  1. One thing I've always liked is the background sounds of arcades, if you want to immerse yourself a little more in MFME, play this sound file in the background while playing whatever layouts you enjoy.

You'll feel just like you're in an arcade and also want to punch the person next to you who is contstantly chattering on the machine to your side.

Have fun and enjoy... ( Background Sounds ) ...this is so much cooler now that we can actually probably play a lot of the machines you hear !

  2. Let's look at the below example of two sets of lamps, the yellow row at the bottom is the primary lamp and the unlit lamps are the red super features.

    161213_dual_001.png

The goal is to merge the lamps so they look like this.

    161213_dual_003.png

This would make the lamp properities look like below.

    161213_dual_004.png

Rather than do this by going into the Properties of each lamp, you can do this in about 20 seconds for the entire row while on the main editor screen with the following key.

    161213_dual_005.png

Hold the CTRL key down while dragging the source lamp to the destination lamp as shown, note that your key maybe not this size depending on your keyboard.

    161213_dual_002.png

The mouse pointer will change to the following icon to indicate that the lamp has been "grabbed".

    161213_dual_006.png

Using this method you can quickly setup multi lamps.

Note: If there is text on them such as some of the Barcrest's where the red trail lamps can have different names, you have to manually edit those details on the right text box for the lamps.  In cases such as this, it is highly recommended that you have NO TEXT in the "Off" lamp and put the right text on the "On1" and "On2" lamps.

  3. So techs had dual bulbs on the machine buttons so you could for example have a Hold / Hi or a Hold / Lo.

It's not often used, but in cases where it exists MFME now supports dual lamped buttons.  This is how to set it up with an example of what they look like.

  4. Yeah it's chaos, but worth it when you sort it.  My structure is basically this:

    Tech / Machine

    This then goes into say DX1, DX2, DX3, CL1 and CL2.

In each of these, I call the game a generic name,  say wheelofwealth_a5 for the .gam and .ram file.

This way, when you drag pictures or cabinets into the panel that will work with each one.

It is work, I've got a live directory and to be move - it's going to take a very long time. :o

  5. Looking through the history of MFME, some layouts will show that the lamps have simply been brightened on layouts.

    One example is below...

    241116_SpiceUp_0001.png

You can clearly see thee off colour of the layout and these lamps have just had there brightness and contrast altered to fix.

Let's take a look at this board again after some work has gone into this...

    241116_SpiceUp_0002.png

This looks better now and more effort has gone into this - but it only took an extra two minutes to do.

This was achived in two minutes by doing the following to each lamp where you wanted the effect.

    241116_SpiceUp_0003.png

Go into Properties of the lamp, right click on the empty mask field and select Default and then finally Apply.

  6. The game manager is a really powerful tool and can make your MFME layout setup looking pretty damn stunning with it's Cabinet tab...

    161123_GM_001.png

    ...and it's Flyer tab...

    161123_GM_002.png

To use it, make sure that your directory structure is setup as below where MFME runs from...

    161123_GM_003.png

...once this is done in Game Manager highlight the game you want to add a picture for and on the internet find any picture you want and simply drag it on to Cabinet of Flyer panel.

Below shows this in action from a random machine on eBay that we will pretend was Spice It Up being dragged into the cabinet panel that will then automatically save the picture within Cabinets.

    161123_GM_004.png

As a side note, to add pictures into the Game panel, simply press F8 when the game is live.  When running you will not see the picture as that shows a live view of the game but when the game is not live, you will see your picture.

can i add Can you read the button when magnified, never mind normally.I find a minority  of dx layouts are so unclear that even when you use the magnify function you can't make out what is written.Personally i'd rather a classic in those instances.

That is a really interesting thought here - you're obviously only as good as the base art that you've got, I'll certinally add this but with "is the text readable on DX's".  I think your point covers more than just the buttons in some cases.

  8. 161121_DIPS_004.png

Dip switches can have a label on layouts.  This is Dip 1 /1 showing as Test.

Simply right click on them and you can label them as you please.  Very useful if you have the manual or have found one that does something interesting.  A good example of this, some machines can turn attract mode on and off or Party Time can have additional sounds.

  9. Just a few tips with some examples on meter setup to get this right, assuming that a ram clear has been done.

    161121_DIPS_001.png

The above screen shows a game with a lot of SEC values, the only ones that matter are the VTP, CASH IN and CASHOUT.  Note the minus value for one of the out meters.  This does look a littler odd, but if you are concerned about meters it will be 100% correct on the overall stats and this is assuming that the machine has a note acceptor and you can transfer money.

    161121_DIPS_002.png

The above is from Party Time.  This is the classic Meter 1 in for coins in and Meter 2 out for coins out, think of this as legacy old school machines without the transfer option.

    161121_DIPS_003.png

The final one is for a machine that has the WINS option shown here as SEC14.  In this case it is simply VTP in and WINS out.

If any other versions are found that are interesting and useful, they will be posted to this thread and the main post edited.

  10. The purpose of this site is to review layouts and help the layouts designers of the world build a better layout!

Yes this may seem a little self-righteous or be part of movement to improve layouts, but remember “Good Layouts Matter” and don’t let yours be consigned to a Recycle Bin.

Key things to consider in no particular order that keep this site up at night are as follows:

    • Meters - are they fully functioning?
    • Alignment - how well are your lamps placed, where your hands shaking when you chose their positon?
    • Alphas / LED segments - can you read them?
    • Volume - Do we hear the magical sound of our virtual money vanishing?
    • Refill - Has it been refilled?
    • Eye Bleeder - Will my eyes hurt after using it?
    • Shortcuts - Do they work?
    • Reels - Do they look a mess and are they accurate?
    • DX Text - How readable is the DX text for vital items on the layout?
    • Database entry on the Game Manager.

The list can go an and it will go on - but the key thing here, is to make something that people will want to use rather then load it up, think screw it and then not download anything you make again.

This is just some of the things that will be the foundation of a layout review here.

    Good luck designers!
