I was wondering about this today and found this bit of info,

https://www.casino.org/blog/fruit-machines-got-fruit-symbols/

I never knew how it came about, or where the first slot originated from,

but I do now and it's quite interesting.you might be surprised to learn about it.xD

Also as a side point, today, I caught site of a slot, by a manufacturer, close to my heart, which I was surprised to learn were in the slot machine business now.Only because I love there games and I stumbled across a familiar image to me ,the Moai ,

that smoke ring blowing baddy from the Incredible  Gradius 1,2,3,4,& 5  series, and even the not much known about Nemesis 90'kai version on the sharp x68000. I love Shmups and have played almost everyone ever created commercial and fanmade.

Love the Castlevania series,Goeman series ,Yie ar kung fu etc etc as well, just a fantastic company.

The company is a familiar one to many and it's Konami, perhaps the American division created this slot as opposed the main Japanese HQ.

the slot is called Great Moai and here's a couple of pics. There are a couple of You-tube videos of Americans playing them in the casinos.

sorry about the mixed thread but as you know , I am besotted with GAMES of all types, be it Fruit,Video,Pinball,Simulators, anything fun really..

The art of the fruit machines has so much to answer for TBH.

Before I had my couple of T7 machines, it was Rainbow Riches that did it for me at service stations.  The art and the way it all feel together was just awesome.  Now I could say the same for Monty Python as well, one of the earlier T7 / Rio games.

That being said - if you replaced the graphics on those machines with say Barbie Dolls for Matel, would I play - simply not.

Those easter egg heads look too freaky !

those Moai are from Polynesia - Easter Island  (Rapa Nui)

yeah I think across all the genres Film,tv,video games, comics, board games, icons, music etc all cross borrow from each other.

and feed into a constant ever evolving organic platform.

Barcrest have really adopted the "Irish Themed" genre and it works exceptionally well for them.wish I could win a gold pot though lol.

we've seen it with fruits for example with coronation street, indiana ,tombraider, and Monty Python as you stated, and  resident evil crossing over into film.we may start to see things like "Assassins Creed or Hitman or I'd love Black Adder The Fruit machine" or "Gradius" the movie for me haha .It really is limitless.

There are so many variables from the above but also imaginative ones that haven't even been conceived of yet.

if I could I'd create a fruit machine with all the frolics that happen in a simple English country garden for example "just imagine Bramble Streak, Lawn Mower Mayhem or Washing line winnings,Thorn bush wilds,Rockery Riches etc Patio pounds, pegs a plenty . It just goes on ad infinitum. It would have been so much fun but I think in todays world my idea just wouldn't work.as it doesn't have that "cool edge" so to speak. I have to laugh at today's state of affairs with re "being cool"  on the "gram" selfies etc ,well I won't go into all that here.xD

I did imagine once of a trial bike style fruit-machine where the bike speedily physically zips up the board with "loud exhaust comical rev" sound effect and stops abruptly on cash or feature squares up the board.it would have been a hoot.

also I imagined with today's lighting computer technology led based reels with  symbols that glow luminous green red blue etc and really flashy lighting computer effects on the play board area.nothing like to what we've seen as yet but you never know.all in good time I should expect.

I could sit there all day imagining ,it's endless.

I think with Barbie she could have been used as a ploy to reel in the untapped younger female audience but in saying that, all the lasses I used to chat to next to me on a machine or around the arcade if you suggested that idea, would have given me short thrift in no time lol.

and that's putting it lightly but to be fair there were some really nice girls/ladies I've met along the way,and some real beauties back in the day.I can remember one in particular, a nice petit blonde bit with blue eyes, but sadly that's not up for today's discussion :P
