MFME and Arcade Simulator run fine although the sound is a tad more choppy.  I'm sure this will be fixed in time.  Played a few games too and there semed to be a bit of a lag here and there but nothing too bad.   I'm sure NVIDIA will be issuing updates too which should fix the problem.

If I find any other issues I'll report them here. Gonna have a play around now and see what else is new, but just wanted to say if anyone is worried about MFME not working in Windows 11,  its OK it does :)

I've been really happy to discover the Desert Island Fruits community, and then really sad in equal measure to learn about the passing of Wizard. :(

Am I right in assuming that the situation with MFME is that the source code was private and no one else has access, so this is the end of the line for future updates?

You are correct as his updates went with him but fingers crossed like I have said before we should be ok for a long long time to come. There are other interesting things going on though like @johnparker007 Arcade Simulator which you can find by clicking on his tag or typing in the Searchbox Development Updates.

Thanks for that test!  Yeah I'd expect them to get gaming performance up to snuff with more updates :)

Thanks (and to dad) for the response. I've worked on plenty of closed-source projects in the past and never really given any consideration to what might happen if I died. Not really something we tend to think about.

I saw a video of @johnparker007's Arcade Simulator yesterday, which does look very interesting indeed! (Walking through the virtual arcade provided a big nostalgia hit of arcades of my youth!) I'll have to take a closer look.

fao any win 11 users; each time i've let my lappy update it's had a bug where opening file explorer from the taskbar the screen blinks like a 13 23 30 on ladbrokes roulette doesn't execute the path and file explorer seems inaccessible from the taskbar. can anyone else let me know if the same error occurs for you? if not what build are you on, although it's just a minor thing add the enforced display for applications and windows being rounded i really think it's a exercise of fashion/glamour over function, it adds no real benefit in my experience, bring back xp ffs

Ha!  Your PC does not meet the required standard for Windows 11

Its an I5 Gaming Laptop FFS!!

Fucking Microsoft Numpty's

Just got (like everyone on Windows 10 I guess) a pop up saying they're finally withdrawing support for Windows 10 from October 2025. My Gaming PC too apparently does not meet the required standard

Its an I7 Core 6700k at CPU of 4 Ghz. 16GB RAM

When you look at the minimum requirements though on microsoft website, they want at least 2 cores which is why it fails lol

I run a Dell workstation in the garage, it's a Xeon CPU but architecturally is basically the 6700K. Pretty sure it is a Quad core part, as is yours!

Obviously not as efficient or as good IPC as more recent CPUs, especially those from AMD, but still plenty capable of general computing. Not sure why it has been blacklisted!

It isn't connected to the internet at all though, it's mainly used as a repository for various images for my (dwindling) digital slot machine collection, as well as an oversized MP3 / FLAC player :D

just googled it, and yeah most websites say the i7-6700k is quad core, so maybe windows 11 doesn't like something else thats added on to it? I have an ancient Nvidia GTX980 graphics card in it, maybe thats what's holding it back :D

There's ways around upgrading I believe, something to do with editing an. ini file IIRC, was one of them.

I'll probably just stick with 10 on my laptop.

Microsoft were cheeky saying 10 was the last Windows version. Then release 11 and then make it restricted on who can upgrade, including some people who had new machines.

Surprised no one has started a super lawsuit or whatever it's called, against them.

The message “Your PC doesn’t meet the required standard” for Windows 11 doesn’t mean you can install it, or if you do it won’t work.  I think it’s more likely they’re covering their arse in case there’s some driver issues.

I've been running it for three years now without a problem on my I5 laptop with a GTX 1050.

If you do install Windows 11 on a unsupported model, be prepared for the machine to malfunction.

To be clear, check your model, and if it is not supported, you're stranded on Windows 10.
