So fond of those 8bit days. My first computer was a Vic20, everyone else got Spectrums, so I was the odd one out. I did have some fun times using it though and with the 16k ram pack fitted there were some pretty decent games to play. I used to play Perils of Willy and Wunda Walter to death.
My pathway to the Amiga was Vic, Spectrum, Spectrum 128k, C64. I did have most fun on the Spectrum, all my friends had them so C90 full of games was nice back then.

I used to collect Retro Gamer, hand all the early issues with the DVD etc, now I only buy the annual copies, it pretty much has all the best bits over the year. They do seem to repeat stuff which can be annoying.

I still have a Sinclair Programs. I also have some excellent copies of C&VG from 1983 to 1985. Not as good as Crash or Zapp64, review wise.

Graphics were colourful but blocky on C64. Spectrum had detailed graphics with colour clash.
My good mate was over at mine last weekend and he showed me a ZX Spectrum game that he is working on in his spare time and there are coding techniques to have multicolour graphics with no colour clash, he showed me the main title screen and you wouldn’t think it was a Spectrum screen at all.

Giana Sisters will be worth a small fortune. Pretty sure they’ve gone for over a grand on eBay. The game was withdrawn from stores shortly after release, so is pretty rare.
3D Moster Maze was s brilliant ZX81 game.

PS Would love to see a pic of it if you have it.
I remember getting about £75 for my Ultimate Boxset on eBay.

Totally agree. Both Bomb Jack and Commando by Elite where superior to the C64 versions, graphics wise. The Rob Hubbard soundtrack on Commando for the C64 was pretty decent though.

I used to love the Christmas editions. I loved both Crash and Zzap64. Brilliant magazines.

Bobby Bearing was an excellent game released by The Edge. I never really played Inside Outing, I had my C64 by then but by 1988 I wasn’t playing computer games on a regular basis. In 1989 I got my Amiga, I didn’t play a great deal of games on that to be honest, I was really into music creation and started using Noise Tracker, got one of those sampler carts and this is what I mainly used my Amiga for, this and Deluxe Paint.

You can't beat the look of the Vector based games, they look timeless.

Living on a seaside resort I was exposed from an early age to both video games and fruit machines. A few of my favourites over the years from mid 80's are
Phoenix
Star Wars (sit down)
Tron
Circus Charlie
Pacland
Wonderboy
Rygar
Wardner

I didn’t know anyone with a Mattel Aquarius, I can’t remember seeing any games on that specific system, it was Z80 based like the ZX Spectrum, it was released in 1984, way too late to have any kind of impact, also 4K ram didn’t help.

Let me know if you want the composite video mod doing Dad, did it on all my Spectrums, fairly easy, just means you can plug it into a modern TV that doesn’t have an analogue aerial ;).
Also I’ve repaired a few with blown ram if it doesn’t work I can fix it for you

We used to swap copies in the playground. Our computer club pretty much just copied games

Yeah boots was the place that had all games. I didn’t buy many games as my mates dad used to get pirated tapes from his work every other week. Was s bit naughty but when you’re a kid it seems ok.

I was also firmly in the Spectrum camp.... eventually.... All my friends had the Spectrum, I was unlucky the previous year. My mam and dad got me a Vic20.... I was the laughing stock at school, even the teachers laughed in my face (not really). It didn't matter, I really wasn't into computers prior to this, my parents didn't know what they were buying to be fair, they'd been rumbelow'd.
The Vic20 was probably the same price as the ZX Spectrum I reckon, I'm sure the Vic20 was £139.99 or something like that. I did have some fun on 'Blitz' and a short time later I asked (made) my mother buy me a 16K expansion pack, so I could get Perils of Willy and a game called Wunda Walter, both were excellent games actually.

Ha ha, I remember playing this one cold winters evening on my friends Spectrum... Could have been yesterday, I remember afterwards we played out in the snow.
I distinctly remember it being just after Christmas cause I’d got a ZX Spectrum + my dad took me and my friend to boots in town to get a game, it was Dec 27th 1985, the roads were treacherous I remember our car spinning on the ice. I got Rambo, my friend got Commando. We seemed to be in there for hours. Great times and memories.

Yeah might have been a little behind. I couldn't get the hang of it at first and it just kept offering an invincible, that's how bad I was. I was missing a small step out.

Did it twice quite quickly. Since then it's been stitching me up with cash advance until it's in danger then it's all over.. Will keep trying a couple of bits.

I remember Tecmo World Cup, there were a load of little tricks to score, I remember that it was possible to score from the goal kick in some instances. Nice tracker ball game for sure.
