    Hi Loofy,

This probably doesn't help at all but it does seem to depend on the machine being emulated. I have a rather high end PC and it copes with 99% of fruit machines. There are, however, a couple of fruitees which don't cope well - it seems to be related to those with lots of visual effects using blended lamps but I haven't explored it properly to be certain of this.

Are you experiencing problems at the moment?

    S

You are correct I have an I9 Extreme processor, 32GB Ram and a 3800GTX.

For me it's pretty much just attract sequences that run slower, mainly the sweeping lamp part of the sequence, where tons of lamps are present and particularly blended lamps.

It also largely depends on the size of the layout. MFME reduces the size to desktop resolution, if you have the option set, but if you go into edit mode, you'll see some layouts are in excess of 4K resolution.

It's a bit like, a video game, where shadows and shaders are a real drain on even the most powerful systems at high resolutions.

Eventually everyone will be using a powerful enough PC with 16K res or higher screens lol.

  2. There's no way, that isn't a bug in the code.

Reminds me of years back, when I remember someone saying that the M1a/b version of Club Pink Panther, could never be hi-lo gambled out for a jackpot, as the code wouldn't allow it. So it could run at virtually 0% pay out if that's all the player did.

  3. An update.

After pressing enter, the machine appears as though it's going to boot up, like the reels move slightly and the alpha light. EDIT....The alpha changes to all ????????? and the 7 segs show 888

    Then nothing.

If I then alt/tab, MFME is running with the machine loaded, but only with the very top of the cabinet in the layout showing.

Attached a picture, which I've reduce the quality of to save mb's

Thanks :)  It seems like I definitely need more work on getting the MFME mechanism robust, hopefully we can get these problems ironed out in update patches...

I will get an update out soon, that will show some debug information on the HUD (enabled by default) - so then we should be able to tell from a screenshot what the specific MFME-related problems are...

Just tried it, can move around etc, press enter then nothing happens.

Did the alt/tab thing and no other windows were open or error messages etc...

What about the other shock sites? One in particular "you spin me right round baby right round..."

Used to use bigpockets.co.uk for my media and the like!

I don't know the spin me right round baby site, but it did remind me of the internet sensation, the dancing baby, that went what we now call viral back in the late 90's.

    http://www.dancing-baby.net/BabyMus1.htm

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_baby

I seem to remember I even bought a disk where you could get the baby do different dances, also with screensavers/backgrounds etc on it.

I can’t get the slaves to Load with the top box, only one of the other, do I need to put the slaves in the same folder as the top box? Truly just can’t figure it out on my own soz

EDIT......Do as Dad says first, if it doesn't work, then do the below.

1/ Open the emulator and load the top box.

2/ Then open the emulator again (just click on the mfme file again and it will load another instance of the emulator) and load a slave.

3/ Repeat step 2 twice more to open up the other 2 slaves. So you have the top box and the 3 slaves loaded.

4/ Left click on the top box and hold down the ALT key on your keyboard and while holding it down, press L on the keyboard.

5/ You will see a message saying 3 games linked on the top box and game linked on the slaves.

6/ Press CTRL Q on the keyboard to close everything down.

7/ Open up the top box and the 3 slaves should load, as well.

Once you have the top box and 3 slaves open, then follow the instructions in my previous post about resizing and moving everything in place.

  7. Glad you're enjoying it.

It's quite unbelievable people are still discovering FME for the first time, some 20 years on from when the emulator was available for free, to anyone who searched for fruit machine emulation.

  8. Sometimes the % is determined via the dip switches on older machines.

Sometimes it's worth trying to turn them on in the configuration screen.

It can also other do other settings, like auto payout and price of play.

Otherwise it could be worth trying others roms.

Most machines I remember back from the £4 era, had payouts of no greater than 78% and in many cases more like 70%-74%.

I certainly don't ever remember seeing a machine in the 90% area, low 80s at best.

Soft shite / Get a grip / Sob story alert.  If you've never been affected by gambling, drink and drugs, don't read.

Not read any of the replies since the 10th (I'll catch up shortly, so I apologise if I'm repeating what others have said).

    @Chopaholic

Watched the low ebb vid, reading back my notes, I've written "same" 37 times.  In a few places I find it upsetting.  For you, or me, or both, or any other gambler, I don't know.

Mine was almost identical, to the point where I'm thinking something mental like am I you, or are you me?

Only slight difference, I passed the first year at uni, then did the same as you, only in year two, from September to January.

When you mentioned the catologue, I almost fell off my chair.  I got a Great Universal one, and here's the thing, had no income whatsoever.  Bought things I could easily sell, VCRs, Tellys, etc.

Oh and same with Natwest, yes you can have a £400 overdraft, cheques for cash at the tillers.

The "long weekend thing", started out, 1989, September, 18th birthday, I'm taken out on the pop, we go clubbing, had the night of my life.  Few months later, I find some other mates who do this on a Saturday, so joined them.  Then as @Geddy will know, there was Tuesday night snooker in the club, joined the snooker team.  Wednesday was pool night, followed my mates who played in the team home and away.  Thursday night, darts and doms, home and away.  Sunday and Monday, there'd be cards going on, a turn, strippers or whatever.  So it quickly turns into a 7 day session.

Friday/Saturday nights never played the bandits, but on every other night I did, and in the daytime.

The lies, the getting on the 141/159/161/220/535 (one for Geddy, or Alth), on the morning, bye I'm off to uni, get into Sunderland.  Get the bus or train to Shields, Seaburn, Newcastle, Whitley Bay with 6 cans, and be pissed by 9am and ready to play.  And lose.  And walk home, 15-25 miles because I didn't have a free pass or the fare home.  Did that twice from Newcastle.  That's Newcastle to Houghton Le Spring.  Many times from Seaburn to Houghton Le Spring.  Look it up, it's a canny hike.

The relationships fucked up, the chances fucked up as well.  I remember being in a club and watching the bandits waiting for players to come off, being chatted up by lasses, and I'd tell them "our lass is in the other room" so they'd leave me alone, so I was ready to jump on when someone had finished playing.

Next 25+ years, pretty much continue to do the same.

Roll forward to April 2019, I'm at AA, and am drink and drug free.  Then came covid.  Then came last August.  When I read the news here, I thought what do I do?  I should have called my support network at AA, or my support at the NY Mental Health crisis team.  But no, I know better obviously.  I go on 6 weeks sick off work, drinking heavily every day, and signed up accounts with Sky Vegas, Casumo, Dream Vegas, and The Sun.  £2 stake.  Win loads in a couple of days.  Few grand up.  Lose that.  And more.  Then September/oct/nov, I spunk away each pay packet, can't pay rent, bills, DD, standing orders etc.  3 times get bailed out by my dad.  Had another trip to James Cook in Boro, not good.  Only then, In November, I realise after 30+ years of gambling, I look into my dads eyes, and see a frail, old man; the torment my life has placed on my parents hits me.  So I stop.  Sign up with Gamstop on a 5 year total ban from everywhere.

7 months on, still drinking everyday, but am gambling free.

Another sad story that no doubt members can relate to in parts.

But it's great to see you're on the right road now.

There is always a reason behind gambling, boredom and stress being the two main culprits imo. But on the other hand it can be because it can be fun and even thrilling.

The key really is to prevent the reason/s why someone turns to gambling and because it's not always possible to prevent these reasons from happening, to have an alternative to gambling, when it does.

Plenty of us guys here were sucked in to a world of fruit machine addiction. I myself have many a time where I got paid, spunked it through the fruit machines in the local arcade and then having to ring my partner to say I've lost my wallet and I haven't got money to get home, as my excuse for wasting the family budget.... My addiction was once so bad I'd even punt my bus fare home. No bus fare, meant a 3 mile walk home. And not an ordinary walk but a truly dejected walk of shame back home. Trying to think of ways I could explain away to my then partner how I lost my money. Mugged..... for the 3rd month in a row? Lost my wallet.... that happens sooooo many times.... Those 3 miles got me thinking about suicide. Doing myself in. And the way I was feeling at that time, it wouldn't be all that difficult to follow that through. That was the early 1990's

That walk leaves you with some strange stuff going through your head. How can I explain away how I've come home with no money on pay day.... I let my family down and most of all i let myself down.

These days I work in North and North East Lincolnshire. That covers Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Scunthorpe and Immingham. In Cleethorpes, I see families who clearly have saved lots of money for some time for their 'Grand Day Out'. Wasting their cash on machines and pushers. Their kids watching and learning.... Future addicts...

Covering Immingham, theres no arcades there. The working class, poor pensioners, people on benefits, those not living comfortable lives are chasing their dreams a different way. I kid you not, I've seen a young mum or dad, get their benefits from the post office, only to exchange a rather large sum of money for National Lottery scratch cards. This seems to be the new gambling sin and you don't even need to go to the seaside. Have you seen the odds on these scratch cards? Claims of 1 in 4 is a winner... thats correct if you were to consider a 'money back' win as a win. I think it's more like 1 in 9 to actually win more money than the scratch card cost. But those win your money back, the WIN £3 but the scratch card cost you £3, you've not made anything on that gamble.

Scunthorpe is the same. People buying scratch cards... Not just the odd card but buying £50 plus on the things...  After they have drawn their benefits or pensions.... (I've seen this stacks and stacks of times in Ashby Scunthorpe and in Immingham).

All forms of gambling are easily accessible to all including those least able to afford it, the most vulnerable. Searching for that win, that dream, that life changing event...

But the whole gambling industry can shake off their responsibilites where they ruin lives by saying...

    WHEN THE FUN STOPS....... STOP!

Part of the issue I think maybe for you, was I believe you really liked Watch For My Hidden Treasure machines a lot.

Even on a £4.80 jackpot, these could be brutal, as they seemed to be the first machines, that would actually build up for streak in a brutal way.

People think Red Gaming machines, could be brutal, but these machines, could also take £10-£15 off you, before even offering a win, which I don't remember any machines doing before the WFMHT machines. They could take £20-£30 before they dare give you a £2.40 and £30-£40 before you might get a jackpot.

It always seemed risky to play them, unless you had £30-£40 minimum on you.

Of course on the other hand, you could get the up to £40-£50 streak out of them, but then a lot of the time, at least 3/4 of the pay was in tokens. Which of course would probably just go back in other machines, for a lot less cash out.

As for Scratch Card, I get more pleasure out of scratching something else lol.

  11. I like to see the emulator used in different ways.

Some of my mates, say what's the point, you can't win or lose money.

But I always say, that a lot of machines are like old video games, where they are just fun to play particularly for the £4-£8 era.

Even some of the machines from the £25 era, can still offer multiple way of getting a jackpot and it's fun, trying to set up Nudge to the Nearest Win, or Tutti Frutti in red mode, to give a jackpot.

I quite often, also give myself an imaginary limited balance to play and either play the machine, as I would taking wins here or there and see if I end up with a profit. Or seeing if I can get a jackpot before the money runs out.

Last time I played MPU4 Take Two on 20p £4.80 jackpot and played until I forced it to give either the jackpot or a Money Maker £2.40 which repeated. I couldn't believe I was £30 in, before it finally gave me the Money Maker which repeated. So £25 down on a £4.80 machine.

I don't dare sign up to play online in the same way I don't dare try charlie - I know I'd love it too much and lose everything

Yes it's very dangerous unless you put strict limits in place and find sites that if you want to change the limit upwards you need to wait a few days or a week before it comes into effect.

A few times I've upped mine, either through my choice to have a bit of a bigger gamble or because I'm doing our syndicate betting on Cheltenham Races.

I soon reduce it back, because I feel it could very easily get out of hand. Or while not rabidly out of hand, once or twice, I've gambled more than I intended to.

The trouble is gambling can be fun and thrilling, but when you hit a bad run, it really hurts.

I do watch some of Degsys video of real gambling and some other youtubers video, ok they do seems to be a bit jammy quite often and of course everything is rosey in the garden.

But when there not winning, you can hear in their voice and the way they speak, exactly what most gamblers think. It's that what an utter waste of money and time, playing these slots for zero entertainment is. Why the fuck do I still keep giving these vulture companies my time and money.

Thankfully I either have that attitude before I play, so don't, or after 10-15 of utter boredom, stop playing and think, nah not wasting my time and money. That even goes when I'm in Vegas, not doing well, just go to the bar or a walk.

  13. Lowering the tone of the thread/place, but there were a couple of controversial ones as well, which I only visited out of curiosity, once or maybe twice.

Rate My *** .com, showing toilet bowls let's say and the one which showed, murder scenes and accident scene pictures, *ot*en.com

Hope I haven't offended anyone, but those two were well known sites in the late 90's.

No intention of looking to see if they still exist, because they were disgusting.

  14. I'm just grateful, that largely from 2009, I stopped playing online and offline, to the extent on being an addict.

I still occasionally play online and I do go to land based casinos a few times a year, but nothing major. It's all very restricted by either limits I have in place or limits I impose on myself, when offline.

Still hoping to go to Vegas in October though, but looking doubtful, I'll probably be 52, before I get to celebrate my 50th in Vegas, as was the intention last year.

  15. Another good yarn to listen to.

Every one of them, makes me think, that while I was addicted and eventually in a lot debt, I could have been in a much worse off situation.

It's very true, with family/friends, it's bad enough. But without them, it's even worse. It's a very lonely addiction, because it's just you and the machine.

While I didn't do the student thing, I went straight to work at a station, I still managed to play them, when I should have been working. At first, being late back from breaks or saying I'm off to the toilet and then break and using that extra 5/10 minutes before to gamble.

Things progressed even worse, when still at the same station, I got a job, involving roaming around the station to stick up posters/passenger charter figures and fill leaflet racks etc...I'd then disappear off site for an hour or more, up in the arcades.

I'd occasionally get asked where have you been and I'd always make a flimsy excuse, but definitely several people knew what I was doing. I was always the one in the group in the pub, who would be playing the machine, while everyone else was chatting/laughing. So people knew I was hooked (sounds better then addicted lol) on playing machines.

Never shit myself, during my addicted period though lol. That bit at the end did make me chuckle, played it back several times and still giggle now when writing this.

I get a few refill cash or tokens messages on Scorp4 games like jumping jack flash/ money to burn  and the clubber firecracker these are in the smiley cabs so afaik checkbox 32 does work is their another checkbox I should be using to eliminate this message?

TBH, I not an expert of things like checkboxes, I was only going by what has worked for some machines, I think normally Scorpion 4 AWP's. At the time of posting, I was on my mobile, away from the emulator, so it was more a general post.

But I know the hopper sounds playing is a one for all fix. Most volumes for Scorpion 4 games, are adjusted the same way and Ram error messages clear on second load. So couldn't go wrong on that score lol.

I've had a look at the clubbers and tried refilling them and a few other bits and pieces, but so far many do say refill cash as you say.

I don't even have Jumping Jack Flash, Gold Digger and Rich Geezer as not wishing to diss them, but they are low res layouts.

  17. Changing the machines volume depends on the technology of the machine and sometimes also the manufacturer of the machine.

Press + and - on the keyboard (depending on device you may need to press Cntl or alt with - and +) with any layout loaded will turn up and down the sound in the emulator but may not be loud enough still, if the machine is set to very low sound.

On most Scorpion 4 tech machines after loading the machine, press F9 to show the doors and meter bars if they are not showing. Then tick the S door box.

Once the machine shows read meters, press the test box (near the S door box) and then use the buttons flashing (not start) to scroll through until you find volume. Then press start and you should be able to turn the volume up and down using the flashing buttons normally cancel and hold 1 button. Then press start to come out of the volume control, then untick the S door and let the machine initialise again.

Also don't forget to see if the volume for MFME is low, by opening the volume controls by the clock on the windows taskbar.

To stop the constant payout sounds, press Cntl E to enter edit mode, then click on the configuration tab.

Remove the ticks from hopper 1 and 2.

    Close the configuration tab.

Now press Cntl E to come out of edit mode.

You can then either reload the machine by clicking file and selecting it and save changes.

Or you can press Cntl R to just reload the machine (simulated switching the machine off and back on again). Then when you finish playing and close the layout save the changes.

The refill message is irrelevant, but if you really want to try to get rid of it, try creating a checkbox 32 and see if it goes away.

To do that again press Cntl E for edit mode.

Right click on a blank part of the layout I. E not on a lamp or button, and from the menu choose buttons then choose checkbox. Right click on the checkbox and choose properties and number it on left hand side of the properties screen 32 and tick it on the right hand side of that screen, you can also change the 0 in the bottom left of the screen to 32. Close the properties box.

Come out of edit mode (Cntl E) and reload the layout saving changes when asked.

The ram message may go away by itself the second time you load a layout. Also make sure the layout isn't in read only mode which it would say in the title bar after loading the layout, next to the name.

  18. I got an email from svp, the other day and it got me thinking about sites I used numerous times in the early days of the net, which I either haven't used for 10 plus years or were big well known sites, which have now gone.

I don't think looking at the address svp is the original site, which I'd buy hundreds of blank dvds and sleeves etc, but haven't used for numerous years.

Then there's play.com, a dvd/cd buyers heaven, but now no longer, having changed in to a marketplace before closing down altogether.

Anyone else got any popular websites in mind from the early days of the web, that literally everyone raved about and used, but have since gone out of business or changed to a different format.

  19. Thankfully we do have some who are 100% helpful and we have benefitted from quite a few resources.

I do think some people, don't have any interest in emulation. Sometimes there are even conversations about machines and how they'd love to play them again and you think, it's been emulated perfectly for years, so you can. Yes it's not the physical machine, but it plays 100% the same.

Then some who do like emulation, think, that a DX in particular, of a machine, will either devalue their machine or even make them want to sell it. We do suddenly see a lot of machines on Ebay, after they have got a DX.

I think emulation in DX form, has the best chance, of preserving a machine, in a playable state.
