  1. Does anyone have the topbox sound software for any of the Electrocoin 3 player phoenix based games like Bar X OXO reels or similar? Cheers
  2. on the machines I have written the jackpots account for between 15 and 20% of the total wins for the machine. For the AWP market you need to balance the games to give the player a feeling they have had some entertainment for the money they have spent so this is the reason why you get the smaller wins a lot more often to keep them in the game. Club machines are probably in the 5-10% range

    Nudge Nudge

The patent expired about 20 years ago. I think it was only valid for 15 years. Nobody I know of has paid a royalty for years and there has been no text saying about the nudge patent for years either

    C64 Mini

if by hacked you mean plug in keyboard, press escape and you get the open source emulator menu then that's a hack even I could have found

    C64 Mini

A few others have been found to work. I kept finding that because they have mapped the small triangle button on top of the base to fire that you kept pressing it by accident when moving the stick
  6. How about Bomb Jack? 24 bombs have been placed at famous landmarks around the world and it is your job to collect them all

    C64 Mini

Joysticks are crap, the securing screw in the shaft is far too short and any heavy handedness on playing with the stick will cause it snap off in your hands ( (C) 2018 Carry on Retro Gamer )
  8. Slighty biased on this one as I did do some work for them but Martech produced a few decent games (check the high score table on Geoff Capes Strongman on the Spectrum ). But removing the rose tinted glasses I would have to say Ocean/Imagine for some of the best arcade conversions out there
  9. here are all versions released of Megabell and Turbo Megabell including the change log. You might have to convert the s28 file to bin though Megabell.zip
  10. Ah yes I forgot, the wonderful sticker on the glass that made it turbo and the three ??? to trigger the run. Got to love those decals as well. looks like its come straight out of the concept workshop I believe the jackpot sound was recorded in the grounds of Beverley Minster. Definitely Astra IO3 board though. I have the source code sat on the screen next to me with the FPGA equates file if its any use
  11. Concept games machine, Might have been listed as Megabell previously in the rom DAT
  12. I had one, you had to make sure you never had a disk in it when you turned it on or off as it was prone to corrupting the disk, infact they could corrupt just being in the drive and resetting it. There was only a handful of games built for Coupe mode (probably about the same as there was for native C128 mode) and mine spent most of the time in spectrum mode

    Commodore 64

and nobody has spotted its a Japanese version
  14. That will be either the CPC664 or CPC6128. The Amstrad never did much for me probably because of lazy programmers who basically ported the spectrum version over and left it running spectrum style graphics. The MSX was the birthplace to some franchises still running today like Metal Gear, Castlevania and Bomberman
  15. Does anyone else have a retro wish list as to a computer that back in the 80s you either bypassed or just didn't know about but now after playing some games via emulators you now think thats not a bad system and want to try and get hold of one? For me its the MSX. I knew of one friend that had one in the 80s and he got ripped into by the Commodore and Spectrum owners (as did the kid that owned an Aquarius but he deserved it ) but the few times I did have a go I was semi impressed by the Konami conversions on cartridge but there just seemed so few of them in the UK. Now with a hefty pack of roms I always seem to be drawn to the MSX games when I fancy something different and now realise that there was a lot more available than I thought. Trouble is MSX2 computers (the 2 has better graphics) seem to be fairly rare in the UK and any that do come up seem to go for high prices. But one day I will get hold of one for the collection
  16. The Vic was my first computer and I think I had pretty much everything that came out on it by the time I upgraded to the C64. Commodore had their own version which was just called Blitz or Super Blitz on the C64 which had the added bonus of King Kong would appear on top of some of the buildings at random

    Maze Death Rally-X

I wonder if they could do the same with rally x as they did with pacman on the spectrum? I know they have a full emulated version of pacman running on a spectrum 128 using original pacman roms and as rally X also uses a z80 with the same sound chip it might be possible. Namco produced the game in Japan but Midway released it in North America and thats where the confusion sets in, Pacman was the same
  18. FME trivia:- The naming of the full graphic layouts using real machine artwork was called a DX because of this emulator. At the time I did Viva Espana every layout was in the classic style and I had been playing EmuDX and thought the graphical enhancement to the FME layouts were fitting of the DX label and its stuck ever since. I think MikeDX who wrote emuDX was also around on the FME sites at the time as well
  19. How about New York Blitz where you control a plane over the Manhattan skyline and you have to bomb the skyscrapers so you can land your plane and if you don't you end up flying your plane into the side of one of the skyscrapers. Im sure the building on the cover looks like the World Trade Centre
  20. If you have access to a 3d printer there is a slightly more elegant case solution which doesnt involve killing a Microdrive case (most retro forums you would be shot for modding a case like that to put a pi in ) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2157795 and I use this image https://www.arcadepunks.com/kinguyrons-loaded-zx-spectrum-pi-image-simply-austin-zx-spectrum-base-first-look/ which comes with everything fully loaded and ready to play. Not sure how well it works with the "real" spectrum keyboard though

    The Problem with SID

just looked into this 9v AC issue and found this bit of info The 9volt is present to get the 60Hz cycle for the 6526 TOD clocks I believe, and for sure I know it is rectified on the board to 9v DC or12 v DC for the SID chip i.e. if your 9v AC goes crazy its bye bye SID chip hence everyone saying SID tested

    The Problem with SID

the SIDs are the same as any old chip, really need a heat sink putting on them to protect them. The biggest issue with the C64 is the PSU. The 9v ac has been seen as high as 15v volts and the 12v and 5v DC can go to crazy values as well. If you want to risk the original PSU then get a power saver
