  1. Hi Degsy first I have to say it took some, to relive that story with us and I do hope all those days are truly in the past.I have also found myself at countless lows due to the machines from nearly 3 decades of addiction, but none to the extent I ever felt the scary urge to harm myself. please STAY SAFE MATE,I MEAN THAT. That is quite shocking what you went through on that terrible occasion, you have my utmost sympathy.I can completely empathise with the whole situation.GAMBLING IS AN EXTREMELY CRUEL CON THAT WILL TAKE AND TAKE AND TAKE TILL EVERY LAST DROP HAS GONE,and would STILL CONTINUE TO DO SO, IF IT fuckin COULD.IT SHOWS NO REMORSE OR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT INFLICTS ON IT'S SUBJECTS. It's utterly ridiculous and scandalous that this EVIL is even allowed to happen and that there aren't any PROPER safeguards in place to stop this EVIL ADDICTION.All this "play what you can only afford to lose" and helplines, exclusion, limits etc don't come ANYWHERE NEAR CLOSE to what's required. I've rung GA and Gamcare in the past but all to no avail in any regard whatsoever. I blame the programmers, the Manufacturers, the pubs,(the government for allowing this to even take place), and betting shops, for using every trick in the book, in taking US ALL on a WILD ride to MISERY AND DISPAIR,without any care or concern of what it does to countless people the world over. SHAME ON YOU. I BLAME MYSELF ALL THE TIME too for being such a greedy, falliable MUG in that I've been taken in by this Problem that you only have to look around you today to see to what extent, has become of it. Truly Horrendous. The only thing that is going to help me and others perhaps, is to show dogged determination in never ever ever returning to gambling.I do believe the LURE is something in my nature ie,flashing lights.sounds, games, that has been, truly TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. Countless times after a LOSS I've tried to tell myself WTF are you doing, you could have bought this, that or the other many many many times over.Just the other day I wanted to buy a vinyl from Discogs but ummed and ahh'd about the £5 cost inc p&p (strange how I seem to do that) AND YET GO AND LOSE £47 + £317 two days later on the fruit machines in the press and hope of a few buttons.Christ I could have bought that record 72.8 TIMES OVER.and that's just one example of countless others I could tell you about. It's fucking rediculous it really is. I've been there too with you Degsy (minus the dreadful mirror, knife, hospital incident) where you literally can't buy a box of matches due to nature the addictiction has over you. I remember getting paid one Friday going in the pub with work collegues, then losing the weeks wage on a machine and having to ask a work collegue while she's sat down in a group with others enjoying chatting and drinking, if I could borrow a tenner to buy literally bread for the week & 20 fags. She looked at me like WTF you only just got paid 2 hours ago.I wasn't bothered about the humiliation of asking but more about the shitty week ahead with no food ,fags, beer or anything really.IT REALLY WAS SHIT. I remember another time like you spending all the money in a pub on eastenders, changing the tenners for pints and £1 coins only to lose it all (with no money for food or anything for at least a fortnight), when that Friday evening your housemates get back from Uni,Poly in great moods for a night out round the bars and you feel SO fucking shitty & LOW that you COULD'VE GONE IF you weren't so stupid as to lose it all in the fuckin evil machines. It feels so shit like a numb lul the hours and days after such losses, but this fades away into the distant past then,I get the URGE,IMPULSE back to gamble yet again, foolishly thinking THIS time will be DIFFERENT, I'll win.I can't possibly always lose,IT HAS TO WIN BY THE LAWS OF PROBABILITY. But of course It NEVER EVER FUCKING DOES. I've tried countless things like only take so much out with you,but you inevitably just find yourself at the cash machine taking £200 out, trying to get change here and there because the stupid note acceptors FUCK UP then they turn the machine OFF. and the Pubs NEVER HAVE A SUFFICIENT FLOAT of £1 coins. Then running home for more, with the STUPID BELIEF I'M GOING TO WIN it back,I NEVER HAVE,YOU NEVER DO,YOU JUST LOSE MORE OF IT. I've put hundreds of pieces of paper, cellotaped up on my wardrobe with dates losses and REMINDERS NEVER TO PLAY THEM AGAIN, but I do. I've said millions of TIMES THAT'S IT ,NEVER AGAIN and yet I found myself for the first time ever, two days ago on a FOBT,trying to win some of the £464 I lost six weeks ago and the £217 I lost two weeks ago then ending up losing another £317 two days ago.I'd lost £47 previously in the day on the utter boring rubbish that is BULLIONBars despite winning £89 from it.The maths are constantly against you. IT ALWAYS STARTS WITH A WARM FEELING, THIS TIME I'M GOING TO WIN, AND QUIT WHEN I'M AHEAD,BUT IT ALWAYS ENDS UP BEING CHASING THE LOSSES. I WATCHED STOP AND STEP (YOUTUBE) play Wish upon a Jackpot on the fortune spins 2 days ago and noted THAT FUCKIN FAT FAIRY FUCK won't rub off as she did six fuckin times in a row on the PUB version then AFTER £217 IN give you Jack & the Bullshit feature for £3. SERIOUSLY WTF IS THAT, IT'S NOT EVEN A JOKE,IT'S GOT TO STOP !!!!!! stop and step won fairly big on WUAJ on the fortune spins so FOOLISHLY I thought I'll go out and win like that too. I'll tell you what ,I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE OF GAMBLING BEEN SHOCKED AS MUCH AS TO HOW QUICK the FOBT ATE £20 AFTER £20 trying to get that GOLD FAIRY FUCK OUT ONCE IT LITERALLY ATE £280 IN THE SPACE OF NOT EVEN 2 MINUTES.and when she finally appeared I won a measly £7 on the poxy pinnochio spin. I did win £100 earlier on King Kong cash (if I can call it that as it wasn't enough to compensate for the earlier losses) and £56 on Fishing frenzy then another £85 and £57 on other things but all in all I was carried away with the belief I'd win more only to be £364 down by the end of the day. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THIS TIME I'M GOING TO ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN MAKE IT MY AIM A FRUIT MACHINE IS NOT GOING TO SEE ONE MORE PENNY FROM ME ONCE AND FOR ALL,I FEEL THAT ANGRY ABOUT IT. Degsy I'm REALLY SORRY TO RAVE ON ABOVE LIKE THAT AND FOR ALL THE CAPS LOCK ETC,but I just wanted to share a small slice of the experiences I've encountered in giving you some assurance that you're FAR FROM BEING ALONE in all this. I am very pleased to hear after watching your video that your dark days are hopefully over since the early 2000's. I WILL FOLLOW IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS as an Inspiration to do the same for myself from NOW ON. Otherwise I'm gonna be well and truly fucked unless I really wake the fuck up and do something about this from now on. Best Regards
  2. I was wondering about this today and found this bit of info, https://www.casino.org/blog/fruit-machines-got-fruit-symbols/ I never knew how it came about, or where the first slot originated from, but I do now and it's quite interesting.you might be surprised to learn about it. Also as a side point, today, I caught site of a slot, by a manufacturer, close to my heart, which I was surprised to learn were in the slot machine business now.Only because I love there games and I stumbled across a familiar image to me ,the Moai , that smoke ring blowing baddy from the Incredible Gradius 1,2,3,4,& 5 series, and even the not much known about Nemesis 90'kai version on the sharp x68000. I love Shmups and have played almost everyone ever created commercial and fanmade. Love the Castlevania series,Goeman series ,Yie ar kung fu etc etc as well, just a fantastic company. The company is a familiar one to many and it's Konami, perhaps the American division created this slot as opposed the main Japanese HQ. the slot is called Great Moai and here's a couple of pics. There are a couple of You-tube videos of Americans playing them in the casinos. sorry about the mixed thread but as you know , I am besotted with GAMES of all types, be it Fruit,Video,Pinball,Simulators, anything fun really..
  3. Wow Awsome, really well done Reg on sourcing the roms, and to Matty N & Wizard for all making this happen. Thank you
  4. Hi guys, sorry for the delay in returning to the thread, been down the internet rabbit hole ,and all manner of things, you know how it is. Future Pinball,V-Pinmame etc etc I've been watching Ally Law, ILLSIGHT, Nightscape, OntheRoofs aka Vitaliy Raskalov and Vadim Makhorov , James Kingston, Oleg Cricket aka Oleg Sherstyachenko, and that tidy russian girl Angela Nikolau all doing youtube roof topping videos, looking at all their photos, drone footage etc etc UNBELIEVABLE STUFF. like they say on Ally's channel it really "is a madness" but utterly incredible at the same time. PS Caution Advisory IF YOU'RE SCARED OF HEIGHTS - DO NOT WATCH some of that content, you might fall off your chair Anyway back to this thread - @Pook Yes I remember doing similar with re the zx tapes at school although not for selling, but what me and four mates did was to meet on the playing fields at school on a friday, then all pick a different title game that we were all happy with, then individually get the said games over the weekend and make four copies, on the old trusty tape to tape player for each of the other four friends for the "meet & swap" on Monday at school , bit like a buy 1 get 4 free if you like. must admit it was a bit nervy doing the dastardly deal out there on some secluded spot if there is such a thing on an open school playing field (oxymoron maybe). we must have looked well dodgy think we only did it a couple of times anyway before other school crazes took over. ah yes the good old Kempston Joystick with suckers, silly me at that age thought you had to wet\spit on the 4 suckers to grip the table. It did grip.......... but also drag all over the desk area attached to it lol not a good idea ahah. oh yes did you ever accidently suss the cheat out for the high jump on Daley Thompson's Decathlon, I think you had to do the first two jumps over the bar as normal but then if you timed it correctly you could jump under the bar ,careful as to not knock the bar from underneath and land on the mat.obviously the coders input was if the bar fell or not, not if you did the event legally. I don't think you'd get away with that from the Hyper Sports judge from konami ,he was a right b%#ard about your foot on or over the line . anyway I think I managed something like 12 meters on the high jump LOL before I got bored haha. you probably know this or are far to busy with other sensible things but did you know that there are some manic miner variations (20 or so) available from world of spectrum site. there are some really tough looking levels on some of these also I believe there's a manic miner editor somewhere . @Reg There is a remake of 3d Ant attack on the net here's a couple of pics for you , and yes I totally agree about the rose tinted specs ,also Turbo Esprit by durell was 3D which like the isometric ones Ant Attack and Night Lore,Hydrofool,Movie,Highway Encounter and my fav Quazatron was unreal to see on a home computer of the time. here's a great comment I saw the other day Nostalgia ain't what it used to be !!!! @ MPU_FIVE only level 17 , manic miner , then you never got to this room which was a complete !%# of a room , that yellow line flashed into different patterns at the speed of lightning when it wanted to and if you were on it , it was good night vienna also I agree bombjack was a really great game at the time @AE ah yes the old Q for UP , A for Down etc etc, funny isn't it how we all used those keys although some people did like to use Z and X for left and right for some games. @ Reg I do remember the first time I tried to Load a game by just pressing play on the tape recorder and typing RUN then enter on the keyboard and wondering why nothing was happening lol @johnnyafc thanks for the link, I'll try to get round to watching that sometime if I can tear myself away from the endless other stuff on the all consuming tinternetz lol there's some nice footage of the elusive Mathew Smith coder of manic miner and JSW on you-tube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWmmMZlhcqU I think he's a hero but there are some very nasty comments on some interviews with him about his Autistic nature and drug problem which I find appalling and disheartening, why there are ignorant people people like that,I'll never know. @wearecity I do sort of agree about the games not holding up anymore, especially when you put them up to the likes of Bloodborne , Dark Souls etc but there is something to be said about the joy of ease with which these old games played. ie left, right up,down and jump . They are easy to play and require a certain skill where timing is concerned. I think I played Falcon 4.0 on the pc and every key on the keyboard had a binding coupled with the fact you could multiply that by 3 because shift & keys and Alt & keys or Ctrl & keys did things too.It came with its own template and leaflet but bloody hell if you know what I mean lol. forever trying to find what key does what and researching the meaning when found hehe. I also play the emulators and think they are all Fantastic , I can't run Dolphin very well on my system as its an oldish PC but Project64 (N64), Snes , Megadrive, PSX etc all run fine. I just got Model 3 emulator working the other day with Oceanhunter finally with the lightgun bindings to mouse and keyboard. Citru and Cemu look promising and I particularly like that Sony Psp emulator . all good stuff anyway guys its taken ages to write all this stuff so I apologize if I missed anyone out today,I'll catch up with you next time
  5. Thanks for the reply's,very interesting ... I promise I'll pick these points up with you all at a later date. lovin' the reminis sorry I'm so tired right now, this little bird needs to sleep.
  6. Another Fantastic Maygay machine
  7. Hi Vectra, I just checked on wiki and it's confusing lol but Simon (trousers) Cowell's company is Syco (You're right) which has three main divisions – Syco Music, Syco TV and Syco Film but is not the same as the fruit machine manufacturer Syco-gaming which made the two popeye's and that keep calm & be lucky flyer i loaded up. I'm sure they made some others but not that many as far as i know and I think they've either been bought up by another company or gone bust sadly.
  8. Thanks for the interest shown guys ,and yes that clip of GTS does look very realistic indeed, thanks for the link Reg , makes my poor Outrun look like a Pc Engine game although I would say Im more of a Sharp X68000 type man myself. Yeh MPU_FIVE I agree, Outrun was brilliant, definitely a classic for shure and so is the little game we've got below. just check out this video of Space Harrier on the X68000 I would have loved to have owned one when they were released in 1987 but they were for the Japanese market only and cost a fortune I guess. However we did get the Sega Megadrive not long after, and I did buy a Nintendo Super Famicom one year before (SNES) arrived in the U.K (pilotwings)HAPPY DAYS INDEED. I never in my wildest dreams thought we'd reach the level of realism (Gran Turismo Sport) we have now so soon in relation to what the err....... very lowly zx 81 and spectrum could produce at the time, when I got into computing.Blips and 8 colours Although we laugh, there were some very good obscure games concepts on the spectrum... Quazatron ,LodeRunner,(did have a level creator), Everyone a wally ,Rollercoaster, Chuckie Egg 1 & 2, Turmoil, and how could I forget Manic Miner from Matt Smith. I think I cried when I played Hyper Sports and Yie-Ar-Kung-Fu because it JUST WAS NOT like the graphics sometimes shown on the back of those cassette box covers lol and dont get me started about the zx version of Outrun......I waited 4 months for that and when xmas day finally arrived I dont think Ive ever felt so disappointed. what was all that fast forwarding rewinding caper with the cassette deck jess. trying to load the right stage and the green road then putting a tape in for the music lol OH MY GOSH U.S GOLD NO NO NO JUST NO DONT PLEASE . I shouldn't mock really, they did the best they could at the time but I can't get those screenshot images of Outrun from the arcade version in C.R.A.S.H computer magazine , it's your fault . Anyway..............anyone remember POKES ? It really has just become so overwhelming with the amount of choice and stuff going on these days. There just is not enough hours in a lifetime to enjoy it all.I was reading the HTC hive VR thread where Reg you mentioned about (Future Pinball which is Fantastic ) being viewed in VR (now that's the future HERE right now, can you believe it,it's truly amazing) you probably already know but http://www.pinsimdb.org is a great site for FP. I do read up on advances in computing and I think once we get quantum cpus coming on-stream it will make all things before, look like a cake on a carpet. SORRY CHAPS I COULD CHAT ALL DAY ABOUT GAMES ETC There was a time way back on a game on the zx spectrum called Tai Pan ,a pirate themed jolly it was, where you walk around a town to pressgang crew members and buy ships but the snag was you didn't start with a lot of money. So one day walking at the back of town i stumbled across a sailors illegal gambling den where you could bet on these tiles with symbol thingies spinning on them with the low/highest odds return if the common/rarest tile won.And I bet all the cash on the rarest tile and of course it didnt win. However one lucky day when I tried, it won and I got loadsa money to spend to build my crew ,weapons, cannons and ship and of I sailed into the sunset............
  9. Hi all, found this a while back and if you're anything like me who is someone who got into video games way back when Taito and or Midway released Space invaders then you might like this just thought I'd let you all know, if you don't already, of a pretty cool Outrun remake or enhanced version called CannonBall - The Enhanced OutRun Engine and for those of you who even fancy creating your own tracks there's also a program called Layout here are the links :- https://github.com/djyt/cannonball/wiki/Cannonball-Manual https://github.com/djyt/layout/wiki http://reassembler.blogspot.co.uk/p/cannonball-open-source-outrun-engine.html now i can't provide the roms needed for obvious reasons but I'm sure you would be able to find them. I think it's the usual press 5 for credit, 1 for start etc your typical mame affair oh and a neat feature now incorporated is to change the view to a slightly higher vantage point by pressing left shift. Anyway it's all explained what you have to do on the websites above.
  10. well you had me stumped there for a bit,at first I thought a tune, then i cheated and searched and it came up with σ (Wfxxt + Wfmht−1 + bf ) from Attention to Describe Products with Attributes - MVA Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan lol but then silly me it dawned . yes now s.p.A.C.E what did we have to watch for again.....mmmm let me see Actually your clue, really makes sense now, on reflection.
  11. High Spirits by (Empire) Think there's a couple of DX of this but they're slightly different, the bottles are the other way down lol
  12. Yeah a DX of it would be great,I think there's a classic of it over on fruit-emu.Sorry I'm not familiar with the term WFMHT,what does that actually mean ? From the picture it looks like it would be a nightmare to know where to put the lamps. I only ever recall seeing this once in real life and from what I remember, I think on the board area, the trail round it was like a hidden white lamps kind of affair, hard to explain really but it wasn't as if you could see where you were going on it.............Or were there lamps in the spilled paint sections. There was definitely lamps on the right hand wall somewhere .It confused the hell out of me, how to play it ,that I do remember.

    American Dream

Another new one I never knew existed,It's so sad that in the past they created fantastic any theme or genre type machines and now we're stuck with Dond ,the first wave of dond was exciting and fresh but they just went overkill on it all.I think the tide is finally turning as people are fed of dond.I suppose there are a few exceptions to the themes but not at the rate we had in the past. cheers Reg for putting up these old fruit images.

Thanks Johnnyafc, I've never seen or knew about the machines you've uploaded.
  15. Good pic vectra666,this ones the second release of a Popeye by syco I think.I'm sure on the other first Popeye you needed to get on the reels, what are they called, life buoys safety ring things you throw at someone in the sea if they're drowning.
  16. Ah great thanks for letting me know wearecity, wasn't quite sure so I thought it better to ask.cheers
  17. Thanks for the conversions, are these for mfmev6 or which version should I use ? cheers
  18. Thanks Reg, your welcome, I think I found the pic by chance as I delved deep into google images not so long ago. I too would love to hear what the machine sounded like. I know it's probably nigh on impossible to ever find the sound rom but you never know, maybe one day hey.
  19. is that an elephant over there, don't like the look of that stampede square. gotta love those old fruities lol
  20. well now whats this old machine all about
