Working this weekend on boring life jobs, but before I got started, just had a little tinker with how a 'non-square' tessellating real-world arcade carpet pattern might be ripped (as a lot of arcade carpets I've checked in the past on youtube arcade videos do repeat, but not using square blocks):

Mr P's Bognor - vaguely usable carpet shot from youtube (non-square repeating pattern):

Perspective warp extract tessellating area (note it is non-square repeating blocks), so then temporarily distorted in another way:

Shear the block to bring back to the 'square perspective as viewed from above in real world:

Paste the tessellating non-square block, to see joined repeating pattern in pure 2d:

So what I'd do for this since it's pretty simple is trace a high res basic copy, using pure colors, and fix the minor tessellation issues (original video perspective making very lightly misaligned seams).  Then that could be applied to a repeating quad mesh that is also warped to these 60 degree shears, along with some detail/normal/bump maps to provide a woolly carpet-like interaction with the light, and I think it would look good and realistic (along with the oft-requested stains of course).

Not a priority for now, but a fun quick investigation none-the-less!  I really just wanted to prove it could be recreated for more real-world Arcade Sim carpets in future :)

Looking good, Mr P actually uploaded this image on Facebook of the Maidstone branch that’s undergoing refurbishment which might be useful also if needed.

Keep up the fantastic work! Seriously impressive!

  2. That’s a mighty shame but totally understandable, yourself and real life always comes first.

Cheers for all the videos, the gambling low episodes were especially deep and took me back to darker times. I think most of us can very much relate one way or another. I recall being with my ex, setting up her new chest of draws in the bedroom with the laptop..what did I do?! Only play bloody blackjack behind her back and quickly closing the laptop screen when she came up to see the progress. What on earth was I doing?! It makes me ashamed just thinking about it. I’ve been online gamble free for 10+ years now without the slightest of urges thankfully. Happily married and doing much better in life now. The only “gambling” I do now days is low stakes in Mr P’s solely for the amusement a few times a year. I guess what I’m trying to say is your channel was really something else, it just had that connection. A great host, great story’s, had a bit of everything and introduced me to the forum. I’ll definitely miss your videos. Thanks for the memories though!

All the very best for the future.

  3. Dear god! I have no words to express myself...just wow!

Seeing all the classics coming into it takes it to a whole new level of greatness. I always found myself playing the older machines really, I’m not really into modern machines although it did give you the realistic feel of walking around your average modern arcade trying to look for something half decent to play. Absolutely no offence meant to yourself or the creators of those DX layouts! (Just not my cuppa tea)

Thanks for all the effort you’ve put into creating the arcade simulator!

Bloody love it! Keep up the awesome work, Spidy too! :) Thanks again!
