  1. What emulator are you using V5? I just get unsupported platform error. J
  2. Needless to say for a newcomer it really is a daunting task to create a layout. The tools in the later versions of mfme are much more powerful and user friendly, being one of a handful of still active old skool creators, I tend to take it for granted when working in mfme. J
  3. You need to work with the guide and build the layout as detailed. Not sure if there are any blank layouts to download here, possibly over at fruit-emu. Actually, wonder if there is a new ‘blank layout’ option in mfme? That would be nifty. J
  4. If you download 'Reg's guide' to building your first layout. It will learn you to build your first layout from scratch, that's what it is. It's a must for anyone starting out. Do a search or check the download section. J
  5. Yeah, it's not so easy working on this tech as your first machine. Try a newer tech, maybe Scorp 5, it has a test mode that basically gives you all the lamp assignments. These are generally the easier machine to work on for a newbie Creating layouts is not for everyone, I had a little background and understanding of fruit machines before I created layouts. But like everything it does take a certain amount of effort, mainly time though J
  6. It’s a good idea to download a released layout and dismantle and see how various things are done/created. This is a great way to learn the basics especially on your first layout, it can seem a little daunting at first. J
  7. The SID chip is an impressive synth. Some amazing tunes on the C64. The first tune I ever heard was Sanxion by Thalamus. I was totally blown away. My favourites are the sublime Ocean loaders, immense. My true love is the Z80 based ZX Spectrum, there are some decent tunes. I’m a big fan of the beeper music, anyone who has owned and used a ZX Spectrum will know how underpowered the sound was on these systems. One internal speaker, 1 channel, with no real volume control, yet Tim Follin did things with the sound that almost defy what was possible. One of my favourites, such a talented guy. Retro Bliss. J
  8. Reel Crazy will be a difficult starter for a novice and we have a decent classic and graphic layout I believe. I’m not trying to put you off you can work on whatever you want ;). J
  9. Reg’s guide will give you all the info you need regarding roms and how you can go abou loading them into the layout etc. It’s best to try and work things out for yourself, get yourself acquainted with how the emulator and tools work, you can’t bust anything. Don’t choose a machine you are not familiar with for your first layout and don’t try to please others just do want you want to do. J
  10. Kirsty. Literally anyone can create a classic or graphic layout. Wizard the emulator author has created a really nice set of ‘user friendly’ design tools to make things easier. As long as you can put the time and effort in, those are the main ingredients. You might want to take a look at the valuable resource that Reg released, it’s an mfme creators guide. J
  11. So... doing some initial testing and portrait widescreen monitor are not the best fit for most fruit machines as the screen is too long, probably a 5:4 ratio would be better but touchscreen monitors at those specs are very expensive. There are ways I can overcome this problem. Some kind of artwork along the top of the screen etc. Full cab DX layouts will be fine. Ive reworked a layout I plan to release next year at some point. It’s looking stunning in screen tests. This touchscreen is epic, 27” goodness . I might even just mount it on a wall with some kind of shelf blow it and a casino chair. The quality of the artwork is very high and looks very realistic with the lamp work I’ve already done so far. The dimensions are a straight 1080/1920 portrait, not quite 4K but the screen size is immense and hoping it will be emmersive. No buttons just touchscreen controls. J
  12. I want a slick looking build, this should work out well. My monitor is arriving tomorrow. Hope to get it sorted before Christmas is over J
  13. Thinking about getting the red sprayed black too. J
  14. So I’m just about to start my new cab build. It’s going to be fairly simple as I have a decent cab already. I plan on removing the dual screens and fit my incoming sleek Acer 27” touchscreen. 10 point multitouch. I’m not having buttons but the screen, slight modification of my cab to fit this massive screen. Also this cab has the needed ledge to rest your arms when using touchscreen. Hoping it will be comfy. Here are my parts far. Cab was from spa. Screen will be fitted portrait orientation. Logo, Perspex and led shizzle in the works. J
  15. These builds really are awesome, almost magical, so much more immersive than any other form of emulation. Cheers for the excellent video mate J
  16. The flat batter dream ;). Did you plug it in the arcade Choppers'?. Naughty boy ; J
  17. That’s a nice bit of kit you have J
  18. Looks decent, where did you get the artwork printed, looks good quality
  19. Bloody hell when did you get the lines trick? I didn't think you could get arrested for exploiting a software bug!! Arrested, seriously? That's pretty mental.
  20. I stopped plugging after 4 bouncers held me and my mate against our will and made us empty our pockets, went through our personal belongings and searched us, again all against our will. They wouldn’t call the police, horrible experience that left us a bit shook up. The crazy thing was we weren’t plugging anything, the barman didn’t like us playing in this pub but to subject to this was nasty. Could have just asked us to leave. J
  21. Plugging was cleaner but it’s still theft, blowing the tubes on an m1a machine could be classed as vandalism . J
  22. You couldn’t do that it the wild though, unless you prised the door and it let the switch pop out momentarily... or had the keys J
  23. I loved Apache, remember it very well, it was a better game, Big Chief was a bit low like a low tech, Apache you could gamble and exchange wins. Excellent video as usual, love these vids, I find them very interesting and you always do some homework beforehand. Many thanks Al J
  24. Still the easiest Project Coin to empty very quickly was Joker’s Wild. You can literally plug it on any win after hold after nudge as reels would reset to previous state if not. Later revisions didn’t work, so only the chip that you could potentially empty, albeit very slowly, depending on percentage. J
