I could do a klarna deal, so it'd be a brand new laptop in the 300 to 330 quid area.. would that suffice?? what specs do i need? ram UHD graphics card?? any suggestions seen on amazom etc would really help as totally clueless

I'll have a look for you tomorrow woodsy, although TBH I still think you'll struggle at that price point, the graphics card market is all kind of screwed up at the moment thanks to the global chip shortage and crypto miners bulk buying new cards before they even get into the regular supply chain, plus increased demand for graphics hardware in general, which has caused used prices to rocket.

As such any machine (including laptops) that has any kind of gaming credentials is costing far more than it should do, be it used or new.

I've just had a look on eBay and used GTX1080s have buy it now prices of around £400, which is bonkers money for the card in 2021, I didn't pay that much more for mine when I bought it brand new just over three years ago!

All electronic components are really difficult to get hold of, I am designing electronics for use in broadcast and just a simple buck regulator used in lots of standard things to get the volts down from 12 to 3.3v are not available until August 2022! so I thought change from Texas instruments chip to a different manufacture, theirs are not available till September 2022! all these are from the manufactures websites too! I guess the factory that caught fire and burned for 4 days in china that makes a lot of chips doesn't help!! There is also a shortage of surface mount capacitors too. It is very much a nightmare at the moment so can quite believe everything electronic will rise in price!

Hey dude l, I tried my fairly low spec mame cab and was extremely surprised that AS was very playable in this.

My mame cab specs are

Intel i5 2500k Quad Core
GT710 2GB (Very low spec discrete graphics card)
8GB DDR3 memory

Reels were slow but I disabled reel physics and everything works just fine.

Thanks for testing it man :)  I may try to rewrite the reel physics at some point so it'll work at lower framerates (I'm not sure how straightforward this will be though).

Ah buggers, I wonder if this is an anti-virus false positive causing issues...

Do you have some green text up in the top right corner of the screen (something like "Dll Failed, please tell John") after starting a machine up?

No messages, all works fine as you walk around, when a machine is selected  it looks like mfme doesn't start, saying that, I have got red must to work a couple of times! when the machine is selected, the ones next to it continue in attract mode, so it's not frozen, if no one else has reported it I wouldn't worry, I'll have another play tomorrow,  thanks again John

Hmm well if they sometimes do work, then I guess that it isn't anti-virus software causing an issue - as if it were deleting the dll stuff, then the machines would never work (and you'd have the green message up in the top-right).

Do you still have the HUD enabled?  So that you can see the names of the machines up in the top-left?  I think the green warning message is part of the HUD (so it would be hidden if the machine names are also not up in the top-left due to the HUD being hidden).

It may be worth trying @cja272's suggestion above also:

"...right click on the arcade simulator desktop icon then click run as administrator and then the machines work"

One day I'd like to diagnose and fix all these issues, but it's tricky (as I can't reproduce them here).

If you are still having issues, please do post back as there's quite a few more diagnostic steps we could try, and it might lead to me being able to get a fix made (that will also help others in future) - cheers :)

Just wanted to say I just got Arcade Sim running and it's awesome! I'm sure there's lots to do but it put a big enough grin on my face to send over some money! Great frontend and I guess thanks to everyone over the years who have done the artwork / got the ROMs etc. (I don't really understand it all but great job team!)

Cheers

Wow that is interesting - good call @cja272!

I have made a note, as if I could figure out how to reproduce this, maybe I can come up with a proper fix at some point... glad you're up and running anyway :)

Glad its worked for you!!!

When you described the problem it just sounded like the problem i have been having and i came across this fix , have you got Norton as i think its something to do with that?

I don't use Norton, its unusual because I never had the issue before the latest update, at least I can enjoy the arcade again, thanks

Sorry to hear that bud - unfortunately it is just as the guys above have said, your integrated graphics hardware isn't up to the task, there is no workaround/fix for this.

Glad to hear it's working well on your set up - the Arcade Editor feature will be getting worked on, and available further down the line, along with other fruit machines in other cabinets :)

Many thanks for permission to use your layouts, much appreciated :)

i just tired it on my other comnputer same never mind

Ooo, one thing I've not figured out, the COB, or DOB button, what key does it tend to be?

Talking of DOND, or varients, the DOND reel should be covered up.  I mean, I like that it isn't, just saying :)

Thanks!!!!!

I believe the mirror over the DOND reel, is considered a reel lamp, so hopefully they will simply work, once reel lamps are implemented.

A couple for the layout bug sheet.

Same issue appears to affect two machines.

Wild Jackpots and Rise To the Top, the hi-lo reel is unreadable due to corruption.

Thanks - was aware and know what the problem is, but now added to the bug sheet.

Not sure offhand what keyboard shortcuts are, should be same as the layout in MFME.  I have a low priority feature in backlog to implement this (so you'll be able to view them per machine).

Mirrored reels will be done at a later stage.

Sorry to hear that bud - unfortunately it's a hard limit, if the graphics hardware doesn't support compute buffers.

That is true, they are not implemented - we'll probably be getting 'normal' reel lamps sonner, then 'red reels', then mirrored reels - all further down the line.
