  1. Where have I been for the last three months?  I've only found out about this, this afternoon!!

Most saddened and devostated to learn the news.  Sadly never met Wizard but have communicated with him by email and over the forums over the years.  Wezard's emulators have given me many hours of fun and memories of fruit machines I used to play.  I'm sure it will give me many more years of fun too.

    RIP Wizard

Yeah i am sure it was .

Is it something to do with being an Empire game?  Wasn't there some history regarding Empire and FME whereby I seem to remember that at first they supported MFE but then withdrew their support Because people were releasing current layouts or something.  Didn't this prompt wizard to block all Empire roms when the next version of the emulator was released?  Or have I got this wrong?

When was the original .res file released?  the earliest I seem to have is December 2001 which is pretty early but must have been after .dat files were introduced as it is a .dat file.  It will not open in mpu34v874 which is the earliest version I seem to have but I believe there was an 8.73, but I'm missing this one.  I have found mpu34 6 but I think that only runs res files.

Many thanks, it could be Razorsback the creator?

(ETA the layouts are not the one in the original post but a later version, the original was a .res, many thanks.)

Interesting, I downloaded most of what came out during the .res days but don't have a Pitfall going that far back.  So the one that doesn't work has been converted from .res to .dat?

  4. I have a question about MPU3 games in the legacy area.  There was a point where additional features were added to the emulator, I can't remember which version, meaning that early mpu3 games errored in some way because switch settings or dip switches had to be set correctly which older versions of the emulator did not require.  Most common errors are alarming to a 30 or 60 second countdown when switched on and/or alarming after first credit.  Have such layouts been corrected and then placed in the legacy area or are they converted as they were or if errors were found were those layouts not posted to the lecacy area?  I'm just concerned that if newbies ask for roms then they will be asking a load more questions if the games error.

I have found threads in some forums with comments like 'old mpu3 games don't work in the new emulators', which is incorrect, they just need to be set up correctly.  I started going through my mpu3 emulated collection last year and were having all sorts of problems.  With help from Wizard, I managed to sort most of them out although I still have a few games with problems.

So in short, are all the layouts in the legacy area all known working layouts in 5.1+?

I get this error when opening the .dat

I guess this may have been resolved by now but in case it hasn't, are these of any help?  I've included a Zip file of the game state it is in since I last played it, cannot remember if or how often I played it, and the original zip file I would have downloaded.  I've tested the game in mfme2 and mfme5.1 and it loads and plays successfully in both.  After testing it in 5.1, I selected no changes so it has not changed it to FML format, or shouldn't have.  The zip file ending '-2' is the current game state and the other one is the original zip I downloaded.

And what is an 'RB' DX?  Anyone remember?

  6. Hi Pook

Thank you so much for the reply and also thanks for posting the flyer.

I found the flyer interesting as when I loaded up the two emulated versions I noticed a slight difference in the colors and wondered why, it is because the author of the 1280 version used the flyer where as the author of the 1024 DX I presumed used a real photo since the colors are greener which was how I remember the machine looking, the same colors as Bank Roll.  I guess a flyer which is printed on paper probably slightly different to the machine itself?

Something else I noticed with the two emulated versions, they are both set to £2 repeat jackpot where as the ones I played in the arcades were all set to £4 token jackpots and if the jackpot symbols are achievable with nudges on the emulated versions, the display will show £2.00 but will still let you gamble where as when it is set to £4, as soon as you have enough nudges to obtain the £4, the machine will nudge automatically.  I presume the roms are switchable since the machine seems to allow for both options.  I guess having a £2 + repeat chance jackpot perhaps makes it more likely to get repeats.  I never recall seeing this machine in a pub nor Bank Roll come to that where as I certainly remember most of the other machines of this era in pubs.

The two releases I have are certainly playable but it would be great to see a nice updated version.

Thanks for all your great work.

    Richard.

  7. Hi Pook

I've noticed your recent releases of the old JPM MPS2s.  I remember playing these numerous times in pubs and arcades in the early 90s.

Have you ever DXed Note Exchange?  I have a couple of DXes of this machine in my emulation folder but upon loading them they look rather old, one doesn't work, may be an over credit as it boots up and then hangs with 52 credits in the machine.

I just wondered if you have done a version long ago whether you would considering re releasing it or perhaps consider doing a new release if you have never done one before?

I remember this machine well and played it many times in different places.  It was one of my favorite from that era.  On one occasion I had the top feature which went for £20 which at that time was quite an achievement.

    Thanks

    Richard

    Me three :D

Anyone looking for their recovery email from the Mecca, check your spam folders, mine went there.

The problem I'm having with the Mecca is I cannot log in, I found my recovery email but I don't know if it is a BT web mail problem but it does not display a link or button, it just says in text 'RESET YOUR PASSWORD' and all I can do is highlight it.  I've tried forwarding it to my other BT account which uses a different webmail version but the forward did not work.

So at least for the moment, I'm locked out of the Mecca :(

If I signed up to the Mecca using my other email address, would Pete be able to transfer my info to the new email?

  9. Hi

Does anyone know what's happened to the MPUMecca site?  Last weekend it came up with a server change message.  I've not switched my computer on for the las few days because of the heat.  Tried again this evening and it redirected me to a radio station site.

Has it gone forever or is it just some technical problem?
