  1. I like to see the emulator used in different ways. Some of my mates, say what's the point, you can't win or lose money. But I always say, that a lot of machines are like old video games, where they are just fun to play particularly for the £4-£8 era. Even some of the machines from the £25 era, can still offer multiple way of getting a jackpot and it's fun, trying to set up Nudge to the Nearest Win, or Tutti Frutti in red mode, to give a jackpot. I quite often, also give myself an imaginary limited balance to play and either play the machine, as I would taking wins here or there and see if I end up with a profit. Or seeing if I can get a jackpot before the money runs out. Last time I played MPU4 Take Two on 20p £4.80 jackpot and played until I forced it to give either the jackpot or a Money Maker £2.40 which repeated. I couldn't believe I was £30 in, before it finally gave me the Money Maker which repeated. So £25 down on a £4.80 machine.
  2. Yes it's very dangerous unless you put strict limits in place and find sites that if you want to change the limit upwards you need to wait a few days or a week before it comes into effect. A few times I've upped mine, either through my choice to have a bit of a bigger gamble or because I'm doing our syndicate betting on Cheltenham Races. I soon reduce it back, because I feel it could very easily get out of hand. Or while not rabidly out of hand, once or twice, I've gambled more than I intended to. The trouble is gambling can be fun and thrilling, but when you hit a bad run, it really hurts. I do watch some of Degsys video of real gambling and some other youtubers video, ok they do seems to be a bit jammy quite often and of course everything is rosey in the garden. But when there not winning, you can hear in their voice and the way they speak, exactly what most gamblers think. It's that what an utter waste of money and time, playing these slots for zero entertainment is. Why the fuck do I still keep giving these vulture companies my time and money. Thankfully I either have that attitude before I play, so don't, or after 10-15 of utter boredom, stop playing and think, nah not wasting my time and money. That even goes when I'm in Vegas, not doing well, just go to the bar or a walk.
  3. Lowering the tone of the thread/place, but there were a couple of controversial ones as well, which I only visited out of curiosity, once or maybe twice. Rate My *** .com, showing toilet bowls let's say and the one which showed, murder scenes and accident scene pictures, *ot*en.com Hope I haven't offended anyone, but those two were well known sites in the late 90's. No intention of looking to see if they still exist, because they were disgusting.
  4. I'm just grateful, that largely from 2009, I stopped playing online and offline, to the extent on being an addict. I still occasionally play online and I do go to land based casinos a few times a year, but nothing major. It's all very restricted by either limits I have in place or limits I impose on myself, when offline. Still hoping to go to Vegas in October though, but looking doubtful, I'll probably be 52, before I get to celebrate my 50th in Vegas, as was the intention last year.
  5. Another good yarn to listen to. Every one of them, makes me think, that while I was addicted and eventually in a lot debt, I could have been in a much worse off situation. It's very true, with family/friends, it's bad enough. But without them, it's even worse. It's a very lonely addiction, because it's just you and the machine. While I didn't do the student thing, I went straight to work at a station, I still managed to play them, when I should have been working. At first, being late back from breaks or saying I'm off to the toilet and then break and using that extra 5/10 minutes before to gamble. Things progressed even worse, when still at the same station, I got a job, involving roaming around the station to stick up posters/passenger charter figures and fill leaflet racks etc...I'd then disappear off site for an hour or more, up in the arcades. I'd occasionally get asked where have you been and I'd always make a flimsy excuse, but definitely several people knew what I was doing. I was always the one in the group in the pub, who would be playing the machine, while everyone else was chatting/laughing. So people knew I was hooked (sounds better then addicted lol) on playing machines. Never shit myself, during my addicted period though lol. That bit at the end did make me chuckle, played it back several times and still giggle now when writing this.
  6. TBH, I not an expert of things like checkboxes, I was only going by what has worked for some machines, I think normally Scorpion 4 AWP's. At the time of posting, I was on my mobile, away from the emulator, so it was more a general post. But I know the hopper sounds playing is a one for all fix. Most volumes for Scorpion 4 games, are adjusted the same way and Ram error messages clear on second load. So couldn't go wrong on that score lol. I've had a look at the clubbers and tried refilling them and a few other bits and pieces, but so far many do say refill cash as you say. I don't even have Jumping Jack Flash, Gold Digger and Rich Geezer as not wishing to diss them, but they are low res layouts.
  7. Changing the machines volume depends on the technology of the machine and sometimes also the manufacturer of the machine. Press + and - on the keyboard (depending on device you may need to press Cntl or alt with - and +) with any layout loaded will turn up and down the sound in the emulator but may not be loud enough still, if the machine is set to very low sound. On most Scorpion 4 tech machines after loading the machine, press F9 to show the doors and meter bars if they are not showing. Then tick the S door box. Once the machine shows read meters, press the test box (near the S door box) and then use the buttons flashing (not start) to scroll through until you find volume. Then press start and you should be able to turn the volume up and down using the flashing buttons normally cancel and hold 1 button. Then press start to come out of the volume control, then untick the S door and let the machine initialise again. Also don't forget to see if the volume for MFME is low, by opening the volume controls by the clock on the windows taskbar. To stop the constant payout sounds, press Cntl E to enter edit mode, then click on the configuration tab. Remove the ticks from hopper 1 and 2. Close the configuration tab. Now press Cntl E to come out of edit mode. You can then either reload the machine by clicking file and selecting it and save changes. Or you can press Cntl R to just reload the machine (simulated switching the machine off and back on again). Then when you finish playing and close the layout save the changes. The refill message is irrelevant, but if you really want to try to get rid of it, try creating a checkbox 32 and see if it goes away. To do that again press Cntl E for edit mode. Right click on a blank part of the layout I. E not on a lamp or button, and from the menu choose buttons then choose checkbox. Right click on the checkbox and choose properties and number it on left hand side of the properties screen 32 and tick it on the right hand side of that screen, you can also change the 0 in the bottom left of the screen to 32. Close the properties box. Come out of edit mode (Cntl E) and reload the layout saving changes when asked. The ram message may go away by itself the second time you load a layout. Also make sure the layout isn't in read only mode which it would say in the title bar after loading the layout, next to the name.
  8. I got an email from svp, the other day and it got me thinking about sites I used numerous times in the early days of the net, which I either haven't used for 10 plus years or were big well known sites, which have now gone. I don't think looking at the address svp is the original site, which I'd buy hundreds of blank dvds and sleeves etc, but haven't used for numerous years. Then there's play.com, a dvd/cd buyers heaven, but now no longer, having changed in to a marketplace before closing down altogether. Anyone else got any popular websites in mind from the early days of the web, that literally everyone raved about and used, but have since gone out of business or changed to a different format.
  9. Thankfully we do have some who are 100% helpful and we have benefitted from quite a few resources. I do think some people, don't have any interest in emulation. Sometimes there are even conversations about machines and how they'd love to play them again and you think, it's been emulated perfectly for years, so you can. Yes it's not the physical machine, but it plays 100% the same. Then some who do like emulation, think, that a DX in particular, of a machine, will either devalue their machine or even make them want to sell it. We do suddenly see a lot of machines on Ebay, after they have got a DX. I think emulation in DX form, has the best chance, of preserving a machine, in a playable state.
  10. Version 1.0.0

    45 downloads

Pizza The Action £15 Jackpot, 25p Play, 82% Payout on EPOCH tech. KEYS: ` = Cancel 1 = Hold 1, 2/H = Hold 2/Hi, 3/L = Hold 3/Lo, C = Collect, E = Exchange, SPACE = Start B = Collect Bonus 0 = Insert £1 The layout has incomplete sounds. Wizard (RIP) for the immortal MFME and for making a Pie Lamp. The rom provider/s. Vecs for the reel symbols from Pounds Of The Baskervilles. Reggett and Infection for providing some pictures to go by. Maygay Machines for the machine and leaving the FME scene alone.
  11. Watch Degsys videos, but basically spinning 1's and 12's in during normal spinning, indicates the machine is in a paying out mood.
  12. Looks like it was originally a £6 jackpot machine as well, going by the £3 repeater and the inserted card look of the £8 in the top right of the machine.
  13. Never saw one of these in the wild.
  14. Well fingers crossed it may work now and just wasn't mentioned in update notes. It's a machine that seems to be extremely popular, particularly with collectors.
  15. Wizard said back in November 2016 at The Mecca "Deal em won't work I think the video side is proprietary" https://www.fruitemu.co.uk/ib/index.php?app=forums&module=forums&controller=topic&id=18277&tab=comments#comment-289367 I don't remember any other discussions to suggest this has changed.
  16. I don't believe it's emulatable in MFME. Strangely I was look around for card games in MAME yesterday and saw pictures of this. Perhaps someone can answer my question, I'm sure it's possibly even an earlier version of this machine. I'm after a machine which was either 5p or 10p a go. It was made in the early 80s.I'm sure it was just a simple hi lo on cards game. I think you had to guess hi lo correctly for 5 cards. and I think you got a prize for getting at least 3 cards. It was very basic graphics on a black screen background and each suit was ranked as well as cards. I remember it would be really dirty and give you a king of clubs go lower and come up with a king of spades and lose. Sometimes it would even do a king of clubs go lower King of hearts, go lower king of diamonds and again that would be a lose.
  17. In the second picture, it looks like, you have a version for the JPEMU emulator, as those files are for that emulator. I wonder if you have versions for both emulators and you simply trying to load in the wrong file.
  18. Great video. @Big J you're right (WTF) only joking, it's definitely not always the machine that counts, it's that it preserved hopefully forever and in a graphically format, so people in the future can see what it looked liked as well as sounds. I know Chop, also is a great believer in that also. Jolly Joker as I said before holds a special memory for me, being the first machine where I learnt (well told) not to hold after nudges for a win. That means it takes me back to the exact location, which bring back memories of my old place of work and the people. The fact it's not my cup of tea or that great to play, doesn't matter to me. Also I remember only even playing it, because the hi-tech in the buffet, wasn't working or switched on. As for the others featured, I agree, that these Barcrest lo-techs, were definitely bettered by others like PCP and Project. Little Devil, looks absolutely poop in that cabinet and it's clunky cheap looks, but gameplay wise, it knocks spots off the Barcrests. Sudden Impact, hmm, I seemed to remember really liking it back in the day, but it's not as good as I remembered. Made me laugh, when you said that the step up and down feature, wasn't worth taking and the next time you had a feature chance, the 3 red 7's were in view on the same line below the reels, to get a jackpot off the feature. Manhattan Skylines, definitely in my top 10 fruities, probably top 5. Just wished I'd have utilised the bank score more back in the day. But then I only ever got to play it in one pub and the beer goggles would have been on, a lot of the time. Anyone else, noticed you tend to down your drink faster when playing a machine
  19. Not even watched it yet, but giving it an awesome, as it contains Manhattan Skylines.
  20. Firstly V6.1 is the last version you can use on Windows 7. https://www.desertislandfruits.com/forum/index.php?/files/category/71-legacy-releases/ On v5.1 and v6.1, if you go to the file, preferences screen, you'll see a shrink to fit option, tick that and it will resize to your screen size. Also if you use V6.1, it will give you more machines available, as well, many available only in the Dxcellent section. You'll find them, attached at the bottom in the first posts on the release and re-release threads. Any thread started before 2019, should contain a layout that works on v6.1 https://www.desertislandfruits.com/forum/index.php?/forum/26-dxcellent/ As for fonts, unless I'm missing something, on all versions it will check fonts. It's useful to know what fonts are missing, if things aren't displaying correctly on layouts, but I do agree, it would have been a good option for it not to do that by default, particularly as sometime I have the font it says is missing, but I think there must be differences between fonts in Windows version.

    Cup Final

The samples run far too fast on v20.1. Not sure if this has been mentioned and can be fixed?
  22. I'd like to see something that looks like a rubber keyed 48k Spectrum, but in mini form. At the moment, there seems either be a full sized lookalike and these weird looking mini consoles, that don't really even look like a Spectrum. Look at the C64 mini, it looks like the real thing in mini form, largely because the keyboard is represented, even though it's not useable. Surely it's not difficult, to produce a Spectrum equivalent, with a joystick.
  23. Glad to see you are getting on in work. I suppose we should be grateful for a job in the current times, but my word I can't wait to retire and get up late and do what I want all day, plenty of games, fme, emulation, youtube, por, err etc...to fill my days. A lot of the old school FME'r, must be approaching retirement or have retired.
  24. Told the story before but in an arcade with some girl and Eastenders was behind us. In attract mode it would play samples. Pat Butcher said "got the time darling" Made her jump out of her skin. In fact Pats "oh Frank 'll kill me" is a funny sample during the feature.
  25. I thought I had replied to you on your review of Goldrun, but my post appears to have disappeared. Anyway, you don't have to, but if you don't support the site, you will have limited downloads, as per this https://www.desertislandfruits.com/forum/index.php?/topic/4898-faq/ If you wish to support the site, you can do so via this page https://www.desertislandfruits.com/forum/index.php?/portal/ You will see the support this site on the right hand side. A user who has created a layout, may of course still send you it for free if they wish, even if you don't support the site.
