Why not? I've seen emulations of Count Ya Cash and It's Amazing

They were both released as MPU5, and possibly MPU6 too. There was a crossover period where some machines were released on both platforms.

I had a Can You Dig It and I can't remember if it was MPU5 or MPU6. Part of me is confident it was MPU5 in which case it should be possible to run in MFME - but my memory could be playing tricks on me (it was a while ago now, must be a good 10+ years or so!!). There was a Star Wars clone of it which definitely runs.

The problem would be though that even if it was an MPU5 release, you'd need to have the MPU5 ROMs available. If they aren't available it's not possible.

is there an emulator that reads zip files rather than extracting them im new to this and looking to have a bit of fun on some of the old machines i remember#

If you are referring to fruit machines then no, you need to extract the files from the ZIP archive :)

  3. So, I've got my cabinet running nicely with physical lit buttons.

However, I'm planning on sorting out coins in/out at some point.

I've read a lot of issues on previous threads regarding hoppers not working due to them not sharing a common ground with other components (iPAC, PACdrive, e.t.c.).

I'm currently using a teeny little PC with separate external PSU (basically it's a laptop AC adapter).

Now, this is probably stupid and completely wrong so I will ask some of you electrical types before blowing myself and the machine up... I'm using the original mains supply inside the cabinet (basically it's 5 or 6 IEC sockets). This has an earth harness connected.

Could I use that existing earth harness as a common ground for the hopper? Or is that dangerous and/or utterly stupid? I assume since every other device is connected to that single point (albeit via IEC plugs) that might act as a common ground?

  4. Little bit of progress on this one :

    1) Gave the hoppers to Spa (might need the metalwork back in the future if I attempt to do coins in/out with a Universal hopper... or not! Will depend on if and when I go the payout route, and if I use an old Universal hopper or use an Azkoyen...)

    2) Have today installed a PACdrive and iPAC to run buttons and lamps - all is working correctly!

I was planning on installing the amplifier and getting sound working today, but that'll have to wait 'til tomorrow as I'm going to switch the PC in it for one with a 3.5mm output and put the Alienware Alpha back in the front room.

Oh, forgot to mention, I got the touchscreen working fine too, was just a case of finding the manufacturer of the panel and luckily they still make Windows 10 drivers. Using the calibration software in the driver package I was able to calibrate the screen for portrait mode - that's another issue sorted!

I'll probably share some pics of my dodgy wiring and stuff tomorrow. A bit knackered now though :)

    Hi everyone

Is there a way of REALLY slowing the cpu down on a mpu5 game? I want to slow it down to see the lamp sequences in attract mode very slowly!!

I have tried in debug mode stop then step or fast step but it seems to step through the program but doesn't update the main layout which stays frozen as it was when stop was pressed

    Any help would be good!

    Many thanks

    Andrew

It's one feature that while I can see why Chris removed it, I used quite a lot in the old days. You could try a much older version of MFME but that wouldn't be much help if you needed to run more recent ROMs. I can't remember when variable speed was removed, it was probably around the days of the old 'hacked' / leaked versions of the emulator (v9.4?).

I've used Cheat Engine as shown above but it does something odd sometimes, I've had games freeze, lock up, had garbled sound, e.t.c.

    Thats odd, mine has one

... yeah, I just checked mine and turns out it does have one too! I was convinced it didn't.

I'd be surprised if the hopper in yours is actually faulty. Have you done the usual - taken it apart, cleaned it e.t.c.?

I've lost count of how many times I've found random screws, nuts, bolts, and random odds and ends in the hoppers :D

  7. I'm a bit busy today but am determined to get this touchscreen working... First thing I'll do is get the Interplay image loaded up and see what drivers it uses and hope there is a Windows 10 version of those drivers.

I totally forgot that I'd ordered an amplifier last night too. Just a basic one which runs on RCA and 3.5mm in.

Of course I've just checked the Alpha and it doesn't have a 3.5mm output... so I might have to dig out an old DAC or get a little USB powered DAC to use with it.

... Should have just paid more and got an amp and DAC combined :D

    (another edit - 16:15 on 12/04/23)

I do have some spare old computer bits... I'm wondering if I just sell the Alpha on and use some of my old bits. I've an old AMD (pre-Ryzen) with iGPU, mATX form factor, and an old Xeon 6 core which is ATX.

The Alpha is a lovely, cute little machine which I could pretty much velcro in to the case. But it's so tied down. With a normal case I can chop / change and experiment more.

    Hmmm...

Well, one of my T7s has a hopper fault, think the 10p one..... so might be useful to swap bits off

The Interplay doesn't have a 10p hopper, so not sure how much use it would be :(

Back to the Interplay - I've put the PC in and have been playing about in Windows, and I've hit a bit of a snag.

The touchscreen only works correctly in landscape mode (which doesn't look right, as obviously this machine had the screen mounted in portrait mode).

If I change the display output in Windows to portrait mode, then graphics and things display correctly - but then the touchscreen doesn't function correctly (it acts as though the screen is still in landscape - see attached vid for example).

I can't get it to calibrate in Windows when in portrait mode either.

This is running on Windows 10 on the Alienware Alpha, so a sort of PC / laptop hybrid of sorts. Wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue with screen orientation and touchscreens before and might have a suggestion.

Can I have the interplay hopper? lol

Possibly, but I did eff up the socket in the cabinet (well, didn't eff it up, but surprised they'd soldered and heatshrink rather than just using spade connectors. I just snipped the loom at that point).

The hopper is unaffected. Pretty sure it's just a single £1 universal hopper without the 10p hopper you normally get in a T7, not sure if that'll be an issue for you?

  10. So my T7 PC died, and since the Interplay was... Well... a bit like a low-budget T7, I decided to take the guts out and keep them for spares. I'll use the PC for my other T7, the MPU6 for the same (but it'll need different software), and the Vega note acceptor / recycler for one of my Astra cabinets. Can't say I haven't got my value out of it.

I've kept the looms and things intact - albeit removed - but can't see me converting it back at any point. The only wiring left in place is for the monitor, PC power, earth, that kind of thing. Interplay had about 22 games in total, with my HASP having 5 licenses. Nothing special really apart from Hot Hot Hot £70, Crackpot Jackpots which was basically a £70 version of the RR with shots and bonus gambles, and Shanghai Surprise which I believe was like It's Amazing but also on £70.

So I'll be turning the Interplay cabinet, now gutted, into an MFME cabinet.

    It's got a few positives -

7 physical buttons. The originals were RGB LED but I can't think of an easy way to implement that, so I'll be sticking which white LEDs and possibly adding decals or coloured acrylic or similar.

It's already got a rather large (32" I believe) touchscreen. Not sure of resolution but probably only 1366x768. I'm really only planning on running lo-techs anyway!

It's currently got an SR5e coin mechanism in, however I assume that - when I go for coins in/coins out, it should be an easy swap for an old Cashflow / MARS mech, whichever is best.

It's lovely and roomy inside. As you can see in the photo, it opens up and you can pretty much climb inside.

All I've done so far is get the cabinet in the house and gut it, but as I do little bits and bobs I'll update the thread :)

    ... (edit 17:15 11/04/23)

Have decided to shove my old Alienware Alpha desktop in it. It's small, it works, it has decent graphics and CPU, but is a bit old hat now.

Only teeny issue being that to use the existing kettle plug inside to power it, I've had to order a kettle plug to cloverleaf adapter... grand total of £3.50 delivered by Kenable.

I could make one myself, but since I only have moulded plugs, it wouldn't be tidy.

I can still test it for now though. Also the PC will eventually be mounted in a more solid manner... but since it's so small and light, I'm just going to hang it in place for now!

One quirk of the Alpha is that it has optical digital output. So I might buy a cheap little DAC and AMP, and use the original speakers built in to the cabinet. They sounded pretty decent to me, might as well use them!

Thats the one, thanks mate. Thats a shame, really good basic game. Playing in skeg last month, the wife heard it say "im going crazy", then literally span in wins for 30-35 spins

No worries! Was it in the Harris Amusements? Last time I was there (a while back) they had quite a few Fair Games upstairs along with all the old Bar X flat top cabs.

I love to have a proper session on one of them and try and get the Crazy Money streak out of one but I'm too scared incase it takes hours and like £100 despite only being 10p play!

Hi guys has anyone every played this machine. Itss one of those 2 holds and win jobby. Basically, Bars are a £5, then 7s then bells then melons. To get the feature you need 3 coins in a row(not overlayed) actual; coins then does a win streak. Is this emulatable?

The one in thinking of is a Fair Games machine?  See attachment for Cherry Win Falls but it sounds like the game you are thinking of. If so I'm afraid not.

I'm sure they run on Pluto but is either some unemulated version of Pluto 5, or Pluto 6 which isn't emulated at all.

    Hi all,

Interested in exploring adding a coin hopper to my setup. I have read that the most recommended plug and play type to buy is a parallel Azkoyen hopper. A couple of quick questions:

Do you recommend trying to find one second hand - as I can't seem to find one new?

What would be the need for 2 or more hoppers?

    Thanks!

Regarding spares, new is always prohibitively expensive for hobbyists anyway - so even if you could buy new I'm not sure it's recommended!

I still haven't sorted out coins for my MFME cab plan yet. But I'm going the single hopper route - it'll only pay out one denomination of coins.

That's no good for older machines, which typically pay multiple denominations (say 20p, or 20p token, as well as £1). Or some seaside machines which might have a 10p hopper alongside a £1 hopper to pay smaller wins :)

Hence why I assume people run dual hoppers :)

I don't have the roms, I have looked but may be able to source them if they aren't too old but as I said earlier I would need some kind of image of the machine for reference, this doesn't have to be hi res, a thumbnail would do.

  15. I've never used a frontend for MFME, so I'll ask a (probably stupid) question :)

Is this for people running cabinets - if so does it support portrait mode as that is what my current plans involved... or is it aimed at those of us running Windows and looking for a pretty way to load layouts?

Also, I tried going to the website linked in your forum sig but I couldn't get it to work -

Ah, that's weird. Machines were almost always released with £5 options. Not sure why they didn't do one for it, but then again it wasn't a good game anyway.

Wtf has happened to the glasses on that UYR?!

It runs on Stealth Tech, though, which isn't emulated.

Normally happens when stored in a conservatory or similar with direct sunlight on it for long periods of time.

Also happens to most of the later Barcrest Horizon cabinet releases due to some amazing self-destructing artwork technique they came up with.

  17. Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but fancied trying something else tonight - Random Reel Magic by Concept, also on the £70 jackpot at 50p play. Lovely DX by @dad in the Legacy area. It'll alarm and require a reset on first boot due to no RAM, so it plays from a reset.

Different style of game - standard 3 win plan similar to Bar X 7even, but with a wild on the middle reel. Follows the 'no losing holds or nudges' formula used by most (if not all) of the Electrocoin '7s' games, unlike Random Gold which has 4 wins, no 'wild', and plenty of losing holds or nudges.

Anyway - from a reset it's playing a nice game. I've just stuck £250 in and come away with £225, and that was with me refusing wins and a few other random things.

Amazing that there's such a difference between the machines when both are played from a reset. This one is at bang on 90% now. Not sure what the machine is set to, but most Concept Random titles seem to be hardcoded at 90%, normally included in the artwork printed on the glass and so can't be varied.

OMG so I have just having a bash on the £5 Jackpoteers emulator when I realised it contains the POT sound effect (sample 132) from Rainbow riches. It got me thinking how many sound bites in the newer machines today were ripped from old machines from the day ?

you would have thought that they would have come up with new sounds but then again the classic effects are actually the best anyway.

There's quite a few occasions of machine sounds appearing in different machines, by different manufacturers - presumably they were taken from a library of stock sounds.

A bit off topic, but I often get a jolt when I noticed old sound effects from games, films e.t.c. being used in adverts, TV shows, e.t.c.

It's like the sounds are buried deep in my brain and hearing them reawakens something :D

I've heard the Doom door-opening sound effect used in an advert recently, and a Wilhelm scream used in an advert in the past few weeks.

Can you please give a short description of what happens when it goes on a run? It's okay if it's just on the emulator, don't go do it for real and film it or nothing I don't want anyone to lose money.  Funny that this thread mentions concept games being shit and tight, as the 'Dance with a Devil' emulator layout gives exactly the same game play over and over again when the ram is cleared.  I have no idea why it does this, but it's exactly the same reels and the same game including a Jackpot in no time at all after a ram reset.  I agree that in real life, these machines are deadly in a bad mood, I've known people on the £100 versions lose over a grand and walk away with nothing but broken pride, empty pockets, and an angry and upset empty feeling, swearing never to do it again, I guess they do though, because the dream world capacity of gambling obliterates bad memories, sadly like myself we come back, dream greater dreams and in turn suffer more misery.  But doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is like madness, is it not?  That is what I think anyway.  I agree with Slots Magic, a few quid here and there and walk off.  Maybe have a go on a £100 money mad mushrooms on a T7 instead.  If you get robbed by these pick the right hand side for the repeat, if you don't get robbed and get a £100 quick, it's often the left mushroom for the repeat.  Just from experience, this is how I have worked them out.  Not always the case tho, but had results doing this :)  Please note though that for new bees to the scene, T7 games ARE NOT EMULATED.  Just for reference, I personally don't gamble for real money anymore and have not done for quite some time.  Never gamble to escape from worry or trouble, when your upset and things are not going well.  Only ever gamble with money YOU can AFFORD to lose.  Never chase losses.

It's pretty obvious really, as with most machines on a run. So if it's not in the mood, you'll probably find you are putting in £20 for a maximum £5/£10 back. Rinse and repeat.

When it's on a run, it's the opposite. You'll be collecting £5 from the bank, putting it back in, and getting a £5 or more return from it. Then you'll find the wins are holding, it'll be whistling (giving extra nudges and flashing the win available from the extra nudges in the 7 seg displays), and generally very happy. Of course getting a few more wins is no guarantee it's on a 'proper' roll, you'll only know that if you persist - and if it's not a proper roll, it'll soon die again.

The run in my video started as usual, me putting in a tenner or so. That tenner ended up with a £20>£30 bank from what I recall, and one of the wins was a whistle for £20 xXx. So I thought I'd carry on. Very quickly the bank was up to £95, still from that initial tenner in (albeit I would have collected a little bit from the bank since it doesn't have a transfer option on the one I play).

A basic explanation of the run will be that it'll be more generous, give more frequent holds after nudges (let 'em spins), and then normally throw in a jackpot, and this often holds. If the jackpot doesn't hold I'd definitely carry on with at least another £10 in as it'll often still be happy enough to give other wins, and the jackpot will probably come back. Walk when you feel that there is no more life in it. Say £10 without a win.

I seem to recall the jackpot in this clip, from a hold after nudge, didn't hold - but it came back shortly after, and then a £10 XXX win that held twice for another £30, a few other bits. The total will have been about £250 profit. Last tenner or so I played through did bugger all, so I walked.

As for T7s - they can be just as brutal. I own 2, and a bunch of other digital slots. The Betcom T7 and Vegas Strip can also be very brutal, but the Vegas Strip often does a triple jackpot (so £300 win), and the Betcom did a £100 + £300 top for £400 out on the Electrocoin OXO Reels game shortly after I got it.

One thing I love with Concepts and other volatile slots - things like Ultra Hot - is I've genuinely lost count of how many quick hits I've had. Concept Magic 10 near me recently, £2 in, 3rd press was a hold for 7s for £100. Didn't hold, moved on. Loads of times I've put in a couple of quid and had a quick BAR win for £30, sometimes it's held.. Ultra Hot? I've forgotten how many times I've had a first or second press for a full screen for £80.

But - get involved with them and that's when things can get dangerous. The softer profile £100 jackpots can be bad at the wrong time - they typically save up for a £200 (jackpot + hold) and then normally say £30 before and £60 after. You should still get wins even in a bad mood, but might be looking a £30 in for £10 back to give you an idea. But some 3rd party software kits are absolutely lethal and if you want a softer game I'd steer well clear. I learned my lesson on that last month. Put an absolutely stupid amount into a £1 / £100 by a company I wasn't aware of. I assumed it would be the same, or a similar profile to what I was used to.

Turns out it's not, and it's a ROM designed for the B3 player - it saves up for an insane run. Put simply, I walked at £700 down, knowing it could have cost me another £700 to get that back. A hard decision to make, but ultimately a lesson learned.

    • Thanks 1
  20. I found that TARG setting when I was playing with the existing Bar X 7even layout earlier which is running Concept £10/£15/£25 software. It's weird classing a hopper limit as 'target'. Does make me wonder if it might relate to streak potential... but at the same time I'm not sure :S

so after 2300 in, i called it a night - then fired it up this morning - to my horror, the dreaded ram reset bug - it was flashing and beeping, and low and behold my stats had been wiped even though mfme meters were still showing 2300 in for 1600 out.

Thank fuck i've been backing up my gam and ram files so i'm back to it's previous state of 2026 in for 1500 out.

And  for this two grand in... i've only had 3 jackpots.

People have been saying this machine is brutal, they're not wrong, but this is just stupid. I've no idea how or even if it will get to it's 86% payout when it's about 600-700 quid behind

There's a chap I've bought machines from in the past - he had one which I believe was from a reset and it played terribly for the first £1250 or so, before it started waking up, and even then he didn't get a good roll. Probably a sales tactic from Concept - 'We guarantee that the machine will pay for itself over the first few thousand credits'*

His YouTube channel is Slots of Fun.

In seriousness the one near me plays a good game - doesn't seem to get much play so I give it a week since I've last rolled it and try a ten or maybe twenty see if it's waking up. If not I leave it and try a week later.

Either they take a VERY long time to settle down, or the one near me is a different ROM profile or revision. I'm not sure if Random Gold has different profiles - I know some Concept software is switchable between 'hard' and 'soft'. Maybe my local one is a soft profile.

Definitely odd machines though, and apart from my local one I certainly wouldn't play one with more than a tenner. Not worth the risk of it having been RAM reset or similar.

Trouble with the local arcade in question is that they only float hoppers with about 30 quid, so a massive pain to get involved, not a smooth session as i used to do the Magic7 and even when they refloat they literally put max 50, too much hassle as you can easily make a ton on a ram reset if you play it out!!

    J

Had that today on Random Gold in the local, £10 in for £250 odd out. Only thing is they only float with £100... so had to refill it 3 times for me. With a mech that doesn't accept 2016 onwards £1 coins. Took bloody ages, but then I let them off, had a decent roll on the Bar X 7even and the Diamond 7 both times while waiting.

Recorded it doing a let 'em spin on £70 and stopped recording before the first IOU. Didn't have a jackpot hold but had another jackpot shortly after and I'm pretty sure another one... If not it's my memory playing up. in any case it was a decent result.

(Sod it, here's the shit clip I took. As per the title ignore the creepy gloves, I have to wear them due to coin allergies.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/5eCFisZ7gbI?feature=share )

It's a strictly no phone arcade and I don't want to piss them off!

Random Gold is a brutal machine - so I play it like a lottery. Few quid here or there, hope it kicks off a streak, if not then walk. You can't get involved in chasing them. I mean I have, but it's never ended well, so it takes discipline to walk away, which I do now. There's a few indicators that it's warming up. I find the hardest thing is knowing when to walk when it's on a run!

Has someone on here got the real machine that can test the roms and see what it is like?

Afraid not, I'd love a Random Gold but haven't got one yet, and I feel the Double Up is a rarer version. No idea if the ROMs could just be plopped into a normal Electrocoin board or if you'd need a different security chip to go with it.
