What is a good front end for a non touch screen cabinet. The good ones seem to be for touch screen only. I’m looking for Something easy to set up and maintain. I just need something basic really with the ability to add pictures of each machine and select and exit to the menu etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated

No its basically a mouse click or on a touch screen a finger press, and then a one press/click to load a game.

If you press arrow up/down once you can then press the space bar to move up/down.

My mates working on another version but is having old age parent problems so work on a newer version is on hold, the newer version will have a search option and you'll be able press manufacturer buttons, Barcrest, JPM, MayGay etc. and all the games associated with that will load up. It's designed to work in a cabinet but will also work for yourself who just want a font end on their PC.

Basically the idea was to keep the size to a minimum, nothing fancy and no thrills which suits some people, there are all singing and dancing versions but I suppose its down to personal choice. @clarkster

Yeah I am looking for something that can be used with just button presses and not mouse or touch input ideally. I will have a play around with it anyway though thanks for the advice. The new version sounds like a great idea I will keep an eye out for it being released

@davep180 There is this version but I have not completed it well not enough to release it, its a complete re-write in a completely different language.

Although it looks like the older release its a big improvement a lot fast as everything is newer plus it opens other avenues of development as the previous language had some restrictions.

@clarkster look in settings you can basically setup everything how you want it with different keys, hide or show touch controls, etc,

Funny enough the domain I used to use has just expired, I didn't renew it from memory this new version was linked to a forum on the site allowing syncing and things but its been a while since I did that code.

Been busy with lots of other things so this kind of went on the back burner but if I get enough requests I might spend some time on it.

This looks really promising is there a way to exit a layout back to the selection screen? The only way I can get it to work is by pressing escape to bring up the minimised mfme screen as shown then pressing escape again. Is that normal or am I missing something

Gonna have a read of the other threads to see how to make it look pretty with screenshots etc

Looking at the screenshot, it doesn't appear you have the images in the folders or they are not named correctly as you should see a view similar to what i posted, the header gives it away that the layout looks collapsed although I dont think i have seen a collapsed layout before.

When you start mfme it will go to a splash screen as it loads the rom and then when you exit mfme it will return to fruitbar,

Do I need a separate folder inside each game rom folder or can I put all the images in one folder.

what do I name the folder ? I tried adding a theme folder in each rom directory and taking a screenshot with f8 and placing it in the folder but not having any luck.

Im sure it’s something simple I’m missing just can’t figure it out

I can select and choose the games but can’t get the screenshots to show

In this release these are the rough instructions on how to set things up,

Create a rom folder and put all your roms in there lets say you have a rom folder called "Bank Roller £100 Dx" with the rom its self called "Bank Roller".

In the rom folder "Bank Roller £100 Dx" create a folder called "Theme"

In the theme folder you place your image files, the first file is called the same as the rom name in this case the rom is called "Bank Roller"

so in the theme folder place your top logo named Bank Roller.png

The main cabinet view should be called Bank Roller_back.png

Any other roms are named the same way the top image is a copy of the rom name and the _back file is for the cabinet,

so....

rom1.png

rom1_back.png

rom2.png

rom2_back.png

So every rom you setup needs a theme folder and the images named correctly

Idea image sizes, are cabinet 550 pixel wide, top image 250 wide but you could make them large if you wanted to but remember bigger images means it will work slower.

Two example images to get you started,

You can turn off the touch screens so they wont be visible and you can use the settings to place everything where you want it and resize it to build the view you want,

Hope this helps,

There are options to use audio and video files from memory and even marquee a screen if you have one

Thanks for the information appstrader. I was trying that method earlier but couldn’t get it to work. I was using screenshots taken by pressing f8 in mfme as the image files and if I recall correctly they were jpg so that may have been the problem.

I will give it another go tomorrow as I have everything else working and I like the app so hopefully will carry on using it once I get the hang of adding the images

Sorry to be a pain but I IMG_0468.thumb.jpeg.947d50e081eb069cd3aa9087d2f217d7.jpeghave followed the instructions. I even downloaded the high roller rom to match the images. Everything is set up correctly as far as I can see but it still doesn’t want to pick up the image files for some reason. I can play the games fine I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong

Morning,

Looking at the .png naming you have numbers that need removing plus you don't have a space inbetween BankRoller so simply rename the images to the name of the gam file from memory i.e Bank Roller.png and Bank Roller_back.png

Once you take this step it should start to be shown.

Tried it but still no luck. Even deleted and reinstalled mfme, deleted the fruitbar configuration documents from my documents and repopulated all the files IMG_0477.thumb.jpeg.bacd051ca487d7da59c0a512405ad8d1.jpeg

Fruitbar is not connected to mfme so shouldn't need to reinstall, name the images the same as the .gam file, from memory this is where it gets the name from, not near a PC to offer much assistance but there will be posts around configuration on here.

I got it working. Thank you for your help appstrader it’s much appreciated.

What’s the best way to go about acquiring the png files for the logo and cabinet. I tried taking a screenshot with mfme for the cabinet image via the F8 key but that saves as a jpg file. I tried then converting it to png with an online conversion tool but still doesn’t seem to work?IMG_0487.thumb.jpeg.83ad8daad334a33c73ca132c03332bb3.jpeg

Managed to work it out by using the snipping tool and saving as png. Then cutting the logo part out of the cabinet image. Unless anyone can recommend a better way ?

Looks good !! , you just need a graphic program that will allow you to leave transparency the site used to host hundreds of images so you didn't have to build your own.  Not sure if i have the old images.

You can alter the sizes so you see the edges of the machines either side or go bigger, etc but you seem to of grasped the concept !

Yeah I have been playing around with creating the image files I’m getting the hang of it slowly but surely.I did manage to find a nice collection of logos online so that makes it a lot easier. Although if you happen to stumble across your old ones and fancy putting a link up I would be very grateful.

Next on the list is getting the videos working. Are there any specific instructions for that process such as changing the file name or format? I have had a play around putting em in the theme folders. Also tried enabling the video intro using the stake menu but it just opens a new browser type window(see screenshot ).

It really is a great front end and if you decide to get back on track with the development I would be happy to make a donation for all the hard work and help.

If anyone else wants any of the logos and videos collection I would be happy to upload them somewhere if that’s allowed? Is there anything provided on here for artwork etc?

You have the version that allows you to add html into the slider, so it could be a video, image, animation etc basically what ever you wish to add into the box.

Never really had the uptake so a lot of features were more there for me as no one seemed too interested to be honest.

There is the option to play a sound as you navigate to a rom also, not a lot of people know that.

As an example the new version announces the rom with no files or anything, its simply built in and a lot faster then the previous release,

This one is running okay, although no settings to position or resize things just yet and no slide out videos yet but works with keyboard, mouse, touch controls although not checked on the gestures just yet.

No marquee display either but it will play fine and its much faster as it uses the latest technology so png files as they are obsolete, things got a lot smaller and a lot faster and more optomised for speed.

This release did sync to the last site that was online, so it would allow the rom list to download all the images required straight from the site or you could select custom images uploaded by other users so seamlessly all the images required would just be there.

I should probably put more time into this but with little to no demand you have to ask if it's worth the time and trouble to develop it further or I should keep it on my own cabinet as a lot of old features were never really known about, not hidden but no one was too interested.

Ah ok so I need to point this window to the video file? Could you please simplify it step by step as I have no idea what to do

The new version sounds like it would be great if you ever manage to get the time to complete it. It’s a shame there wasn’t much interest but then I guess it is quite a niche little hobby we all have. The idea of having the ability to sync to the site and the images already being there sounds like it save a lot of time

It's been a while since I gave out the release you have, i believe you might need a .web file named how you do

In the .web file you simply create the html script that points to the video file with auto play enabled,

Not simple if your not too brilliant with things like web pages, but once you have a web page it would simply be a case of editing the video file in each web file,

I will send a file on message which will help,
