R.I.P. wizard i never met you but we chatted a few times your work inspired me to try and help keep the classics alive and learn how to dump roms etc, ive found another load that are going to take some work to make them available to the community but as soon as I've set my new station up I'll get them on here ive already spotted a few rare ones that hopefully enhance your work and will make some happy, thanks again for your efforts Chris youre a legend

Incredibly sad news.

His emulator has given me more pleasure than i can remember. booting up old classics like razzle dazzle have always put a smile on my face. Having grieved in the past myself, my heart felt condolences go to his family.

When the dust has settled, I would love to hear from his friends here about his journey with mfme, and he love of retro gaming.

Thank you Chris, may you rest in peace.

Wizard, Rest In Peace,

When I joined the FME community as a young naive 10 year old, I never knew the wisdom this man had, in the last few years, I truly have understood what he did for this scene and will only ever remember the man as the master of FME and in my opinion, he will never be replaced,

Chris - God Bless You!

Very sad, had years of pleasure from his work and the scene he created.

Thought it was a great thing Chris did when he updated MFME and released it in 2016.

Gave the scene a 2nd more civilized chapter in may respects.

Didn't know him that well, but he stuck me as private, but also generous guy in the help he gave people here.

Just been sat here in complete disbelief at the news for about the last 45 minutes, staring at the screen and not knowing what to do or say.

Thanks for what you did Chris, no matter what politics and disagreements happened over the years. MFME (and before that MPU34, and before that the old 'fruit' emulator?) are some of the very few apps I've had on every PC I've used without fail, normally soon after putting Windows on.

55 isn't much of an age and I wish I knew more about Chris. Does he have a wife? Kids? Is there anything we as a community could do for them if so? It's probably too late now, what with the funeral just a couple of days away, Covid e.t.c. but just feel so helpless and wish I could do something.

Wtf, I'm stunned amongst angry, upset and not afraid to say this as have tears welling up like I bet some others do. I had to go out earlier just to try and process it as started typing this, I'm thinking this is a bad dream or something as I didn't want to snap at anyone for no reason.

I can't believe, I don't believe it, I won't believe it, he can't leave us he is one of the good guys, one of the unselfish ones, one of the greats, sorry but feeling a little emotional and I have never met the man, the genius, the one we all went to with our emulator problems. I have never met Chris but feel like I knew him like layout creators for what they bring to this world, our world. Ifelt a bond!!

Everytime I touch my keyboard to play, anytime I am in the forums, I always thought of him and even though it is not in real life I felt connected to him but when I have got my head around this I will think of the good times, the laughs and how he was so curt at times and even refused to speak to me at some point, I don't blame him as he was what he was and he was most probably right. We only just done Wine for Wizard and it was all going fantastic then this😢

I sit here tonight still feeling uneasy and will have a few drinks on him but will raise a glass to say this to you Wizard.....

Christian Wren you gave over 20 years of unselfishness, love and greatness to Emulation World with your dedication, creativity and love. You have been through the highs the lows, the good times and the bad times but you stuck with us and carried on your hard work to give us all pleasure and enjoyment. I am deeply saddened and upset that you left us so sudden and I will truly miss everything about you. Much love old friend and if your spirit is floating about feel free to kick my rear sometimes as you knew I needed it. Do you remember when I joined and how you was trying to tell me stuff but I hadn't a bloody clue, you took your time to educate me then guided me with a few others.

Love you mate and hope you rest peacefully, I will always remember you in my heart as the gentleman who helped me and sacrificed a lot for others.

Goodbye but keep looking down on us.

Jason

@Reg if there is anything I can do for his family or if any of us can attend his funeral I would be glad to come and pay my respects, if it is private or a no I fully understand but would like you to send my condolences to his loved ones in any case.

Thank you

An early and clumsy attempt from me, I'll do something better in the next couple of weeks, maybe get some input from other scene members and create a fitting tribute for Chris if folks are up for it, these are just my first raw reactions.

Truly terrible news.

Welcome to the world if helplessness, I so get what you are feeling here and feel beyond empty at the moment.

He didn't have a wife or kids, at least in the twenty years that I had known him.  What does give me some comfort is the funeral is not that near where he lived, Ipswich.

This gives me some comfort that he is likely being buried near his family.  I know that he had a father as of at least a year or so ago who moved after his mum died, I have a gut feeling it was the Ipswich area.  I think he also has a sister so there will be family there with him which is good during the Covid world we live in.

I would happily tear down this site and burn every copy of MFME I ever had for Chris to still be alive.  I know and can image he would be saying as we used to chat on Skype, "Don't be so bloody stupid - do you know how much work I put into this".

You are right Reg he would want us to go on and continue and that does not surprise me as he did have a sense of humour and was very direct. We can't have him back but we can still keep him in our hearts and minds, he may not be able to continue his work but he will be with us always.

That was amazing and when you first started you started me off again, I feel that emptiness, I feel the loss, thank you for this as it shows compassion and empathy.

Take care fella.

I am genuinly saddened and upset by this news. I remember Alex posting on a pinball forum 20 years ago regarding this fruit machine emulator that played real games. There were only simulators around at the time, some that I'd purchased for £6-£10 pound each, and then there was the emulator playing Nifty Fifty and Alphabet. It was unbelievable. More unbelievable then the first time I'd seen MAME. I was ready to purchase a copy and then a version became available to download and the rest is history.

My late mother used to play the emulator before she passed away in 2004. Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink, Seven Heaven, etc all playable because of one man and his great ability to code an emulator. She would spend hours playing the games that she played at the local Mecca.

I hope that your passing was without pain and that when you passed, you realised how many lives you touched with your gift and how many lives you have potentially saved through your great emulator

RIP Chris (Genius)
