About Me

Birthday

Between and

Where did you find out about this site ?

  1. The Interplay has a massive 32" portrait touchscreen and is a lovely, hefty machine. But I never fully completed mine, I'm going to revisit it after this conversion and finish it up. It does work fine - buttons and lamps, touchscreen works, speakers work, it's just I never finished coin entry, and if I revisit it I'd do that, and also relocate the PACdrive and iPAC to better positions But for playing on... lovely big portrait mode means it does feel pretty amazing to play on
  2. I actually had a play with Retroarch I still hate its interface and it sends emulation back about 20 years but it does have a current core for MAME unsure if this handles touchscreen any better as my device is old? https://docs.libretro.com/guides/arcade-getting-started/
  3. First packages of bits have arrived after the bank holiday! Was happy with the Lepy amplifier in the Interplay so have gone with the same here, a 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect to the PC, a reasonable length of 20AWG (I found the 22AWG I used last time to be a bit too thin), some wire labels to keep things identifiable, a PacDrive 'Special' and an iPac. I was going to look at a DuPont crimping kit... but what I think I'm going to do instead, since I can't see me using one much in the future, is I'm going to just butcher the existing connectors and looms, and use some Fago (fake Wago) connectors to link it all up They are due to arrive tomorrow Plenty of hurdles to overcome yet though. I found some PSUs that were capable of powering the monitors. However the bottom, touchscreen monitor is now helpfully only giving me a white screen. Not 'no signal', just a white screen. So possible the interface board has died between the machine stopping working and now? To narrow it down I'll try swapping interface board from the top monitor. Another, simpler (in some regards) option would be to modify the top door to fit a single portrait mode screen. That would make my life a lot easier in terms of layout compatibility, and the fact I'd only need to drive a single video output. I don't require touch screen functionality in this cabinet as it's going to be purely for lo-techs and I can probably just use the bottom gameplay buttons to navigate a simple menu But also would introduce more issues - like how to cut the metalwork to allow the fitment of a large single screen PC shouldn't be any massive problem, I've got a couple of spare SFF units (Dell and HP) that I can happily lob inside. I may well keep the computer in the bottom of the machine this time and just keep the iPac, PacDrive and amplifier on inside rear of the cabinet for simplicity.
  4. Please don't laugh! I'm thinking of using an old ION Icade cabinet (see pic) I would change the buttons for small fruit machine ones with the neccesary boards and use a small touchscreen monitor in portrait around 15". I'm not sure what ration suits mfme better 4:3 or 16:9? I would expect the screen to be slightly wider that the cabinet which will be fine and would have to cut the top and sides slightly. Can someone please advise? Thank you
  5. I have decided 4:3 in portrait is by far the best for fruit machine emulation as the majority of games fit the screen perfectly without huge empty gaps top and bottom. Shame that 4:3 touchscreen monitors as low resolution.
Vectra, don't know where you find the time, but please keep these quality releases coming. I'm usually bored through the xmas and new year period, but these slots keep the fun rolling on my touchscreen. Many thanks again for all you do for the community and for bringing these fruits back to life mate!
  6. Anyone able to try on a pc with a touchscreen does it pick up the touches if the windows one doesn't the android one won't?
  7. Ah right, I see that MAME 0.139 was built in 2010, so that's 6 years before I did that first pass of internal layouts thru MFME2MAME. I have a Galaxy Fold 4 here, I have given it a test on mame4droid v261 - while internal layouts display, the touchscreen taps are not passed through to the layout (this is different from touchscreen video game roms, where input is handled differently). If another coder or the author himself wanted to, code and an option could be added, to allow the touches to also be sent through as 'layout taps', then the flashing start/hold/collect buttons etc would work.
  8. evening all.. just quick question has anyone got touchscreen setup in portrait mode do the slots all work ok and if you got anyone pictures of your setup i would love to see them thanks
  9. I've decided to use a real carcass and have a curved 48" or 50" Samsung 4k telly inside as feel it would give a great sense of depth. I'm on the lookout for a cab in Cornwall so if anyone has possibly a faulty machine? Has anyone else actually done this? I've seen a few with pc monitors but wondered if anyone has actually used a large telly. I would be planning on using the original machines buttons and adding a trackball for buttons up the top as large 4k touchscreen monitors are expensive plus like the curved idea. I would hopefully use the coin mech. Any tips from anyone who has done similar would be great
  10. I might get my MFME cab PC from here when the time comes.... anyone else used this site? Would this site be of use to you? @davep180 https://tier1online.com/ As i don't like the idea of a touchscreen for a cab, i'll probably be using 4 Pacdrives as my design idea has 47 buttons on it! Also with that many I'll probably have to use a IPac 4 instead of an IPac 2. All the best, Gary.
  11. Has anyone got one of these spare? It's a 3M USB cable (part number 7312256). I ordered one from Esupplyline 2 weeks ago on Sunday and I have received or heard nothing from them. So I will be contacting PayPal on Monday for a refund. If anyone has one spare, please PM me, beer tokens will be made available. Many thanks, Dave
  12. Usually! In most cases you press the touchscreen on the buttons and they will work.
  13. Started playing with Touchplay a little more over the weekend, put some videos in for fruitys and works well, have tried Mame also and that works easy enough, having issues getting the rom set i have fully work though, think i need to get the latest version, 0.259, need to have a bit more of a play with pinball tables also and get some working. Also just picked up a 32" touchscreen monitor off ebay, that should be here in time for some playing over the weekend. Ill stick a video up when its all working a little smoother. Will look good in the pubshed when complete!
  14. got myself touchscreen all in one pc for fruit machines and other old games

  15. Does anyone have Alphabet that works with touchscreen ? and shortcuts i have one but it does not work with touch and there is no short cuts on it so when i edit and add shortcuts they still dont work after saving the layout. Alphabet - Barcrest.zip
  16. If we're necro-ing old posts, I've had a quick edit of that layout to fix/improve: - improved alphanumeric display - made buttons clickable, with keyboard shortcuts (should now work with touchscreen) - made main coinslot clickable, with 0 to insert £1 - made reel lamps and reel mask the default, which looks smoother and more realistic Alphabet - Barcrest.zip Have fun
  17. Little bit of progress on this one : 1) Gave the hoppers to Spa (might need the metalwork back in the future if I attempt to do coins in/out with a Universal hopper... or not! Will depend on if and when I go the payout route, and if I use an old Universal hopper or use an Azkoyen...) 2) Have today installed a PACdrive and iPAC to run buttons and lamps - all is working correctly! I was planning on installing the amplifier and getting sound working today, but that'll have to wait 'til tomorrow as I'm going to switch the PC in it for one with a 3.5mm output and put the Alienware Alpha back in the front room. Oh, forgot to mention, I got the touchscreen working fine too, was just a case of finding the manufacturer of the panel and luckily they still make Windows 10 drivers. Using the calibration software in the driver package I was able to calibrate the screen for portrait mode - that's another issue sorted! I'll probably share some pics of my dodgy wiring and stuff tomorrow. A bit knackered now though
  18. I'm a bit busy today but am determined to get this touchscreen working... First thing I'll do is get the Interplay image loaded up and see what drivers it uses and hope there is a Windows 10 version of those drivers. I totally forgot that I'd ordered an amplifier last night too. Just a basic one which runs on RCA and 3.5mm in. Of course I've just checked the Alpha and it doesn't have a 3.5mm output... so I might have to dig out an old DAC or get a little USB powered DAC to use with it. ... Should have just paid more and got an amp and DAC combined (another edit - 16:15 on 12/04/23) I do have some spare old computer bits... I'm wondering if I just sell the Alpha on and use some of my old bits. I've an old AMD (pre-Ryzen) with iGPU, mATX form factor, and an old Xeon 6 core which is ATX. The Alpha is a lovely, cute little machine which I could pretty much velcro in to the case. But it's so tied down. With a normal case I can chop / change and experiment more. Hmmm...
  19. The Interplay doesn't have a 10p hopper, so not sure how much use it would be Back to the Interplay - I've put the PC in and have been playing about in Windows, and I've hit a bit of a snag. The touchscreen only works correctly in landscape mode (which doesn't look right, as obviously this machine had the screen mounted in portrait mode). If I change the display output in Windows to portrait mode, then graphics and things display correctly - but then the touchscreen doesn't function correctly (it acts as though the screen is still in landscape - see attached vid for example). I can't get it to calibrate in Windows when in portrait mode either. This is running on Windows 10 on the Alienware Alpha, so a sort of PC / laptop hybrid of sorts. Wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue with screen orientation and touchscreens before and might have a suggestion.
  20. Ohh No... I have certainly caught the Cab Build Virus (I Blame @Reg :D) In my previous builds I had an old Paragon Pro Quiz machine converted in to a home build and a bar top machine using an old laptop. The issue I had with the other 2 builds was space (and the wife constantly moaning), they were always in the way. Upon browsing eBay like I do periodically to see how much machines are selling for I saw an old none working wall mounted fruit machine, I think it was a German design, I thought that's an idea.. a wall mounted fruit machine in my den under the stairs. After grovelling to the wife for 30 minutes, rubbing her feet and cooking tea for 4 nights in a row I was granted permission to build a wall mountable fruit machine! I have posted a few pics of where I am up to, I have done a design and already have a 22" open frame touchscreen monitor (£80 off ebay with all the wires, not a bad price if you ask me), I have also ordered some I-PAC stuff from www.arcadeworlduk.com which I have used in the past. I also thought about trying a different mech (see pic) less wiring up, I'm going to have a 20p and £1 hopper as I had endless trouble using a 10p hopper (in fact I smashed the last one up in anger). The price was £5 less for each mech when I ordered, dunno why they have jumped in price!?!? Hoppers... I'm not that keen on using the Azkoyen Hoppers again as they're bulky (cost about £60 each) and the last one wasn't reliable at all, so if anyone has used different hoppers please let me know in here, I also need them to have overflow for when they're full (Azkoyen ones don't and I had to make my own which was a pain). The depth of the wall mounted machine I am aiming for 6 inches as I should be able to squeeze everything inside. Attached: Machine Build No. 2 (Bar Top Edition) Comments and Suggestions WELCOME!! 21. Your touchscreen working along side your keyboard looks great
  22. I have been tinkering with this off and on since I last posted, only set up a few games so far but it's working great. Only thing I would change are the microswitches. They are really loud clickers, quite stiff and don't feel quite the same as a real fruit machine. I think I'll order a pack of Cherry switches to replace them. There is a bigger problem though... I today bought an all-in-one touchscreen pc and I now plan on building a full cabinet, albeit a mini one! I couldn't resist, I got it for a great price, its a 24 inch touchscreen and it's old but in excellent condition and importantly it runs MFME just fine. I'll try and upload a video playing it if I can upload it somewhere. So my new plan is to basically start again, this time making a full, slim, mini cabinet (perhaps 3/4 size), and this time I'll make a much smaller control panel with fewer buttons, since I'll have a touch screen for the rest. I'll aim to add a coin mech + hopper if I can get a small coin mech for cheap. I actually already have one of those cheap crappy silver coin mechs, you've probably seen them before bundled with arcade kits, but as for how reliable they are I don't know.
