  1. I think these machines came from an arcade in Blackpool, and i think i know which arcade it was, The one that used to be outside the Pleasure Beach it was run by a nice old guy, I used to go there as he has many classic fruit machines to play as well as the old video games it was a true classic arcade.

  2. To be honest i think as stated in another reply to this thread this guy has more to worry about than a few people here calling him names, The big players may be happy to let us use there copyrighted material for free and non profit, but when people start to trying to make cash from there work, they will start going after them hard.

For those of us fortunate to be here right at the start of the scene with MPU3/4 which wizard was selling it at £50 but then i believe he got some communications from Barcrests legal team, where after some discussions between the party's it was agreed that wizard could carry on with the emulator but he would not charge for it nor would he package it with roms. And this has been the situation ever since. So selling the emulator with any games is an outright breach of these conditions, however as Wizard is sadly no longer with us it would be up to whom ever now owns the emulator and associated rights to pursue this legally assuming they want to . The above may not be 100% accurate on how it became free and am happy to be corrected if any one who  was here at the beginning as a more accurate version of events at that time.

  3. Hi

Yes i believe access to the old roms section is only accessible to site donators so therefore all you need to do is give a small dontaiton to the site from the link on the home page and then you will have access to the old roms area.

    taken far too soon

    massive respects jeff😢

    Hi

Not many of us here actually knew Wizard and even less of us actually met him, Reg the site owner here being one such, but we have sent messages to him through this board and others, and we have shared with him though his legacy MFME a small part of him, and although we will never have an update there are so many machines that can be emulated, by keeping the scene going, is the best legacy we can have for the man who touched us all Chirs J Wren.

Thank you Harvey, that really means a lot to me and I'm sure many others as well.

TBH I'm genuinely taken aback by how hard this has hit me, I knew that Chris and his work had been a big part of my life over the last 19 years, so logically it would make sense for me to be upset by his passing, but then again I never actually spoke to him, and whilst we have exchanged messages over the years and quite a few friendly ones in this 'new era' of FME, I'd be lying if I said I was in any way close to him.

And yet, thinking about it, he did speak to me, he spoke to all of us, every single time we load in MFME, Chris is speaking to us, because it is so much the passion project of a single person. It's not like when the credits roll on a modern videogame and about six million names scroll up the screen, MFME is basically Chris, the work of one man and his incredible talent and dedication to make MFME the very best emulator he possibly could.

So to have that voice suddenly fall silent, to know that the brilliant mind behind MFME is no longer with us, really fucking hurts, I've properly been in bits over it, I woke up at 5:30am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, thinking about Chris and FME. I can't concentrate on anything today, I'm properly useless, I'm going to book the afternoon off and go for a long walk and try to rationalise it all through.

    RIP Chris.

    Hi

I am in agreement with all you have said chops, but i am not affected in the same way as you and more so Harvey who had actually met Chris, I am saddened by his passing like everyone here, but not affected like you have been i could hear that in your video that you posted last night. I think this is more to do with the way i have deal with this sad life event. But my thoughts are with Chris's Family at this sad time, and I hope your long walk helps you work through your feelings at this sad times.

I have no idea how to process this, I should probably wait a bit and get my head together but I'll go with my gut reaction. Once the initial shock had passed at reading Reg's post my immediate emotion was deep sadness, and then I started crying, it just happened, and I realised how much Chris and his work have meant to me over the last twenty years. (I mean, I already knew that, in many ways my channel has been an ongoing dedication to his brilliance, but reading in black and white that he's dead is truly awful.)

Like others I credit his emulator in being a factor in me finally beating my crippling addiction to fruit machines, it was in many ways the true holy grail of fruit machine addicts, a safe space where machines could be endlessly played with no real money on the line.

This new era of fruit machine emulation started in 2016 by his release of MFME V5.1 felt like a second chance in many regards, those of who've been around since the early days know how the scene was riven by conflicts and arguments in 'Phase 1', and I'm sure many of us had regrets over things that we'd done, so to get the opportunity to all come together again, with some of us (very much including myself in this) having grown up a bit, was fantastic.

I'm glad we've all had these four 'new years' together as a scene and that Chris got to see us all show our appreciation for him with the recent 'Wine For Wizard' donation drive.

Rest in peace fella, a genuine and heartfelt thank you to you for everything, I maintain to this day that the single most exciting thing I have ever seen a computer do, is load in the demo version of Super Blackjack Club in an early version of MPU3/4, and after a couple of minutes have me realise that fruit machine emulation had become a reality, I genuinely still remember that moment to this day - and it would have never existed as a moment were it not for Chris.

Fuck I'm going to start crying again, I'll leave it there. I'll do something for the channel if I can get my shit together.

Well said Chops i have not put anything about this in any of my posts or threads, but like you this little program from Chris, has definitely saved my wallet, and my relationship. As well as my sanity.

  7. RIP Chris thank you for the joy you have brought to many with your emulator, you have been taken from this world way to soon, condolences to your family at this sad time. As long as this community exists and people play your legacy, your memory will live on forever.

  8. I have just looked at the spec of that Lenovo, I would not choose Lenovo due to reliability issues I have had with them in the past both in a professional capacity and personal, however the 500GB is a HDD when you get the machine for your intended use I would clone that HDD then remove and replace it with a SSD you can get them for not much now and for what you want a 256GB should be ok but leaving you with the option to install a 2nd and possibly 3rd one later on if you need to. HDDs produce a lot of heat, if you don't want to do the above then I would suggest getting a HDD cooling fan for the drive to help keep the heat off it, as heat and HDDs don't mix. It will reduce the life of the drive. This is again from personal experience.

    • Thanks 1
  9. As a further suggestion I would incorporate a couple of cooling fans into your cabinet as well to give extra cooling to the PC, you can use a couple of large or medium sized PC fans and power them from the PC, PC's are not designed to work in completely enclosed cabinets with no air flow to keep them cool also If you can find a PC has SSD rather than HDD as these produce less heat, and if your going for a dedicated video card I would get one with its own fan for cooling as well.

  10. Hi

This is a BFM game there was one in Funland Arcade at Blackpool in 2018, as I played it on 10p/£5 and got a nice little streak out of it other BFM video machines have been done for example monopoly wheel of wealth, so unless this one has some protection or other issue, and we have the roms I cannot see any reason why it could not be done I would also love to see it, there as also a cops and robbers video machine round at about the same time if I remember as Funland also had one of these.

  11. Hi

Dads site has many games that are not on this site as dad tends to only release his own layouts on his site dad has done a lot of the Union games machines for example and also many of the Empire catalogue of lo-techs as DXs however I have been following your threads jackpot and have noted the issues you have been having as a new member of the MFEM club I am considering making some Dummies guides to the Emulator to add to my You Tube channel I am at the moment working on the best way to do this as its going to need me to add commentary and actually do some post production on the vids so it may take me a week or 2 to get the 1st one up and online, create a thread both here and at dads once the 1st one is up so I can get some feed back.

  12. Hi

Another thing that may be stopping your comms working is if you have had a pop up from your file wall asking you to allow MFME and if you have said no then comms will stop working, I accidently did this when I changed to Zone Alarm and had to then manual allow MFME to pass through the filewall to get the multi player games to work again

I am SO sorry to be a pain, as just so un-technical you wouldn't believe (well you probably do)

So when I click on your link I click ''open'' first yes rather than save or save as?

Then extract and save to folder, correct?

Then in order to run older games I download/extract a game the way I used to on fruit-emu for games that are not here and put them into a folder?

Then what do I do please? Run the 5.1 open the game, close it and then run it again on 6.1?

    Jon

You will need to click on save when you close the game in 5.1 if you don't it wont convert and therefore will not open in the latest version of the emulator or 6.1 if your not running windows 10 if you are the I would deffo suggest you get version 19.x as this version has many new and updated features.

    Hi

On the about screen which you should have an option as the last one on the menus the check for updates should be directly below the MFME logo on that screen above the scroll window if you cannot see it then try uninstalling and re installing the emu

    Hi

If you download V19.0 then once installed go to the about menu option, this should come up automatically the 1st time you run it, the click on the check for updates and the program will automatically download and update to the latest version for you. Then you can play all of the layouts here

Thankyou cliffc thats a lot of information and also a great read from the link you posted 👍

    Hi

No probs carfield also made a traveling fair ground ride round 1976 called round up although different operators gave it different names essentially it was lots of cages in a circle and you all stood up In them and the ride spun fast then went up on its axis, basicly a big spin dryer and the centrifugle force pushed you back into the cage while in the air so when you were pointing face down you did not fall out, I spent many quid on that thing when it was out summer fair week
