Hi John downloaded new arcade sim today  looks amazing and really love the new machines you have put in 👍. This keeps coming up sometimes probably just my crappy laptop also comes up with the second picture, once I minimise the second picture it all works and you can play it, only does this sometimes others times works straight of as you would expect it to, have you any ideas why this is ?

Go into the preferences in MFME and untick Snapshot Reminder, that may stop that happening.

...so...

...I don't know if this is apporiate to bring up as this is an arcade - but this image here is kind of perfect for classic layouts if they were to ever be added as a side room in the arcade or something like that.  Just a thought... :)

It looks to have failed to do the dll injection stuff.

So, to confirm does it work sometimes, and not other times...?  Or does it now not ever work at all?

If it works sometimes, this is probably down to the laptop being slow/struggling to run it, perhaps the dll stuff is not running in time... though Andy Capp is only MPU4 so not very demanding.

If it now doesn't work at all, and failed every time (with the green message in the top right about the dll test file not found) - then I think it would be that the virus killer has deleted the dll file altogether.

Ah ok, glad you got it working! :)  I'm not sure why it didn't work at first, someone else had that also... so many bugs with this bloomin' scraper system.

Outstanding work @johnparker007 I am in awe of what you have created for us all so far. For some reason, being able to walk around an arcade and walk up to and play a machine feels so much more authentic than just loading MFME on its own and its so much more immersive. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to the multiplayer element, that has got me really excited. Loving the amazing work here.

Also I've just bought a new 165hz monitor and compared to playing on my old 60hz monitor, it is silky smooth and looks amazing

Just to add, ive not played many machines, but on the ones I played, all seemed OK and worked as intended except for 'nudge it' which errored on startup the first time, then loaded fine the 2nd so not really much of a bug, more like realism if you ask me.

Thanks man :) good to hear it works on your 165Hz monitor - I only have a 60Hz display to test on over here!

Yeah, multiplayer's a long way off, but a feature I'm committed too - it should be a lot of fun! :)

'nudge it' which errored on startup the first time, then loaded fine the 2nd
Thanks for this, I've added to the bug sheet - I need to sort out the 'base' ram, then it should be fixed for future new users.

@GingeUnfortunately that is not a solution here... the dll issue means that it's not patching mfme to use it's hidden Arcade Sim 'parallel' preferences.

So any preferences you set in MFME, will be ignored when Arcade Sim is working correctly, as I've patched MFME to read/write to a different set of preferences.

When we get your dll issue resolved (unless it's down to the laptop struggling to run it), that should fix this issue.

Interesting idea :)  Support for classic layouts is a low priority right now, mainly due to it being a large amount of work... but it certainly is possible... so it's not ruled out, just focussing on the DX's for quite a while yet.

This cabinet will hopefully run MAME for the actual touchscreen quiz game roms, with a clickable/touchable screen... though for MAME I want to do a different rendering system to this 'scraping' as it causes so many problems!  So MAME will be a while yet...

I was playing Crystal Maze and decided to switch the reel bounce off, so exited and took it off, then went back and the machine loaded in the background and you hear it playing, but couldn't play it in the arcade.

Then none of the machines would work.

So exited the arcade completely and reloaded it and non of the machines working.

Another exit and reload and now machines loading correctly again.

Is there a log or anything that players can send or attach for you to see what is happening.

One other thing, the lamps on Crackpot are extremely spongy and jumpy, not sure if that a known issue. I seem to remember some talk about this machine before.

Hey JP, love the arcade as you know, just wanted to share my own opinion on the reel lamps, they really flicker when spinning as i would expect but imo they're really bright, of course its all in the experimental stages as i fully appreciate, all i ask is maybe one day a setting could be added to change the brightness of the reel lamps, and i do think it would be wise to warn any photosensitive epilepsy suffering people tbh.. but its still just too cool for school dude and i apologize if my criticism offends, i purely wish to help. :)

John did mention these are ‘proof of concept’ settings and they can be switched off by the user anyway.  He also mentions a slider option when he gets to that stage.

Thanks bud. Like I say I only mean to help, I do my best to stay updated on things but admit that I am not aware of every update etc. I thought it best to say my opinion and I’m aware it’s all experimental at present. Can’t praise this man enough!!

I have some ideas for things that may improve this, but the fundamental problem is the scraper is not a reliable method at present, especially if the user is on a lower end system where the graphics are struggling.

"One other thing, the lamps on Crackpot are extremely spongy and jumpy" ... do you mean the reels?  Would recommend keeping Reel Physics setting disabled for now if it's causing issues on your system, as the current version reel physics kinda breaks down at lower framerate.

Would recommend disabling the experimental 'Post Process Bloom' setting if you have enabled it - that will reduce the reel brightness somewhat.  I've made a note to add an 'epilepsy warning' to the loading screen, as fruit machines and video games do have a lot of rapid flashing in general.  The reel lamps are just a first pass for now, until the normalisation system has been developed a reel lamp brightness setting would be tricky, as the base reel images differ in brightness between layouts.  I've may add an experimental setting when I have done the UI work required for proper settings menu.

Edit: added warning :)

Hey reg sorry for late answer. Its a great idea with the classics but i think the screen would be to small. Maybe i could build a better solution for these classics with a bigger screen like this one.

Classics could also have a 'dark color scheme' option, like I did for MAME classic layouts (so they blend in a bit more in the dark arcades):

How about a bunch of assets, like the mechanics room with loads of arcade spares, then some desktop pcs running mfme classics, bit of a behind the scenes view, homepage to those early years when DX’s weren’t a thing ;).

Obviously way down on the list, I class this kind of thing like hidden secrets, Easter eggs etc.

Awesome news on the Genesis cab! :)  I will have some problems to solve as it again has a curved button panel (like the Horizon cabinet that Stars Wars was in).  Hopefully I can do a workaround like I did for the Barcrest cabinets so we can get them working sooner, as it's not as complex as the Horizon (no overlapping curves) 🤞

Bear in mind the classic layouts will not be getting looked at for a looong time yet, there is a lot of work to do on DX layouts first... but always cool to have more cabinet models ready!  :)

I don’t think classics running in the original cabs or even a cab will blend into an arcade environment personally.  Should definitely have its own space away from the eye candy ;)

All sound like fun ideas :)  Like mentioned above, classics are really a long way away... but they are technically doable... so could be a good feature once we have all the DXs done.

Minor update - new patch is live, as I needed to get a critical fix out for a new issue (freeze on black screen after install if MFME not already installed).

Containss these fixes, plus a couple of other minor improvements:

Definitely my crappy laptop works sometimes ☹️. Just got to convince the wife I need to buy a new one wish me luck 🤣.Have put it on my bar top cabinet which has a Lenovo m93p/tiny with the specs below and it works fine but does sound as if it’s struggling a bit.
