reggert48
I recently came across several blacklisted layouts which ofcourse won't run in mfme 20, but run fine in mfme 19. Now the big question is: Is there a way to somehow fix these layouts, so they won't be blacklisted in mfme 20 or do you need to build the layout from the ground up again to be accepted by mfme 20 ? I don't know much about editing or creating a layout, just curious if there is an easy fix or not. regards, reggert48

Or you could wait until someone creates the layout to replace the blacklisted one.

stevedude2
I've wondered the same thing recently - a way of extracting all the graphics, components and their properties from the blacklisted layout and then loading them into a blank one. I suspect the component data is embedded within the .fml and cannot be extracted.
Chopaholic
For my money this was one of the worst ideas Chris ever had, bless his soul. Deliberately breaking backwards compatibility within your own emulator, for whatever reason, is locking in future problems and issues, guaranteed. I remember when he first implemented it I penned most of a really long PM setting out the case against it, but then deleted it before sending it, because once Chris made his mind up about something, that was kind of it. At the time we had no way of knowing Chris wouldn't even be with us for much longer, and in the here and now we can work around it by maintaining V19 and V20 as 'current' MFME versions, but taken in the round it's a net minus for FME that it was ever done at all. What I was thinking was how has he blacklisted some games - I mean v20 must be looking for something in every file loaded up to determine whether it is a blacklisted game - a signature in the blacklisted fml files I presume. From memory it's something to do with this text string here, I think. 1 Fruit machine emulation content from the artist previously known as Degsy Degworth and the odd new thing here and there too - https://www.youtube.com/c/DegsyDegworth
thealteredemu
I think it checked more things too as I believe Vectra complained some of his layouts where blacklisted, ones where he’d received some kind of help with layout assets? Vectra might be able to be more specific. But Chris did make changes and more blacklisted layouts became playable I believe J
wearecity
I too, wasn't keen on layouts being blacklisted, but had to respect Wizards decision, as afterall, it's his emulator. Also, originally, the blacklisted layout list was much bigger, but after some layout designers complained, whatever was needed to be done, was, so the blacklisted layout list, was much reduced. Some people have more blacklisted layouts than others, because they have downloaded or bought layouts modified by Slotz. Not that I'm saying it's their fault, as in most cases I suspect they had no idea. Some things you can try. 1/ Download the layout from the legacy section here, some will work, because it's not a version, modified and claimed by Slotz. In some cases, the mods applied by Slotz, weren't that much, so you might be missing out on not having in and output sounds, having an old style alpha or unneeded 7 segs overlays for instance, all stuff that aren't essential and can be altered by users themselves. 2/ Slotz uploaded versions of some of his layouts, that will work. He uploaded them to this site as well, in a thread, which I can't find, but maybe you can. 3/ Download an alternative layout from the legacy section. Many alternative layouts are still very decent and function 100% the same.
