  1. Looks great @Reg, but I also think your name should be on there too.  There are a few more names I can think of from years gone by but I suppose its where you draw the line, I mean you could fill an entire page with just a few of Pandys aliases alone lol

Its a difficult balancing act adding names both past & present and you can't put everyone on there so I think the list you've done is fine.  Oh! and thanks for adding me too, at least my 'nick' doesn't take up much space :D

Also 'Slot Action' makes me think of something entirely different ;)

Good afternoon everyone not sure if this is the correct place for this topic please correct me if not, As the title says I want to try and do my first DX I loved playing this machine as a kid so thought this would be a good one to try as there is only a classic version out there as far as I know. Are there any rules before I start, can I use bits of other peoples work like the classic version from @stevedude2 and actual similar cabinets that are on other layouts etc, or do you have to do everything from scratch ?

Fisrtly, its very good of you to ask about rules etc, and yes there are a few niceties to consider.   If you intend to use 'bits' from other layouts its polite to get permission from the original designer (whenever possible), then make a 'thank you' reference to them when it comes to making a release post.   If you use someone's classic as a starting point then you should definately thank them in your release and possibly even put their name in 'Caption' in the configuration section so it shows on the status bar.

What you should never do, and many newbies have fallen foul of this is to change other designers layouts and claim them as your own.  That is a definate NoNo!!

Lastly, at DIF you'll find that this is the place where the current DX'ers hang out and most certainly the pace to come to if you need help and assistance.  It always good to see someone wanting to try their hands at DX'ing and at first you're probably going to have some questions.  If you do, don't be afraid to ask as we're always happy to help :)

Nope I don't get it. I've downloaded roms and they are in .bin and hex file format. Do I have to open the .bin file to get the rom?

Is there an easier way than this?

No you don't have to open .bin or .hex roms.  If you open the '.gam' file in windows notepad, it'll tell you which roms you need.  Just make sure they're in the same folder as the layout.

I'm a bit of a malt guy, unfortunately my tastes are a touch expensive regarding the stuff... gotta love a drop of the Macallan...

Fuck that!  If it's whiskey I'll chuck it down my neck whether its single malt or not ;)  Last time I was in Glasgow they had a bottle there for about £800 and I couldn't help thinking how many bottles of Aldi whiskey could I buy with that hahah!  I'm partial to St Andrew's though very nice that, even though its a blended whiskey.

Nope - that was the only one.  MFME has stuck like no other hobby - lol !

Could do with a new one entitled "MFME 20 years on" about how the scene has changed since the first version, then in another 20 years we can look back on that too.

    That's if I'm still around ;)

Cheers DAD, ive just done that now so will take a look around.

Is there a donation available to this site also, as obviously like to give my support in the same way, but cant do it until next week as a bit skint during this lockdown atm

DADsFME is hosted by our very own @Reg so each time I receive an offer of a donation I direct them to him.

  7. Yeah exactly the same.

What you have to remember is 'some' layouts particularly in the legacy section were created many years ago on earlier versions of MFME and won't nessesarily work 100% straight out of the box.  Some need an update/fix/tweak for them to work properly on the latest emulator.

    That's not working either unfortunately.

Right clicking the game but nothing coming up so don't know what else to do.

Its strange because the instructions before the game loads says to use 0 to input coins so cant understand why its not working the normal way it does on other games?

No, right click on the Windows task bar not the game.

  9. Indiana Jones (so not to get confused)

Looking at the video it appears your windows task bar is covering the bottom part of the layout.  Right click it and if there's a tick where it says Lock the Task Bar, just click that, then you can drag your windows task bar to either side  of the screen or even the top.  That will give you access to the lower part of the layout, then you can alter the coinmech as per previous instructions.

As for the DX of Partytime, its not available on this site but there's a clue in my avatar pic ;)

  10. Once you load in the top box, you can load in 1,2 or 3 slaves.  If you link them and close the game it'll remember the settings, then next time you load the game it should carry on where you left off.  Once linked you only ever need to load the Top Box - the slaves will load automatically.

  11. You could try going into edit mode, scroll across so you can see the coin mech, right click on it to bring up the properties window, then uncheck the box that says 'lockout' then close the properies window then click edit mode again to close it.  If that works for you  then don't forget to save the layout.
