  1. The FME scene used to have a 3 year rule where we couldn't emulate new machines, well Yuzu were giving patches to the new Zelda game 2 weeks before official release cos it was leaked, BUT that was behind a paywall, (Patreon) then Super Mario Wonder was leaked, cant blame them TBH

Soft shite / Get a grip / Sob story alert.  If you've never been affected by gambling, drink and drugs, don't read.

Not read any of the replies since the 10th (I'll catch up shortly, so I apologise if I'm repeating what others have said).

    @Chopaholic

Watched the low ebb vid, reading back my notes, I've written "same" 37 times.  In a few places I find it upsetting.  For you, or me, or both, or any other gambler, I don't know.

Mine was almost identical, to the point where I'm thinking something mental like am I you, or are you me?

Only slight difference, I passed the first year at uni, then did the same as you, only in year two, from September to January.

When you mentioned the catologue, I almost fell off my chair.  I got a Great Universal one, and here's the thing, had no income whatsoever.  Bought things I could easily sell, VCRs, Tellys, etc.

Oh and same with Natwest, yes you can have a £400 overdraft, cheques for cash at the tillers.

The "long weekend thing", started out, 1989, September, 18th birthday, I'm taken out on the pop, we go clubbing, had the night of my life.  Few months later, I find some other mates who do this on a Saturday, so joined them.  Then as @Geddy will know, there was Tuesday night snooker in the club, joined the snooker team.  Wednesday was pool night, followed my mates who played in the team home and away.  Thursday night, darts and doms, home and away.  Sunday and Monday, there'd be cards going on, a turn, strippers or whatever.  So it quickly turns into a 7 day session.

Friday/Saturday nights never played the bandits, but on every other night I did, and in the daytime.

The lies, the getting on the 141/159/161/220/535 (one for Geddy, or Alth), on the morning, bye I'm off to uni, get into Sunderland.  Get the bus or train to Shields, Seaburn, Newcastle, Whitley Bay with 6 cans, and be pissed by 9am and ready to play.  And lose.  And walk home, 15-25 miles because I didn't have a free pass or the fare home.  Did that twice from Newcastle.  That's Newcastle to Houghton Le Spring.  Many times from Seaburn to Houghton Le Spring.  Look it up, it's a canny hike.

The relationships fucked up, the chances fucked up as well.  I remember being in a club and watching the bandits waiting for players to come off, being chatted up by lasses, and I'd tell them "our lass is in the other room" so they'd leave me alone, so I was ready to jump on when someone had finished playing.

Bodily functions, I've pissed myself lots of times playing, shit meself only once, which is enough.  On the bus home, everyone saying what's that smell, as lump comes out of my trouser leg.  Ruined a good pair of Chinos, the smell never really left after many washes.

Next 25+ years, pretty much continue to do the same.

Roll forward to April 2019, I'm at AA, and am drink and drug free.  Then came covid.  Then came last August.  When I read the news here, I thought what do I do?  I should have called my support network at AA, or my support at the NY Mental Health crisis team.  But no, I know better obviously.  I go on 6 weeks sick off work, drinking heavily every day, and signed up accounts with Sky Vegas, Casumo, Dream Vegas, and The Sun.  £2 stake.  Win loads in a couple of days.  Few grand up.  Lose that.  And more.  Then September/oct/nov, I spunk away each pay packet, can't pay rent, bills, DD, standing orders etc.  3 times get bailed out by my dad.  Had another trip to James Cook in Boro, not good.  Only then, In November, I realise after 30+ years of gambling, I look into my dads eyes, and see a frail, old man; the torment my life has placed on my parents hits me.  So I stop.  Sign up with Gamstop on a 5 year total ban from everywhere.

7 months on, still drinking everyday, but am gambling free.

    Mate,

I am 51 and probably similar age to you, so sad, i will post my story one day, went to GA in the early days, and all we talked about was the wins out of the allotted  time, then it was denial, I feel you have to hit ROCK BOTTOM, before you do something, I believe i hit 2 times, lost my house, then lost my partner.

I know this is an emulation site and all that , but maybe @REG can maybe have a separate section for this stuff.

    Excellent !

I'll try to get another video done over the weekend doing different games and such ( plus the missing Amiga ). :)

I always have trouble with Amiga, end up binning everytime, had launchbox, coin ops but cos of different disks it goes pear shaped! and i grew up with an Amiga (50 now) so pinball dreams, cannon fodder, giana sisters, rainbow islands were my go to games.

  4. Haha My head was saying dismiss this as another Pi clone, but I had never heard of this and im on quite a few emulation groups, I am now looking into ordering one of these after I attempt at building a pinball cab. I have a Pi conected to my main TV and it just doesn't feel right so cheers :)

  5. Fairlight also known as FLT are still going strong, used to crack C64 and Amiga amongst other systems, always had a cool demo running before the trainer.

Edit - They also have an active Facebook group where they reminisce the 'Good old days' haha

  6. Just watched the Omega Video, great game to play, as were all the Maygays at the time, I live in Blackpool and ye you are correct, the Golden Mile place was originally called Mr B's then changed its name to Mr T's for a reason I still dont know today, also where the new building is being built, that was the Palace nightclub building, there used to be be Purple Penny arcade at the base but that was many moons ago, where the arcade was, a gift shop, and B & Ms behind, probably not an arcade for, say 15 years.

  7. This was a great game to  play in the day, Coral Island had a row of them, you needed plenty of cash though, but the repeats could be mental, nothing like we had seen, think the most I had was £26, but that was a fortune haha, nearest I remember was all cash advance which could hit £14 if you were lucky,

  8. I really didn't mind tokens, in Blackpool tokens were tied to the brewery, so if you won in say a Scottish & Newcastle pub, all tokens would work in their pubs, that is Blackpool used to have loads of pubs. Also during the £4.80 days, pubs used to have 7 heaven/ Cloud 999/ Blue Moons and when they streaked you could usually recycle  and and get money back plus more tokens, again this was in Blackpool where in the season, machines were very well played, so my memories of tokens and lower jackpots were good, and was the only time I used to make some money. BUT I like yourself and many more lost thousands in the long run.

  9. Great video, loved this game, they used to be in a few pubs in Blackpool, used to be great for beer tokens haha.  I also seem to remember a very similar game, same cab with a cashpot, but instead of repeats, used to hold for fun, especially mixed 7s, where after a nudge, instead of holding, let em spin and jackpot would roll in., and usually hold.

I started on the Atari ST for this generation - I had a choice literally when I went shopping for it.  I would have been much happier if I had picked the Amiga box with hindsight.

It took me about two years to have enough cash to fix that bloody problem.

Was the Fruit Machine game Dirty Cash - that is one I used to enjoy.

No wasnt that one Reg, the one i played was definetly 3 reals.

  11. Living in Blackpool, seen so many, Gorf in the swimming pool café, like Pook says , Dragon Lair was real!! Space Harrier and Out run sit down cabs. also lots of memories of playing 1942 in Funland before it burnt down, BUT Star Wars (sit down) in Mr B's arcade, PBB was the Hi Score all time.

  12. Sounds a blast, i will go down freemont street as to me thats the the original Las Vegas!!!

I also would like to visit the neon museum which I think houses all the old signage from yesteryear. Oh and a visit to see Chumlee at the old silver and gold pawn shop from the Pawn Stars series.
