Barcrests in MFME - behaviour on "taxi" bonuses

Either my memory is completely shot, or something weird is happening under emulation (and possibly only to me).

On almost every Barcrest machine, the 'taxi' bonus often (but not always) behaves in an odd way, in that when it stops going in one direction and reverses, it flips off that last square really quickly.

Does anyone else see this?  It didn't used to be like this on the actual machines, did it?

I'm not sure but there was an issue with the shortcut key for the Mr. Barcrest button on some machines. I think it was something to do with the shortcut B or M. Can't remember exactly.

Interesting! I'll have to look at that.

I feel like on some machines it did jump off... I think Big Brother might have done from when I owned the real machine?

If so it's likely similar machines based on the same code (Psycho Cash Beast, Frenzy) might exhibit the same behaviour? Been a while since I played any in the wild.

This happens in the wild on some games, such as Psycho cash Beast.  If the square you're trying to hit is the one it changes direction on you can miss it quite easily.  You're not wrong OP 👍

My memory is so poor then! It just feels very unfamiliar.

Don't forget... emulation is just that, it emulates the hardware, its not real hardware. Chris was always fixing issues when they arose so this is likely to be one of those such issues. Emulation may be close but cannot be relied on to say 100% it's the same as a real machine would play because of odd issues that may or may not have yet been found.

Sure, and that's really what I was trying to ascertain from starting this thread.  I thought it could be:

a) accurately emulated, and I just completely forgot how these played IRL

b) a general issue with the emulation (real machines weren't like this, and everybody sees it like this)

c) some weirdness with my setup (real machines weren't like this, but only I see it like this)

I don't think a consensus has been reached, seeing as some people are calling it a bug and others are saying it's faithfully recreated from original hardware!  It does seem weirdly specific to be an emulation issue, I don't see why the timing of that particular step (when it changes direction) should be different to any others, in the sense that it's doing something completely different.

I don't ever recall seeing this on a game in the wild. For example, Club Dracula is bad for it in the emulator, but didn't do this in the wild. It would be a terrible bug if they did, really.

As andrew96 said, emulation can be off at times. Chris had a lot of custom code to handle various scenarios that might seem trivial, and occasionally something would naturally get overlooked.
