I believe it was really easy to trap them for the £70 squares in the corners on P1 and P2, then a bit more involved on P3, but nothing like the mega-faff that the P4s are.

They were all on P4 when they first showed up over here so I never got to do any of the earlier chips.

There has also been talk of a 'dirty chip' over the years that was allegedly a sort of 'semi-unofficial' P5, and that one would just Alien you for fun whenever it felt like it, apparently.

By the way Al, this is running V0.3, not V0.4.

  2. I did some original work on that red hot poker cab for richy so I do have a decent cab.  I had been doing some bits for a Reno DX a while back but put it on the back burner.   The top glass image on that pic isn’t too bad I’ve recreated the bottom glass from various bits etc.

I was going to work on this at some point but there is nothing stopped you creating something vecs if you wanted fella.   I can hold off with it no problem.

  3. If decent Reno images every surfaced I would definitely be creating a layout even if it was just for my personal use.  Gold Rush will be unlikely, not seen one since 2006.

I did start redrawing Reno from some lo res images when mfme v5 was released, but my personal opinion is that glass scans/redraw are no-where near as good as hi-res images of the actual machine.

  4. Great vid Al, sublime.   God I miss playing these in the wild for sure ;)

I also released a version of Gold Rush which complimented Reno Reels and is almost a clone apart from the way the feature can be entered, you can enter with a normal feature entry or get 3 coins on one reel (via feature holds) and enter with feature already upgraded.   It was a strange one.

Gold Rush is my personal favourite, was an emptier on at least 2 of the programmes for all these, Reno, gold rush, monte and miami.    Was always nice to find one of these, they were everywhere back in the day.   Never got chipped till the early on in the £8 era, so a lot of the £8 tokens ones worked.   We got the trick in summer 95, a fix was released in Dec 95.  Still back then just pre-mobile phones these tricks lasted for ages, I played a fair few in 1996 that were still unchipped, great era to play in, do miss those crazy times.

    Cheers

Very much looking forward to doing the advert - a nice bit of promotion for the scene and I do include other sites.

This is what I have in mind for the moment...

I could make the logo look 8 bit.  Just go to layer effects and pixelate, not too much just to give it that blocky pixel look 😊

'A small emulation scene that's been running for over 10 years' should be 'A small emulation scene that's been running for almost 20 years' :D

People who will read this will be speccy enthusiasts, so will have nostalgia spanning about 82-87, maybe that can be reflected in the images and include a machine from that era.

Maybe line up, it’s from that era and is an iconic machine for sure 😊

  7. It was a pretty decent skill machine this for a decent player back in the day.   This one won't cheat on reel skill, not sure if there is a flag that will make it cheat if unable to afford jackpot.  But I hit reel skill 4 times without it slipping, I did skill cash once for the jackpot, not sure if that can cheat but the last one does go pretty fast.   Great machines though.   They didn't have a streak, they could pay a fair bit but they never had a pronounced streak, shame as it would have made it an even better machine.

  8. Yes, I've tried everything, maybe these roms aren't switchable after all :(.    Maybe Chris could take a look, looking at an actual switchable rom (labyrinth £10), you can see in the hex editor as you switch the dip, the byte at a certain location changes corresponding to the price of play in hex...  0A - 10p, 14 - 20p and 19 - 25p.   Maybe they could be hacked but I don't have the time to look into it at the minute.

Anyway here is Spinx £6 token roms, these are switchable via bank 2 dip.  Switch 6 is 10p play, switch 7 is 5p play.  Default is all off for 20p play.

  9. I found a Pyramid manual from Spa's google drive.   No option to switch, going from that manual, but these roms came out after the initial release so I believe they are switchable, though I've tried all dips with no luck.   These were definitely switchable back in the day I pretty certain.

  10. Yes, I will post the rom later this evening,  We do have 'switchable' rom for Pyramid, viewing the file in a hex editor I can see 5p play, 10p play and 20p play, so I assume it is switchable.  Not sure if the phoenix dil switches are set up correctly, I don't have access to a machine manual.  Maybe someone who has one can relay the dil option switches.
