  1. Firstly, I'd love to see FME get more publicity and hopefully reap the benefits of seeing new members, particularly those who stick around, participate and perhaps even have something to offer the scene. But can I play devil's whatsit and say, is there any potential threat to FME, if it is publicized in such a way. I would hope that when submitted, the magazine producers, will have suitable knowledge as to what would likely cause trouble and ask for a rewrite. Using the word roms for instance, isn't probably necessary for anyone who knows about emulation, but could cause issue.
  2. Another enjoyable video. I don't normally try skill stops on the emulator, unless they can be slowed down. I think the keyboard and definitely the mouse, is inferior when trying to achieve them. The Scorpion 1 machine Chain Attraction was my most successful as a player, used to impress my late nan with my skills and end up with scraped knuckles as the cabinet used to be quite sharp and pointed underneath the small buttons. Not a machine, I remember playing much. I was all posed to post that you forgot to mention the different wording on the alpha and then you mentioned it right at the end lol.
  3. Interesting, Crash was a must for most Spectrum fans back in the day. I was more of a Your Sinclair man myself, then moved on to Zzap when I got my C64 in about 1985. Nice to see that people are still interested in keeping these things going and thankfully all these magazines are well preserved online, if people fancy a nostalgia trip.
  4. Just wondering if any of you guys have also stumbled across the excellent and very user friendly Dreamcast emulator called Redream. The free version is brilliant in it's own right, but the HD results on the $5 version are excellent. I don't really agree with paying for an emulator, but in the end it's so good an emulator, I thought instead of cutting my nose off to spite my face, I would. Check out Simply Austin's video about it. https://redream.io/
  5. Hated this machine. So true back in the very early days of FME, I'd play a very poor 800x600 classic layout (not that I'm saying the layouts shown in the video are poor) of a terrible machine for hours. After all It was a real fruit machine emulated, which was still way better than playing a simulation. Nowadays we are totally spoilt, I haven't put more than a fiver through dozens of layouts. As for the sounds well I must say he's got a big one said in that bad French accent, still got a snigger from me after all these years. Even writing it I'm chuckling.

    Las Vegas

Freemont Street is a definite must and has you'll get to see the El Cortez, I believe the oldest casino resort still standing. The old railway station building with naturally a casino in them, also worth a visit. The Silver and Gold pawn shop, is ok, very small compared to what it looks like on the TV, but again people are friendly and you can get pictures/videos in and outside, without it being an issue or paying. The couple of times I've been, we've got the monorail up to near The Stratrosphere, which has stunning views, then got a cab to the pawn shop, then walked down to Freemont Street. Another casino worth visiting for nostalgia is Circus Circus, where if you like bond films, you can still see the structures for the old circus. Also the side games are still present, included the water balloons, where Tiffany Case, wins the toy in Diamonds are Forever and Q plays the slots.

    Las Vegas

I love Vegas, years ago I dared not to go but now as an ex addict, I've no issue. Will be my 3rd time in 4 years, when I go in October. Already planning going again in 2019 with people who haven't been before and hopefully God willing having my 50th birthday celebration in 2020 as a lads only trip, although may not be around my actual birthday. My tip for money saving would be have your alcohol drinks from the North End of the strip at Hurrahs and casinos around them not at the Luxor, MGM Grand end. Or in the old town (freemont Street) which is an essential visit Imo, particularly if you like the James Bond films that were shot there. Of course if you are gambling even tiny stakes, drinks are free from the waitresses who circulate the casino floors. I say free but if you choose to tip them a dollar a drink they'll be back around much quicker. We normally give them $5 per three drinks. Not bad for 3 spirits with a mixer. Definitely still a lot cheaper than the bar. I only play Slots, but my mates play blackjack and poker etc, everyone is super friendly and helpful at the tables in general, so no need to be nervous. Again you'll probably find the older casinos like Hurrahs will offer lower stakes but they are still massive casinos compared to what we have over here. I have to say though when you go to Vegas, it's a long way to go and perhaps a once in a lifetime holiday, so takes as much as you can afford to spend and lose. But be disciplined we leave our hotel with our daily gambling stake and no cards. We normally gamble only of an evening. It's so vast that if you gamble away from your hotel it's a fair walk back to your room to be going back to get cards or more money, so any urges to gamble more don't involve a quick trip back and give time to think do I really want to do this.
  8. I'm working nearly everyday so getting pretty knackered, still extra monies for my Vegas trip at the end of October.
  9. I guess it says pyramid because it is still a pyramid or because Electrocoin couldn't be bothered or forgot to change it. Welcome to the tomb or crypt perhaps would have been a good alternatives.
  10. Plus as pointed out in the video, there are differences in the machines, such as nudge squares on the feature board, so definitely Sphinx running on the DX.
  11. Very good, shows how brutal these low jackpot machines could be. I often think back and think, how the hell could I have lost £300 - £500 a month on the £4.00 - £8.00 jackpot era machines. But this show how easy it was be to be £100 + down after a 3 or 4 hour session on the wrong machines. Living in London and on my monthly wage of between £500 - £900 back in 1988 - 1995, that was a lot of money.
  12. Good video. I can honestly say I don't remember playing an Empire machine of this era. Even later high jackpot machines I can't remember playing either. My first go on them was on the emulator. Of course Empire were very much involved at the beginning of FME (I'm sure your next FME history video will mention them), so some of the best Dx's early on where Empire machines. Also I remember the Crazy Capers DX was given to certain members only (possibly after you made a donation or something). Their history in FME is certainly more interesting and appreciated than their machines.
  13. I must say most of social posts are weird, almost like something out of the Viz letter page. Not sure if they are intending just to wind people up (remember the early RHM) or they really just don't realise what they are doing. In most cases, they just about don't step over the line, of being disruptive enough, to end up being kicked off forums. FME has picked up a few similar members since v5.0. It's strange though, because some threads started up by these type of members, end up with long term members talking and useful information gleaned or unknown about resources being highlighted.
  14. All working on Sky internet. Thanks Pete, seems to be running faster as well.
  15. Another message on Facebook, for those of you not on Facebook it says "The site is currently down due to a server move. We expect it to be back up this evening."
  16. Someone on The Mecca said you have to search for the mpu Mecca forums on Google and click the link. In my case I never ever got redirected to the radio site when it was down, it just went to the down for maintenance message page. I think it depends on isp's and when DNS servers are updated. I remember once back in the Fruit Forums heydays, some people couldn't access the site for a week or more after a similar upgrade. Completely irrelevant but I can't remember the persons name now (they were into manga iirc) but they never could get back on and just disappeared from the forums altogether.
  17. I like the enhancements it bring though, like @ tags and notifications for quotes etc.... I don't read every post and sometimes I've forgotten I ever posted to something, so it's good for seeing someone quoted you from months or even years ago.
  18. Just did the recover sucessfully. It looks like DIF lol.
  19. Me too, got an email to say about it, but will wait until Pete or someone posts again to say, everything is good.
  20. He did say it could be down for a couple of days, but it does appear to be taking longer than thought. Yesterday on Facebook, the fan page said "Hello Everyone The Mpu Mecca Online Forum Will Be Back Online Soon. They Have Been Moving Too A New Server . HopeFully It Will Sort The Issue Some People Have Signing Up Wanting To Look And Enjoy What The Mpu mecca Forum Is About. Happy Slotting Slotters"
  21. It's certainly been asked for quite a few times. I'm pretty sure I've seen some decent images of this. Once The Mecca reopens it could well be something to look for or request over there. Surely someone over there must own one you would think.
  22. I think the Weatherspoons pubs will have a lot to do with when AWP's die out in pubs in the UK. Nearly every Weatherspoons I go into, including the one I went into Saturday, have 2-5 machines, depending on the size of the pub. The only difference I see, is that sometimes one of the AWP's has been replaced by a random (IIRC) £100 multi video slot unit. I did note however, in the 90 minutes we were in the pub, the only machine I saw being played, was the multi video slot.
  23. Here's another emulated one. I see under some techs, there is an option in configuration for prize payout. I guess @Wizard as ever is the best person to comment on this sort of thing, but if it comes out of some sort of payout tube, then perhaps it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
  24. Watched the video, but I haven't read through the comments on this thread, because it's the first time I've looked at it. Obviously a lot of us know from knowing Degsy online from the early 2000's, how even after an attempted suicide, it's still wasn't rock bottom enough for an addiction to be broken. Many people say, you'll only quit, when you have absolutely hit rock bottom, but that isn't strictly true. You can't get any more rock bottom, than attempting suicide. Another thing people say is, a life event such as having a child was their wake up call. But then forums such as gamcare are full of people in broken marriages, with young children or even in a relationship, just having had a child, who are still addicted. I really don't think there is an all in one solution for how to break an addiction, it either happens or it doesn't.
