  1. Yeah, that’s what I understood. Pre-bonus, being awarded a bonus and total prize were random parameters. The actual in-bonus events thereafter are not random.
  2. It could be, but remember that “randomness” and “repeatable behaviour” are 2 different things. The outcome of an individual credit can be completely random, but the actual visible events aren’t. An example is the fuss over Jammin Jars when 2 streamers got identical bonus games. Getting the bonus game was random, as was how much it paid, but the actual events of the bonus game were predetermined and following a script. It’s in human nature to look for patterns everywhere, which forms the illusion of compensation. The vast majority of these games will be completely random, simply because there is no need to compensate them on the sly.
  3. This is part of the code from Red's Red-X that controls the alpha display. That's one of the early ones I remember it from.
  4. Good find. Some of the early Red games even credited eJay on the machine, somewhere around the area where the usual 18+ and disclaimer info was placed. I remember a Red machine with a Western theme that had an eJay badge on it. I'd completely forgotten about this until now.
  5. Great post, and I love the touch of donating to a charity Chris would have cared about. An excellent way to show the community's respects. I'll pop something extra in the donations pot for this year, knowing that it will be used in this way. Hopefully others will chuck in whatever they can afford, too. RIP Chris, you genius. Massive respect.
  6. Volcano will randomly light up the BWB button during the feature. If you press it, you go invincible. There's nothing you have to collect or do in order for it to happen.
  7. Interesting. This is probably an overspill pot, and only gets released once both current and overspill pot are maxed out. Otherwise the overspill money probably just gets transferred elsewhere once current pot is depleted. I think this is why brute forcing many Bellfruits was a bad idea. A lot of the money just got squirreled away and paid out much, much later.
  8. Knocking back invincible boards has been a common trick down the years. It's something a programmer might not expect, and therefore not adequately protect the machine from. Lotta Luck and its clones are well known examples. Another one I can remember is Space Invaders by Crystal - flat profile normally, but knock back a few invincible boards and it can go on a 4 jackpot run.
  9. Thanks for the video. I agree with your comments around compensation. Ultimately I think they undid themselves with their various oversights, and casual players were killed off. Let's face it, for how long would anyone keep playing games that have high cost and low entertainment value? I suspect programmer salaries/benefits in the fruit machine industry weren't great. Talented staff would probably move on to better things pretty quickly, with only inexperience/incompetence left behind to make the next games.
  10. Great stuff @Chopaholic. You've captured nicely how much of a twat it can be! You might not get a sniff for ages, then 2 or 3 big wins can come in quick succession. You could have done a couple of things differently, but to be honest it didn't matter in the end. £100 is definitely the rarest of the 4. You had a couple of exchanges where it was the best option, but don't think you actually missed a genuine opportunity to win it. An interesting emptier, and it's good to see another piece of history preserved. Thanks for the video!
  11. Wasn't the full shilling. I think the signs were there for all to see!
  12. Yeah reel blasts are pretty progressive on this one. Even with 9 blasts, a JP in view, and the machine gagging for it, it'll usually hold on until the last blast to give you JP. Another option is to take 7 Stepper for £2.
  13. Thanks for the video, entertaining stuff. Sonic would be another good one, once Pook releases his updated version. Not as in-depth a game as Snakes & Ladders, but still a classic that deserves a run out.
  14. Final Fantasy 7's music always stands out for me. So much effort went into every aspect of that game. Brilliance!
  15. Yeah nice win. You basically got it up to a 32x multiplier, and I imagine the odds of that are very low indeed. It can probably be worked out with a bit of effort and if they're transparent with the various probabilities, but it should be far less than 1% of Pachinko games.

The early chips of The Addams Family used a voice sample of Lurch when at a feature exchange. This got removed and replaced with a different sound on later versions. I always wondered if maybe Ted Cassidy's voice wasn't part of the license Barcrest had and got them into hot water. The rest of the voice samples seemed to stay as they were.
  17. QPS/Mazooma usually created their own sounds from scratch. The samples on Cashraker definitely sound homemade to me. Much the same with Red as well.
  18. I very much suspect you're a hoarder! No doubt your family despairs of you
  19. No it's not just you I'm always curious about the samples as well. There are so many examples. Maygay did it a lot in the era of Coronation Street and the like. Wild Zone uses an old Top of the Pops tune, EastEnders had The Stranglers, James Bond sampled Duran Duran etc. The Simpsons and the film Jungle Book have also been plundered for samples down the years. Barcrest's Buccaneer has voice samples from King Size Homer. Maygay's Cash Is King took loads from Jungle Book.
  20. I've not watched the video yet, but I assume it's this trick. If you are given a 3rd hold, you can change what you are holding to a different matching pair. The easiest example works on Spyker the Biker. If you get 3rd hold on the overlaid pig symbols, but there is at the same time 2 matching fruit, you can switch to the 2 matching fruit and it will spin the 3rd fruit in. There are setups for £4 and £6 on Spyker. With many of the JPMs of the time, this same trick worked. In fact, it worked when you got 3rd hold on 2 non-matching reels! You just switched to the matching pair for the 3rd hold and in it came. It worked on Impulse and Red Alert, until they pretty much removed it in the lackluster V5 chip.

This is a re-release of a very old classic from 10 years ago. The reason for the re-release is that the correct Sound ROMs have now been found. The layout originally used Heaven & Hell's sounds and, well, they were more hellish than heavenly to be quite honest. It's an OK game, nothing special really and is a clone of numerous BWB games of the time. There are empty ROMs for this game, although the set used here is a chipped set. I have found alternate ROM sets but have trouble getting them to load properly in MFME. I suspect I am missing something simple. If anyone has experience with BWB ROMs, please get in touch and we might just find the empty set. @infection This machine could potentially now become a DX. Do we have any decent images of this game, please?
  22. C means it's a Classic - the "basic" type you mentioned. D is for DX - the proper graphics. The number just means there are multiple layouts of that type in the folder - pick the one you like best.
  23. Dammit - I thought I'd seen a post some time ago saying there was a quick way to fix this issue, but couldn't track it down. I did it the long way, but in any case we now have a fixed version of Brainwaves, and know the quick way to fix other layouts.
