Actually most I tried.  Space Invaders 1 & 2, Frogger, Galaxians etc

Star Castle works fine though, which is the one I asked for so thanks very much for adding that :)

all i can say is wow.

I am using a xbox joypad and it seems to work although one button brings up the config menu.

The section of frogger are rotated the wrong way but the other games that i played were fine.

Will give it a proper look at soon.

Thanks for doing this.Love the domed effect

Ta for letting me know the joypad 'vaguely' worked :)  I've not done any proper work on that side of things, but hopefully it's works enough for some basic initial use for those who prefer a pad to keys.

Thanks both for the info - I'll look into Frogger/Galaxian etc... hopefully get those sorted for a patch fix.

Hmm odd, there must be something being saved somewhere 'special'!  As Commando/Galaxian/Frogger/Space Invaders don't seem have a rotation bug for me:

I'll check on my other 2x test PCs tomorrow, hopefully they are rotated on those (I'm currently using the dev PC, so something must be saved somewhere here to fix the rotation for me)...

Wow!  Thank you for this release John.  It's incredible!!  I instantly dived in without reading properly, and laughed when I finally worked out the controls are configured as QAOP 😃

-----

Regarding the screen rotation issue, until John fixes it properly we can:

  • Make sure hidden items are visible in windows view options.
  • Go to folder C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Arcade Simulator\Game\ArcadeSim_Data\_Emulators\libretro\libretro~\core_options\
  • right-click mame2003.json and open with notepad
  • edit the final line to (change is in bold) "mame2003_tate_mode;TATE Mode - Rotating display (Restart core);enabled;disabled|enabled;"
  • save mame2003.json
  • relaunch Arcade Simulator

Ahh nice to be back in your damn impressive arcade! Sure there's some screen rotation issues but you more than the monitor power cycling seems to have been fixed AND we've now got MAME machines added... ALL WITH SOUND! It actually sounds like an arcade from the 80s a time which I never got to experience!

If you don't mind, I think I'll dub this virtual arcade JP SAFE Amusements (JP standing for John Parker and the SAFE standing for Several Arcade & Fruit Emulation)

just for info...mine also has rotation problems as others have said...

thanks for all the effort and time you are throwing at this..amazing stuff..

Thanks for letting me know :) - seems like it affects everyone except me, so I will work on it in next day or two and hopefully push out a fix... it's something I've got set locally...

Ha nice workaround!  :)  I should be able to sort out a proper fix when I next get time to work on in this... and just a heads up, once that patch goes live, I suspect anyone who has done this may need to 'undo' it, otherwise it may conflict with the fix (so the screens might end up rotated again even with the fix!)

I'll hopefully get it fixed soon :)

I've not done anything to fix the monitor power cycling, so I'm glad it is now working for you - but at some point I'll source a second monitor and get to the bottom of it properly, I have this logged already on one of my bugs lists :)  Enjoy JP SAFE Amusements lol! ;)

Incredible! Feels very much like a 1987ish Southend arcade to me. Absolutely superb! A few things....

1. First install, all the screens were blank and silent. Was quite eerie walking around the dormant machines. I turned the attract modes on and nothing happened.

2. Second time around, I heard the sounds as it started to install. The arcade came fully alive.

3. Same as above, screen rotation issues for all the vertical monitors.

4. Just like MAME, it's extremely easy for the user to mess up the configurations for controls. Took me quite a bit of work to get things behaving correctly. Be good to have a little help guide in the Arcade telling you what controls do what.

5. I'd prefer to play the MAME games full-screen with no curve effect personally, with a way for me to be able to tweak that game to game (like you can with Retro Arch).

6. Amazing! Thank so much for working so hard to preserve these memories so other people can visit this golden era of gaming. Superb. And you've not finished yet!

This looks and sounds amazing, thank you for releasing it with the videos games. I'm also finding most of the games are rotated 90 degrees. I wondered if it might be a registery setting for mame, as when I last played mame I had it on a monitor in portrait and had rotated a lot of the games. I have the issue with Frogger, so went into Mame and changed the video settings for Frogger. And ...... it made no difference. Ah well. I'm afraid I'll have to leave it to you to fix.

But to just play Fruit Machines with that arcade-noise back drop is good enough for now.

1/2 - this is the intended behaviour at present.  Later there will be sound and cycling screenshots for the default setting of no attract videos.  The attract video setting requires a reload of the arcade, later these types of settings will reload the current arcade automatically, or will live in the front end.

3 - screen rotation/start up messages should now hopefully be sorted with the the latest live patch, seemed to work here

4 - ultimately the MAME internal config will be completely locked out, and all control configs etc will be done entirely through the Arcade Sim interface

5 - there is now a backlog item for this full screen stuff, I'm not sure when I'll get to it though

6 - cheers! Glad you're enjoying it :)

I think it would be pretty cool if we had skill ball zingy bingo machine in the arcade @johnparker007

New machines will slowly filter through though it'll be a good while before that game as it'll need new MAME, new cab etc

A new patch is live, this hopefully (seemed to work here on a test PC) fixes screen rotation on vertical games, and also get rid of unwanted startup messages :)

Really good fun.One small thing though if you put more than one coin in seems to  default to 2 player game.

I realize this is probably a long way away but live top scores would be a really good feature.

What game were you playing where it defaults to a 2 player game?  I might do stuff in future that automates various stuff, such as inserting coin/starting the games... not sure yet though.

Live online high score league tables are planned for the future (probably around/after online multiplayer which is a very big feature to implement), I have to get the latest MAME up and running first which has been proving problematic.

I did just try on my local dev machine install, and it doesn't seem to be happening for me; playing 100% keyboard (no Xbox controller etc), my steps I am following:

- press Enter to engage machine
- press '0' (zero) key to insert multiple credits
- press '1' key to start a 1 player game

Is that what you guys are doing?  Or are you using perhaps an Xbox/Playstation type game controller?  Just trying to figure out what could be different... :)

Wow, what an update this is.

Looks incredible.

I managed to play several arcade games for much longer than intended, with my Xbox one pad, without an issue.

I'm not seeing any attract modes on the arcade games screens, (the fruit machines are doing attract mode), as I'm walking around. Also did I see something about hearing arcade sounds, while playing fruit machines, I'm not hearing any myself.

Have I missed something, or is this how it's meant to be?

As for the multiple credits, perhaps, some of the coin mechs are very sensitive and it thinks, people are entering multiple coins.

On older MFME versions, ACE Sys 1 machines, like Pound Sterling etc, used to alarm, because it would think more than one coin was being inserted, even though you were only pushing 0 once. You used to have to jab 0 quickly, with the tip of your finger.
