Fruit Machine Emulation - Video History

Hope Reg doesn't mind me starting this thread, but I'm hoping that going forward it can be a central repository for forums chat about the 'Video History' series.

Specifically, I'll be asking for input/assistance from others on the scene with future videos, to see if they have any archived material, input, recollections, etc of their own that they'd like to see covered in the videos. (And as has already been witnesses in niallquinn's 'All old school FME people, read this.......and listen!' thread, quite a few of us are still around and we've got some really interesting stuff archived out between us. And pictures of Viv's arse.)

There are only two parts of the history up to now (linked below, Part Two is new today), Part Three will pick up at August 2001 which is when The Hovel archive begins. (I'm still not entirely sure how I'm going to approach Part Three, I'm almost considering doing a part per month for August 2001-September 2002, as there was just so much stuff going on.)

Anyway,

Not watched the second part yet, but I do hope these continue.

If you are at the hovel opening period, you are now for me at a critical part where you probably need to choose a path to go down and stick with it.

I guess it's how in depth you want to go. Month by month would mean really going into fine detail, even then doing year by year after say 2002, could still be fine detail.

Or you could do a few more general history and key moment videos.

Then do individual videos with topics such as Other FME emulators, FME forums through the years. MFME through the years. Perhaps one on layouts and the designers.

Whatever you do I'll definitely be watching.

Yes I know there are certainly many ways to skin this particular cat.... I honestly haven't decided the best approach yet, and it's also going to come down to what resources are available to refer to when researching and putting the videos together, and it just so happens that The Hovel is a decent chronological record of the period August 2001-September 2002 and I've also got the email/MSN archives from that period.

That's a good chunk of what this thread is for, as maybe there'll be other historical records that I can refer to. A complete archive of MPU/Fruit Forums from the time would be invaluable, I'm aware that there's a site online at this link, but it's somewhat incomplete (who's actually put this up and is hosting it?) - http://www.fruitforums.co.uk/vb/index.php

Also, I need to break the videos down into more manageable pieces, as I can't really commit to spending 20 hours or more on each video (which was the total effort Part Two took when everything was added together). So I'm thinking that a monthly 'digest' might allow for more regular uploads of the series.

Everything you've suggested there are good ideas and have crossed my mind as well, I'll choose a path eventually...... :D
