MPU3 club machine 'gamble block'

Just been having a play with an idea to make the MPU3 'clubbers' a bit more exciting.  Here I've done a couple of ROM hacks to make the reel spins much faster, and also the 'skill stops' (I'm sure they are actually fixed predetermined stops lol) much faster.

At around 0:50 in the video, I have a gamble, and you can see it going up on the alpha display, when I hit Double... until I get to £4.80.  At that point the gamble sequence continues, but I no longer have the flashing start button to continue gambling, so I have to collect some of the win.

Is this the infamous 'Gamble block' people have mentioned to me before?  Apparently there were these blocks to stop you gambling up to say £100... but also in early ROMs that are not dumped, these blocks didn't exist, and were only introduced later.

So yeah, is this definitely the 'gamble block'?  I may try to figure out how to remove it if so...

Sorry I can't help you on your answer, BUT weirdly I was playing an MPS2 clubber last night - Pyramid (10p/£100 which is hard locked at 73%!)

Anyways I gambled a single 20p cherry win to £25.80 I think it was or £26.80 - but then I'm  certain it didn't  offer me a chance to gamble again and had to collect.  This was fairly close from a RAM rest too, so it might be possible to see if it does it or something similar again. I'm wondering because there's a 4x gamble you can win, maybe thats why it didn't  offer it - but then why would it not just pay the £100 max and bin off the extra?

Will give it another try when I've got a bit of time and I'll let you know if it does it again

Interesting :)  Unfortunately I'm just working on MPU3/4 at the mo, since I've got techniques to fix their checksums after hacking them (otherwise the hacks are kinda useless as they won't boot).  Just generally tinkering! :)

This one - is definitely cos the 4x goes past the £100 JP - Lots of clubbers do this - in your case - you would have only had to collect a quid or so and could have happily gambled the rest.

Even up to the £1000 clubbers this was a thing.... JPM's £1000 five alive (think thats its name) which is emulated here does it - and its clear its a JP gamble anyway cos it keeps telling you the next number.

Even the £4.80 AWP's do it - the barcest Super Blackjack and its ilk.

I got asked about this a while back on the Mecca, from a few different owners of these machines, e.g:

"it has a gamble block at £10 with a double/nothing style gamble .its pretty frustrating at times and I'm certain that allowing the gamble upto the £100 jp would make it a far better machine."

I am only on MPU3/4 with this right now though (as I can fix the checksum to make work on real machines etc), just curious if these games can be made more fun with a little rom patcheroo or two... :)

There are clubbers that didn’t have a gamble block but then received updated software to implement a gamble block.  I imagine to balance gameplay, pros targeted clubbers and on lots of Barcrest club machines I know of, you could just force out the gamble to the jackpot.  I wasn’t a big club player personally so I can’t really comment on other manufacturers.

Stake Up is actually a very early MPU4 game I believe (not MPU3). But anyway, yes, early Barcrest clubbers would not permit gambling past £10 on 10p play or £5 on 5p play (unlike similar vintage BFMs or JPMs).

IIRC there is a dipswitch setting on MPU3 roulette wheel gamble games which doubles the gamble limit (£20 on 10p and £10 on 5p).
