AK45
hi guys i found this article from 1987 and wondered what the order of success would be now in 2020 ? the sheer amount of machines being made back then were huge but i guess in the nineties it was even more ? anyway what do you think is the current state of play regarding this success rate over the years ? https://www.lentontimes.co.uk/images/gallery/leen_gate/leen_gate_listener_44.htm In the United Kingdom the annual market requirement approximates to 60,000 fruit machines (installed in pubs and amusement arcades) and 8-10,000 Jackpot machines in private clubs. Five major manufacturers, all British, compete for this business. JPM, a South Wales firm, are probably the market leaders, but Bell-Fruit, which shares second place with Barcrest (part of the Bass Group), is always looking to increase its market share 2 For Fruit Machine Preview Video's https://www.youtube.com/@akfortyfive4574/playlists These video's created by me are solely to showcase the talent of the creators and all who helped in bringing these machines to life, they are in no way a guide on how to play the machine or show how to exploit it
slasher
"Bell-Fruit place a heavy emphasis on making sure that its products are going to be well received." real shame this stopped when £100s came out and they went down the flat as a fart profile route! You mean Dond.
slasher
No mate. Hardly any of the donds were copies of each other, they all had their own quirks and were good games if you took time to learn how to play them... that is until the £100s came about then they started churning out shitty flat profiles. Originally donds had lumpy profiles so people had several different ways/chances of getting a jackpot. Before they were figured out completely, a core player could get a quick jackpot yet Joe casual could jump on and hit cash or bust for jackpot, or spawn a lucky go all the way, so it wasn't always lose lose lose for casuals 1

Mr Move It
As a casual, I agree with what Slasher wrote. I had my ups and downs with £35 era and early £70 era (mostly £35-£70 conversions), but also managed numerous quick GATW boards. Later £70s and £100 were a no-go for me. As for most successful manufacturer (after JPM!) I would probably say Bell-Fruit. That's because I've known of their presence throughout all of my playing days and BFM were the last one standing. It seems to me that manufacturers post-BFM, like Reflex and Betcom were just a copy of a copy. Going back to JPM - they are the same company as Sega. I remember watching an old James Bond film from the 1960s. You have the obligatory casino scene and their machines had Sega written on them. In the 1990s, JPM made a fruit called Sonic The Hedgehog which fits as that is Sega territory.
