QuebecTango
Having joined to see if I can find the old 2p machine I used to feed every Friday night, I've caught the bug and now feel compelled to build my own. I've designed the cabinet, as simple bar top one with no money in/out and a display harvested from an old laptop. I've sourced all the internal gubbins, power supply for buttons and the buttons themselves, controller boards (ipac, USB instant and display interface) and a micro PC to run it all. Current bill is £175 and I've only got an aspiration to show for it at present. I may have questions but I think, for now, I'm happy to explore this myself. Thank you for giving my missus another headache as I litter the house with random crap... again. I'll post updates when there's something to show.
QuebecTango
I love it when you design a housing and it fits perfectly on the first attempt I've designed the button inserts too. I haven't touched a sheet of MDF yet though, that's once I've got all the components.
QuebecTango
Busy day at work... not. Printed the fascia, fitted the buttons, wired them to the USB controller board, installed JoyToKey, mapped the buttons and tested on Test Pilot. Bingo!

I used my carbon fibre smooth plate which transfers the carbon fibre pattern onto the surface of the print.
QuebecTango
PacDrive wired up and lamps assigned in MFME. Pleased to see it working exactly as expected. No pictures as static images really don't convey the thrill of flashing lights. Cabinet manufacture begins tomorrow.
vangorp
Hi, what a great project! I was looking for the Random Runner ROM myself, but it’s not exactly easy to find, so I’m currently creating my own PC version. I’ve already replicated the logic one-to-one, and the symbols on the reels are exactly the same—and in the exact same positions—as the originals. I’d like to build a real cabinet for it, too ,for now is this my test version .

QuebecTango
Still nine more things left on the job list but the test fitting and wiring has gone well. Made a few changes to the original design but it's looking more or less like the concept so far. 5

Popped off the front with a small screwdriver, designed the buttons in Photoshop, printed them on colour laser, cut to fit the button, snapped the front back on. Ah fair play. They look good. Mine are just printed with a crappy b + w sticker printer and don't look the best, but not sure its worth the effort trying to replace them. QuebecTango
I don't think I've ever sworn this much at an inanimate object. The interior is proving a nightmare. But I shall prevail!
