  1. Man I am looking forward to the day that this project is complete, I mean it's got loads of potential just in the pre-alpha I've played, and then when it's done... Who knows where this could go? Ticket redemption games? Foreign Games? Custom Games?! While I don't expect... at all that you'd implement those, you're already doing a lot for AWPs and Video Games (I mean you've got that longest-running forum thread on Desert Island Fruits for *PANG* sake), the potential is still and will always be there.

Been looking at more text reel stuff - can now just about play the (slightly unusual) Graffiti using MAME internal layout:

Lookin' fine if you ask me. The layout of the lights and everything makes sense... neat! I suspect once you establish a connection between Arcade Simulator and MAME's fruit machines you'll be switching everything over to be 100% MAME.

  3. Here's a free alternative (OPTISouvenir-Bold):
    https://www.whatfontis.com/FF_OPTISouvenir-Bold.font

Also here's a tip, most fruit machine manufacturers used fonts from what I like to call the OPTI series because every single one starts with OPTI.

    Here are some examples

When it comes to western fruit machines like Lucky Strike (Mk 1 & 2) the font used is called "OPTIRodeo", Red Dog Saloon is the paid version of OPTIRodeo.
Barcrest used the font "OPTIBevis-Extra" on a bunch of their fruit machines but most prominently on their Eliminator game.
Finally the font used on JPM's Casino Crazy number reel is "OPTIChartresGothic-Bold".

Here's my single player pusher, similar to the magic 7 one much earlier in this thread.

You can have this if you think it may be useful too you down the line?

Bruh, this project's already nuts with the addition of arcade games, adding in coin pushers would be downright ridiculous! Especially with how much memory simulated ones can take if the coins are a 1 to 1 scale with the real ones, there would be so many entities that even the most basic-looking coin pushers could lag a computer!

  5. Ahh nice to be back in your damn impressive arcade! Sure there's some screen rotation issues but you more than the monitor power cycling seems to have been fixed AND we've now got MAME machines added... ALL WITH SOUND! It actually sounds like an arcade from the 80s a time which I never got to experience!

If you don't mind, I think I'll dub this virtual arcade JP SAFE Amusements (JP standing for John Parker and the SAFE standing for Several Arcade & Fruit Emulation)

Quick in editor demo of generated machines with marquees, various hacks and bugs to sort out...

HOW MANY MACHINES?! AND ALL MAKING SOUND?!?!

This is so good it's ridiculous.

Yeah, and that could be an understatement especially with how much potential this project shows!

Good job @johnparker007! This is at the very least a new step in emulation, and at most... an emulation platform!

This is down to the unstable (for some) window scraping and/or dll injection I have to use to use MFME for the fruit machine emulation.

When this happens, if you Alt-Tab, and switch to the MFME window in the background, and close/force close that process.

Then in ArcadeSim, press escape to exit the machine.

Then try the machine again - does it happen every time?

I seem to recall there was an issue on your machine, to do with not having permission to write a particular file - speedhack2.dll?

If the machines are doing this every time, if you could click up in the topleft corner 3 times, it will bring up a debug console - please post a screenshot of that here, it may provide some clues - ta :)

Okay, it seems all I had to do was let a machine boot fully (slowdown and all) and the problem is mostly resolved, there's still some slowdown, but it's negligible. (Thanks for the advice regardless though)

  8. Is it just me? Or is this thread blurring the lines between Desert Island Fruits and the Gentlemen's Pixel Club? Failure to work aside, this project is outright incredible! First UK fruit machines, now Foreign fruit machine, then 80s Arcade games?! What's next? Rhythm Games? (Pop 'n' Music) Fighting Games? (Street Fighter) Racing Games? (Outrun) Medal Games? (Dragon Treasure III) If SEGA notices this project and it's potential I'm sure the future will be very bright!

lol I take it it's gone back to doing the 'black screen of death' at startup again!  Presumably if you do the 3x clicks in the top-left corner to pull up the debug console, it is back to having the Sharing Violation Error message on the speedhack2.dll file?

I may have to TeamViewer in to work on this one further...

yep... that's exactly what it's come down to. When's a good time for you to TeamViewer?

bear with me @bionic_beast got Xmas drinking going on for a few days ;)  But I will get onto this.  Plan going forward is probably getting the 5-6 new machines plus perhaps around 7 other in a new patch (hopefully before NYE) - then I'll do another pass at trying to solve these compatibility issues - we'll get there :)

I hope so, though what will buy you more time is the fact that I'm heading over to Sydney on holiday for (hopefully) 2 weeks.

Are you signed up to extreme gamstop or have a child lock on your pc for any gambling sites haha! Humour may help with the stress!!

It do seem like dat doe

Jokes aside, I don't really have any intentions on playing online slots because A. before Degsy shut down his YouTube channel he was my way of seeing the RTP fall live, and B. I see online slots as the same generic CTRL+C CTRL+V game... over and over and over.

Not sure if you’ve tried this, I was getting a blank screen on AS, earlier in this thread JP posted a regedit fix that worked for me.  It was some file(s) in a folder named gyrox, not sure on the details but maybe search this thread for gyrox keyword, might work for you?

    J

Thanks for the suggestion, but for all this good it does me because for some reason the folder doesn't exist in my download.image.thumb.png.b5406b1bf39270993ab4ba8907b99791.png

  13. @johnparker007...still, black screening.

I'm sorry if this is (and most likely) getting annoying on your end, but after a 2nd uninstall-reinstall I'm still getting the black screens.

I was originally going to ask when would be a good time to go to TeamViewer, but i realised as I was typing this message, I could try a 3rd uninstall reinstall and video the whole process. Here is that video:

Bear with me, you are not alone in this issue! - I have another user with it too (exact same error message).

I've actually done a patch (well about ten while I've been working on this bug haha :) ) with a slight change to the order of some file operations... if you get chance if you could just launch Arcade Sim, it will update a couple of patches to the latest, but then if you could let me know if the issue is now fixed (unlikely, but there's a slim chance it now starts up ok).

If the issue is not fixed - could you please could post a screenshot - after it has got stuck, and you've done the 'clicking in the top-left corner of screen 3 times' procedure to bring up the debug window.  The messages on the window may give further clues now that I've changed the order of those file operations, and added some extra debugging info.

And thanks for the chance of TeamViewer - much appreciated :) ...if I get well and truly stuck, it's been a good route in the past for spotting an issue's root cause, some things are difficult to diagnose from afar.

Ah, lovely, I just booted up Arcade Simulator and...

Black Screen! (is this the new red screen from the Atari Jaguar CD?)

    Anyways, here's the debug log:

  15. If there's one thing I've learned from subreddits like r/facepalm and r/there was an attempt; it would be the internet in general is really stupid, as it mainly consists of young teenagers which will get offended at anything... myself included in a sense.

These people vary in pretty much the same way you described from the insecure people just trying to threaten you for the sake of doing so just to make themselves feel more powerful than a old guy (like really kid? that's just not fair), these people can be easily avoided. But then there's the other side of the coin, the hackers, these kids are just waiting for the right information to drop so that they can effectively dox you, and from what I remember from your videos the info you let loose could be enough for someone to dox you, THAT'S where things get serious. Now luckily enough from what you've said no one's doxed you but that doesn't mean that hacking an account is a small thing, it isn't, and your Google account at that? (who doesn't use Google)

While I'm not exactly happy with your decision overall as it feels a bit nuclear (extreme), I can understand why you did it in the first place. It's situations like these that make me wish that YouTube had some form of privacy setting in-between "public" and "unlisted" where initially they would show up as a private video showing the message "you need to become a member for this channel to see it's content" note that the threshold to becoming a member doesn't have to be a monetary contribution, it could be say a constantly changing password which you PM to someone over say DIF, or it could be a series of questions guided towards FME, that's just my theory but it feels a heck of a lot better than getting rid of dislikes.

Anyways, it's sorry to see the channel go, but as people were basically one step away from doxing you, your hands were practically tied.
