I think you can still upgrade to windows 10 for free.

This is correct. You can still upgrade for free, just look for the windows 10 media creation tool.

Not been on for a bit but this was the first topic I came to and wow what a way this has come. Great work JP! When we going for a beer?

I'm in @slasher and will gladly pay, haven't seen you around the forums for a bit but good to see you are still floating like a turd in a toilet💩

If someone could make JP the 3D models things would possibly move more quickly.

Remember, JP is working alone on this epic project in his spare time, he will slowly build the other cabs but till then he can only work on getting machines in that are come in the cabs he already has.

Time to put the dedicated graphics in my new laptop to good use and test this out. Looks awesome well done.

Shame you cant just walk up to a machine and play straight away without having to wait for it to boot, but thats just crazy talk surely. Would be impossible to have something like that unless you had a monster setup that could handle a ton of emulations running at the same time?

Had to post after trying it out, this is the most incredible piece of work I have ever seen.  It's just superb the way it has all been put together so hats off to JohnParker.

Few humble suggestions as the project develops - perhaps put in some banks of Lo-Tech machines, a fake change machine, an entrance/exit to the arcade and a few BACTA responsible gambling posters or suchlike on the walls?

Can't wait for the next release.  Thanks again.

Wow! This has come along leaps and bounds. Even works on my basic Lenovo Ideapad 330S lappy although slightly slows down when I select a game to play. (CASH MATRIX.... :4_joy: SKILL will once again be doable if that's added ha ha)... Love the way that when you leave a machine you were playing, the reel symbols stay faithful to the last spin played.

How does anyone create such fantastic things in their spare time? Chris with the emulator, and John Parker with this. In my spare time, I just about get time to jet wash the the patio. And I even fucked that up, sending the soil from the gaps in the paving all over the french doors. The other half ain't best pleased.

Wow a lot of posts on this thread at the mo!  Been having a bit of a break over this weekend, more beer-focused, less coding-focused... ;)

Firstly, thanks very much @Chopaholic for your donation to the project, and for the lovely video you made! :)

Right, let me try reply to queries raised apologies if I've missed anyone:

If I may ask ( and @Tommy c is ok with it ), could you add DOND - Crazy Chair.  That IMO is the best ever DOND.

Speaking of that one I am not sure if it had an upload here either - @Tommy c do you know if you ever did ?

Sure thing :)  I don't seem to have the layout, so I'd need that - I've just been downloading layouts from here for the moment (but not the Legacy packs, just the single uploads).  But it should get it soonish, as it'll presumably be in an Eclipse cab, and not have anything I haven't built yet (like band reels).

....... It's be nice in the future, to have all the classics in one spot, then the more modern ones in another place.  Sort of like the "retro" bandit arcades are set out.

Agreed :)  The arcade is a bit haphazard for now, as there's lot to do on the Editor (I'm using the editor that all users will have access to once I've worked more stuff out)... but ultimately the 'default' arcade wil be more organised.  You'll also be able to play arcades other users have built, if they have chosen to share them via the online functionality (not yet built).

Just tried loading on a borrowed laptop comes up with IPersistfile failed code 0x80070005 Access is denied

@fits I suspect this is down to issues we are seeing with third party virus killer software, mistaking certain parts of Arcade Sim as potentially malicious software.  On the borrowed laptop, does it have some antivirus security software installed, such as Norton etc?  As these get reported, I'm generally trying to then get those antivirus companies to whitelist the relevant Arcade Sim files... so then it will hopefully fix the issue, for everyone with that security software.

Thanks man :)  I've been going for quite a few beers recently, feel like I need to let my liver recover!  Do you still go through Sheffield train station sometimes for your work then?  Could maybe squeeze a couple in one time if you're passing through 🍻

would love to see monte carlo or bust or miami dice or even reno reels come to arcade simulator

These machines are planned, though it's getting the time to both work on the cabinet model, and also these are video machines so there'll be more work there (I haven't done video machine stuff yet).  So these machines will be quite a bit down the line, just due to there being these things that need implementing first.

That is something I thought about.  Currently, the older techs boot up pretty quickly, as I'm making MFME run 'unthrottled' so it runs as fast as your CPU can run it, until it has booted, then it goes back to normal speed.  On Scoprtion 5/MPU5 machines with DES, they are still slow, even with this approach, as the DES stuff is computationally expensive.  With MAME< I can probably implement save states for all techs one day, with MFME this is unfortunately not possible, as Chris is no longer with us.

I did have an idea (that may end up as an 'Experimental' option at some point, where it'd pre-emptively load machines up in the background that you are need - so then it could have them paused, ready to start if you chose them.  This feature isn't a priority for now, though I may add it at some point.  It does mean as you walk around your CPU fan will be whirring away all the time though (as it's doing unthrottled startups in the background all the time for machines you might play), so I'm not sure how great it will be!

Thanks man :)  There will be other machines, though this will take time (both to build 3d cabinet models, and convert).  In terms of things like change machines, posters, entrance/exit - a lot of this will happen at some future point, as the Editor is expanded to support 'Walls' and 'Props'.  So then there will be tings like fire extinguishers, posters, non-rectangular arcades etc.  Not low priority, but also, not urgent in comparison to adding machines, and things related to that side of it all...

DLL test file not found.  Please let John know!  @johnparker007

Thanks for the info!  :) Ok, so can I ask, - are you seeing this message every time you start up a machine?  Or is it just very occasionally?

For slower PCs (including my test PC) I've seen this happen sometimes, which I do need to work no.  However, if it's happening very time, I'd bet it's down to some anti-virus software on your PC that has nuked either the .dlls/dll injector.  What anti-virus software do you have installed please? :)

I don't mate, but I'm not even an hour on one of those rickety Northern rail tin can trains away so will make time at some point when you're free as well, probably be towards the end of next month or early October though but definitely sort something!

Wonder what AS would look like with a vertical touch screen that's on the interplay. Need to find a decent micro win10 pc to wack in it haha

Will betcom machines make an appearance in this app

There is one already in; Wok 'n' Roll - more will definitely be on the way as they fit in the Eclipse cabinet which is already modelled :)

@johnparker007This was the first time I've seen it come up with that error.  Played it since, fine.  It was Vecs Game of Gnomes that caused it.  Not done it since.

Thanks for this info - I've made a note, on my bugs list :)  I'll perhaps have something that relaunches a machine when it detects this type of one off failure has occurred (that, or further refinements to how I do the dll stuff)... I definitely saw the same thing once on my slower PC I use for testing :)

Free time is always the challenge!  :)  I've just checked and portrait doesn't currently work properly, both in terms of UI and camera (it's too zoomed in when playing machines) - here's a 1080x1920 screenshot:
image.png.a06a26b90f038047bbbd4b62ae4220f2.png
I've added a bug, though not sure when I'll get to it, as I'd not really envisaged it being used in portrait!  I guess really this is more about adding a 'cabinet mode' to some extent... for that I'd had the idea that one would put 2x screens into a cabinet, and then it could output one glass to each screen (upper and lower).  And I guess potentially an RGB color-coded set of buttons along the bottom for tactile buttons and/or one of those touch screen modification kits per screen.

Thanks for the update John - I've made a follow-on video, although this was done before I'd read your most recent post :)

Oh wow another video, that was quick!  :) Thanks for testing it out on your PCs, seems to roughly align with what we've been seeing; choppy performance on integrated GPUs, better performance on discreet GPUs (and of course not working on older GPUs that don't support the Computer Buffers feature).

It's all still just an elaborate tech demo/test for now really - though it's nice to see enthusiasm for it, even in these early stages... I think with another 10 months development, it'll be a lot more presentable/less buggy/more feature complete :)

This is seriously getting better and better.

If it continues to progress as planned, I can see a future, where I will probably play MFME via the arcade interface.

Will try to not point out bugs already mentioned and seen, so have done a search on the thread. Indiana Jones pays out in 20p's only, not sure if that's a known issue.

Thanks man :)  I've set up a machine-specific bugs spreadsheet in it's own post in this section, so it's easier to track stuff...

do we add our collection ourselves, or is that a development update from yourself ?

Thanks man :)  New machines come as development updates from me as I build them... hope to get back to working on that later this week.
