Coming Soon - Inspired Gaming Machine Emulator...
slotsmagic replied to Reg's topic in Emulator Chat
Not only an Inspired emulator, but the B2 content that I didn't think would ever turn up!! Incredible. Many, many thanks to all involved. -
Gave this a quick play last night, and it's a brilliant effort. I will say that I probably won't continue using it - that's nothing to do with the quality or work put in to it, rather that although it doesn't involve real money, a few minutes into it and my brain wandered to thoughts of arcades. Which is fine, I just remind myself I don't do that anymore, smile and move on. But it does feel a bit silly being a happy non gambler and then subjecting myself to this. Definitely makes time fly by, but also hard to pull myself away from. The games that I get real pleasure from these days, Zelda Randomizer e.t.c., I can pick up and put down at will. But there is something about fruit machine emulation where I struggle to get up and walk away, much like real machines. So I'll probably be limiting myself to the odd dip into this (especially if some empties any similar come out, as I'm definitely curious about how people used to fuck the machines into that state I had no chance on them in the wild ). Many thanks for this @Ross. Given the amount of digital stuff becoming available now the future of FME does look bright

Not having a go but you really don't need McAfee these days. It's a giant con. Windows built in AV is more than sufficient and even that is prone to giving false positives. McAfee e.t.c. are designed to worry you in to paying for them when you really don't need them. They are bundled with PCs as an incentive to the shop / manufacturer to get an unnecessary subscription. Whinge over, might have a mess about with this later but really don't touch FME at the moment, still a brilliant looking bit of FME to play with though!!

Just ordered an Anbernic RG CubeXX for retro emulation

Well, it arrived. It's bonkers for the money in my opinion, the screen is lovely and bright with incredible viewing angles. But it is a bit of a double edged sword for someone like me. I mean it works great out of the box, with a load of ROMs included (which I'm not fussed by, I have my own collection, but is useful for testing). Performance out of the box with stock settings is very good, up to PSX. Anything more than that really is just a curiosity. But then it's a £45 device, and I'm only planning on using it for GB and GBC, among others. It's comfortable for someone with big hands like me. The only real annoyance I've got is sorting out shaders and stuff. Easy to copy games to it over WiFi (it was full of Nintendo ROMs... But no Mario titles ). I guess the thing with shaders is that they are really 'tweaks', and opinions on them vary. I like SNES for example to have a bit of CRT filter, bit of geometry, maybe a bit of glow. Out of the box it looks fine - just like ZSNES or similar back in the day. But then you also find that as you start turning on more graphically intense shaders, the performance takes a hit, the frame rate stops being a solid 50/60FPS. Understandable. Great for £45 but if you want more demanding hardware, or love playing with all the graphical bells and whistles you might want to get a bit more processing power Lovely screen though!! I'm just too old and impatient for all the tinkering. Back in my youth I loved messing about with things and setting them up. These days I find that I can't be arsed and just want them to work the way I want them to out of the box -

Since I have the Switch 1 that I probably ought to use for more recent stuff I probably ought to just order another USB exploit pushing thingy and get that going again. I did used to have the app for doing it on my phone but they would also require me to find a USB-C to USB-C cable, and the app in question The attraction of the CubeXX for me is the screen ratio, especially for Gameboy / Gameboy Colour. I often play the older Gameboy titles. Possibly nostalgia from my primary school days (I had a yellow DMG01 back in the day), possibly because the games are typically simpler Hopefully the CubeXX turns up at some point. Ordered from a UK Warehouse but took an extra day or two for Evri to get it? Rookie mistake - should have ordered the protective case at the time for an extra fiver. Didn't realise it was an option from some sellers. Might just have to keep it in my old thick tablet case. At least that has room for a charger too since these are fussy about charging - you have to use a 5V 1.5A charger, anything else causes issues. Also been researching firmware. The stock firmware seems alright, but I've downloaded the latest build of Knulli (Scarab) for this specific device, built in May this year. It's basically Batocera with Emulation Station pre set up for this device. Seems to be well regarded online. Does somewhat go against my whole 'looking for a simple device that just works' philosophy. I assume that is the thing with the likes of your Retroid - you pay more for convenience too, properly set up to just work correctly out of the box rather than needing community firmware to get the best out of it? -

I found my old PSP in the garage a while back but no sign of the mains lead. Probably ought to source one. I had several over the years, the last one was used for playing Playstation ISOs on the go. Ripped my own games for it and converted them... How I laughed when I cocked up the disc numbering for FF7 so couldn't progress at the end of disc 1. That wasn't a total waste of time Brilliant little machines. My mind was absolutely blown by GTA : Liberty City Stories. It really felt like a PS2 in the palm of your hand, whereas coming from Nintendo, the handhelds always felt a good generation or two before the home console equivalent. The CubeXX I've ordered is a budget handheld, but £45 seems pretty bonkers really given I just sold my old DMG01 Gameboy on eBay for £50. After fees it's a straight swap. Having just had a quick look at that, it looks absolutely bonkers I may be tempted down the line, especially if the switch fails, but for right now I'm sticking to my Mini PC for serious stuff, and just planning on using my (when they actually post it!!!) new little handheld for proper retro stuff -

I've got an old Pi4 here that I'm going to dig out soon - as much as I love my little Mini PC, I think I'd rather have a Pi4 as a dedicated retro machine, then use the mini for Windows. I was actually pondering at one point selling the Mini PC and getting a Windows handheld PC, since a lot of them use the same or similar GPU anyway (Radeon 780M). That would give me a gaming handheld, and a PC all in one. BUT I'm a sucker for individual hardware. I'd rather have 2 or 3 things with each dedicated to one task, even if one device could replace them all I reckon this will be my old hand hand emulator - GBA, GBC, Lynx, as well as SNES and PS1. The Switch will be used for my legit Switch Zelda stuff, and maybe things like PSP emulation and above. Since Nintendo have banned the console, I may well see if I can use it to play *cough* backups too. Why not since they've banned me? I'll have to look into it. The Mini PC will remain my AV unit, and Windows games / apps thingy. -
Bit random but announcing that I bought a cheap new handheld last night, hopefully it'll arrive soon as it's coming from an AliExpress UK warehouse. I already have a Switch but I can't remember where the tool is to force it in to homebrew, can't be bothered ordering another, can't be bothered connecting my phone to it to force it. So I fancy getting a dedicated handheld... as I get older I appreciate things which just 'work' and don't need tinkering with I did find my old Gameboy DMG01 in a drawer, in surprisingly good nick for a 30+ year old device - no dead pixels or owt. I was tempted to pay £40 the stuff to update it to an IPS backlit display, probably add a rechargeable lithium battery kit... Then I realised may as well pay less and get a dedicated handheld that will play all Gameboy stuff on a bigger screen and doesn't need flash carts ---- Gone with the Anbernic RG CubeXX It's got a 4" 1:1 screen, so ideal for consoles and handhelds which used screens close to a square aspect ratio, as well as older arcade titles including vertical. Won't be much use for wide-screen games... but if I want to play modern stuff I can use my little mini PC or take the Switch. I liked the idea of a Gameboy shaped device... but I have large hands so went for a landscape orientation device to hopefully be more comfortable 720x720 Resolution which means it'll hopefully not trigger my eye strain. One of the joys of hitting 40 and already having terrible eyesight is I find it really easy to get eye strain on modern crazy resolution phone screens It claims to be powerful enough for N64 / Dreamcast - apparently it's borderline if that is true - but I have no interest in emulating them on it anyway. I might play some Playstation but that'll be it. Can't grumble at £46 brand new delivered to the door! Will update when it's here Why did I post here? Because I searched for Anbernic and got no results. Maybe me posting might help someone in the future

I barely dabble in FME these days but this is rather exciting @spa Asking as a clueless idiot who used to fill machines for players with knowledge - are any of the games on Video Eclipse'doable'?

I'm not a dev but it would help to know which games as it might be useful for the team to know. As above, examples of errors would be useful to the team, or might help others help you. You could get other games to 'load' in the original release (which has been removed in this release, and no I won't share how to do it) but I'll be upfront with you and say that of the additional ones I tried, and I tried a lot, I got a grand total of one game to work correctly, and that was a community game so nothing amazing. So there is a lot more than just loading games and I can see why the dev team have removed the ability to add your own BPAKs as they would be utterly drowning in posts about why games don't work. Enjoy the anticipation. I used to love, back in the early days of FME, checking Maroney's Web Hovel every day, more than once, to see if a new game had come out. In those days you would download every machine and give it a play, as you didn't have the massive collection you have these days. I reckon if all the T7 and T8 titles dropped at once, people would just fire up their known games and leave the rest alone, or get overwhelmed like I do when I download a complete emulation set. I've said it once before but I'll say it again : As Take That sang... 'just have a little patiennnnce'

Last visited at about 2am. Probably made sense after a few drinks. I won't judge, I used to post some right crap at that time of the morning in my drinking days

I agree to some extent, but also having been an addict I could get totally sucked into games on both MFME, MVFME and even online free-play slots and not be able to walk until I'd had a jackpot or streak, even if it meant staying up later than I'd meant to. Addiction isn't just about the money unfortunately. If it was it would probably be less of a killer. It's one reason I got rid of my collection of coin in/out MFME cabs at home, as well as my other machines. I wasn't even 'winning' money, since I had all the keys. But it felt a bit too real

I remember using Suprnova back in the day, must have been one of the bigger sites before TPB? I just checked and saw it closed 22 years ago. Now I feel very old

I've only got experience of parallel hardware, but the easiest / simplest way for me, playing exclusively modern machines which only had a £1 payout, was to use a 'Special' (power off on startup) PACdrive, sending motor output to an Azkoyen Parallel 12V £1 hopper, powered by the 12V of a normal PC power supply. No need for relays or anything like that, and worked absolutely perfectly for me. Presumably adding a second (or even third) parallel hopper for handling say 10p and 20p payout, if you played older machines, wouldn't be too hard, as you could could presumably use the same 'special' PACdrive to send motor signal to all three hoppers. You then use an iPAC (other keyboard encoders may work, but I used iPAC as they were known working) to receive the signal from the hopper opto sensor to confirm coin has been paid out. I'm sure others have managed to pay out using all kinds of fancy variations, possibly even tubes and solenoids, but mine was the simplest option. As for coin entry - parallel coin validator if you want to accept all of the currency you want and divert it, or you could use say a simple Chinese coin comparator if you only planned on ever using a single denomination of coin. I've no experience of that though, I've always used updated UK multi coin validators from Money Controls, MARS, Cashflow e.t.c. Since you appear to be non-UK based there could well be other hurdles to overcome which aren't an issue for us UK members playing UK slots and fruits.

While I do get your general idea - there isn't a dedicated download / setup thread like there is with MFME - part of the reason is probably that I feel we are still very much in the 'open beta' testing phase, it is a work in progress and is going to need additional tinkering and the situation / games may change pretty frequently. As the app progresses it may well be that it does things which currently require setting up, to be done automatically for example, via an installer package. But as for the attitude shown in your post, not sure if you meant it or not, but you may find people removing their offers of help

Plenty of us who have owned T7s will attest to the fact that from a fresh install / reset state, it could be quite easy to get a max bank which forced a handpay Some games were pigs from reset, some were 'happy' despite being random. I still maintain that it makes sense for manufacturers to release games, even random ones, in a 'happy' state. Why not? The player goes on, wins quickly, assumes it is a good game that will play like that normally. Could also snare a new addict. Worth the short term hit on payout when over the life of the machine it would be cancelled out anyway.

I was wondering about this having stumbled across a forum where someone was playing MFME on a Linux distro on a Raspberry Pi and it seemed to run a lot better than I expected!
-
We have a massive range of games available, but at the moment it looks like games need individual attention to get them running in MVFME. Patience

Had an absolute mare last night on Iron Man, spent longer playing than I would have liked, probably around £1000 down for £1500 in (by £1500 in, I mean £1500 of notes inserted, but obviously with small wins being paid, more than that in terms of total wagered) Fired it up today, £100 of notes in for £1000 out. Like playing a totally different machine. Bloody things, glad it's not real money

I've not had AV for years. Probably since Windows XP. Assuming you are savvy, having an extra AV (Windows has it's own built in) just becomes a waste of system resources. When I was into building PCs and squeezing every last drop of performance, and was confident I was downloading trustworthy files, it was fine.
-
That's a false positive as far as I can tell. No issues to note here. I think part of the problem is probably the emulator (as is the real T7 machine) trying to communicate over a network, possibly to see if machines are linked. That would be suspicious for any app which didn't need network access. Mind you that's just a guess on my part!!
-
It's a tricky one. For me personally, I've had enough experience to be 99.9% confident that those are false positives. Microsoft is overly eager when it comes to stopping people from running anything that isn't a common app. Can't blame them as some people will open anything and everything At the same time I've enough confidence in the authors, and experience of false positives to feel safe downloading and running this
