Bar-X 5 and Bar-X 10

Not long into the £15 era, Eletcrocoin released updated Bar-X games called Bar-x 5 and later Bar-x 10

Exact same game and pretty similar game but Bars £15 and  X's £5 - released AFAIK in that dome like cabinet.

These seemed to have a really weird profile where they would "streak" by giving a win every £4 or so, so very long and drawn out.

Not sure what made remember these, have they been emulated at all?

I don't believe any £10+ jackpot original Electrocoin ROMs run in the emulator, only the earlier £4 and maybe £6 ones. Anything after that will almost certainly be a MAB, Concept or similar third party chip.

I do have loads of Electrocoin ROMs downloaded and have tried lots but get the same error as you'd get on the physical machine if you didn't have the GAL (security) board fitted.

I wouldn't be surprised if this could be hacked out. I'd bloody love to play them even if they didn't run quite right.

Way beyond my ability to hack protection out though. I was always worried about doing it... but I think Electrocoin have long since moved on to Scorpion 6 for their Bar X physical machines now.

I have had a go at getting them running too, tried everything and yes, you are right, they need the security chip. I did have an in-depth conversation with ChatGPT about it, who said if we could get a physical chip and lots of test equipment, we could do it, so I figured that it would be easier to hack the ROMs to get the protection out, but that is also out of my ability zone.

My go-to layout is this one by Vectra666, which is set at 20p £10. He said at the time it was Mark 1 ROMs, but I think the reels spin too fast for a Mk1. But Mk2 apparently has the security chip, so not sure...

Hi, I'm somewhat 7 Months late reading into this thread, but I have just been (today) playing that very same layout game above.  Bar - X £10 jackpot.  I wanted to ask the same question in MFME (General discussion anyway) so the thread that this relates to is a duplicate and I am adding the web address in case anyone wants to jump the page and have a read of what has been said on this up until June last year. PS! (If you are reading the thread, no need to click the link below as you will already be here), this is a copy of what has been posted in the FME Emulation Lab.

https://www.desertislandfruits.com/forum/index.php?/topic/19275-bar-x-5-and-bar-x-10/

I think it's a bit sad that this has not been pushed further or investigated.  It seems a shame that the brakes have just been slammed on, like the front end has hit a dead end.

Does this then mean that up until the £10 jackpot absolutely no security chips were needed, hence being able to produce this emulation?

I often wondered if that is the case, then why there is NOT an Electrocoin's Big Bar 7 on £10 Jackpot? (Cherry's on £5, Melons £1 and Bars £2.00) like back in the 90's when they were token free and a cash jackpot in Adult Gaming Centres.  I for one hate the Concept and Chuzzy kIt versions (Except when someone has lost loads on them), because 8/10 times in the arcade they are just dead spin after dead spin.   I know about  the Super Multi Nudge Layout and the empty for it, but that is not quite the same thing now is it?  Bit like, it's good, but it's not quite Carling.

Would be more than amazing if it came to FME that we had the Big Bar 7 on £25 JP the one where it gives the extra three nudges now and again.  Also Bar -X 10(£10 - £25.00) without the dreadful concept or Chuzzy kit on it.  These machines were prominently seen in the wild most I think in Rio Cabinets, but you did come across the ones that did not give the extra three nudges in the same cabinet as Vectra's layout in the link above.

Would this also mean then, that if the security chip finally got hacked, we would perhaps also see OXO Crazy Reels 4 player arena emulated?

I am just speculating here, but John Parker was good at the arcade simulator and bringing that to the FME scene which was awesome.  Somebody somewhere out there knows how to get past the GAL security board and chip block, and knows how to do something to hack the security chip or potentially knows someone who could maybe help and do this????

Would be somewhat amazing not?😍 if this was to happen.

Then one day alas, the £25.00   (Bar - X)   Big Bar 7 and possible OXO crazy reels could come to MFME.  WOW!!!🤩

Excellent...Jackpot, Jackpot, Jackpot.....'You just love me for my ££££'.

Nice to have a GOOD PIPE DREAM now and again.....!  If only for a short while. 🙃  If only!!!!

OXO Super Reels and similar will not run correctly in MFME - different hardware (Phoenix, specifically the version known as Phoenix 2). Wizard was working on it - and it does boot, but on genuine Electrocoin I'm sure it stops at the security stage, and Concept ROMs it seems to lose track of what it's doing and basically soft locks.

As for the original £25 Bar X, Big 7 e.t.c. - they run, BUT I imagine the security isn't quite knocked out. In the old days I'm sure they just froze with the missing GAL error - with the most recent MFME releases they boot and are playable, but they very quickly go into a 'win every spin' mode. Like a neverending streak.

I've mucked about and I'm sure others have (within MFME itself, the thought of ROM hacking and similar is well beyond me) and despite trying many different ROMs, they all do the same in the end - they might seem to be OK, then the machine makes a strange noise, and (nearly) every spin is a win.

It's a proper shame that they won't behave themselves in v 20.1.  Like you say the security seems to be playing havoc with the gameplay in the emulator and until completely knocked out.....a win practically every game.  Maybe this is part of the security software itself to prevent it being copied and thus presented on sites such as this in which to be potentially emulated.  Who knows?

We live in hope, as a Rio layout of Big Bar 7 on £5.00 £15.00 and £25.00 on original extra nudge 3 ROM (No concept nor chuzzy) would be awesome!🤩

@slotsmagic thanks for your reply and post. 🤩

Hmm!🤔 It does make me wonder though, why there is not a £10 Big Bar 7 emulation if there is a Bar X with £10 JP?

That Super Multi Nudge is not quite the same thing and when you know the empty as shown on YouTube, A bit of a laugh on the emulator a couple of times I'm sure, but then I think it just gets well frankly somewhat 'Boring' and pointless!!

There is no reason at all I / you for example couldn't put the ROMs into an existing Bar X 7 type layout. I'll have to have a nosey at it, I was very impressed with the gameplay when I tried it. But I still need to buckle down and sort out other layouts I've meant to finish the past few weeks :)

You mean exciting and addictive 😂

I get what you mean though. Yes once you know the emptier, whilst it's fun to see a machine lose track of what it is doing, basically means it is hard to play it 'normally' again.

Someone did have an earlier version of Red Bar running (probably £6/£8/£10 jackpot, can't remember) and as previously said it offers a win every game and so is not playable. There is also a version of Magic 7s that does the same thing. I believe this is a product of the security chip not being installed. There seem to be plenty of ROMs knocking about and I had done test layouts for Red Bar and Magic 7s but they are long lost, I have been meaning to recreate them at some point but haven't got round to it. My thinking was if we can get these non-running layouts on here then maybe enough people could have a play around with them that we might make some progress. There was also one of the first casino machines called Cool 7s which I thought may have no security but that was a non-runner for me. Another idea I had, there was a machine in the 1990s which was Electrocoin and had Blue Sevens as the jackpot (£4.80/£6.00) then Red Sevens and then two other symbols (bars maybe?) - which did the extra nudges and I thought might be another one that would be worth trying so we got the extra nudge experience but I can't remember what it was called and therefore haven't made any progress on those either.

Can anyone add to any of this?

Hi Queen

Is the machine you are thinking of Red White And Blue 7s from electrocoin if this is the machine then we have a layout for this see screenshot

Thanks but it wasn't this. I remember they used to have them in Showboat amusements (maybe Quicksilver too) and they were in the tall cabinets that BarXs were in where the reels were high up (like the Universal cabinet). Same reel layout as Big 7 and Red Bar, 4 win pattern. I definitely remember £4.80 token jackpot, I think the wins were Blue Seven (with the word Jackpot or Super on on them), Red Sevens, Bars (I think) and Melons (possibly). I think the one in my local arcade must have been there for a long time as I started playing it in 1997 and it was there for a few years.

This sounds very much like Projects Sevens and Melons rather than an Electrovoin...... this is emulated....

Not convinced that is a good idea as you are just shining a spotlight on the already emulated stuff (working correctly or not) and they may decide that shouldn't be around either.

Do we have the roms for the £10 edition or a zip file with em all in?

as it would be a simple extraction of the off/on art re-edit the winplan and re add to mfme would take me say a hour to sort as the layout in question is unlocked or mine is, as I helped with the graphical side of things

i see 60+ sets for big 7,s on planetemu but which ones the £10 or £15 versions

I see how difficult that would be to decipher and how much time is involved in selecting and downloading the right rom set?

I don't know anything really about layout creation, although I do admire the work that goes into creation of layouts by FME artists.

Would it not also be evident that if the right £15 ROM was found, that also would be potentially locked down with the security again, thus just spinning wins in nearly every game.  I don't know.  Could be a long time trial and error going through 60 + sets to find the £10 ROM, I'm guessing @vectra666 you already had the Bar-X £10 Jackpot ROM sourced or at hand, but for Super Big 7's you'd have to find the right one.

Shame they don't appear to be labelled as to which one is which, stake, jackpot etc!t Sadly I would not really know nor understand myself how to look unless they were labelled accordingly, I don't have a clue in this respect let alone understand why there are 60+. I'm somewhat surprised more people have not commented, so does this mean sadly yet again for now we hit another brick wall?  Another dead end.🤔  My mistake but I also see this game is not Big Bar 7 it's Electro coin's Super BIg 7.  Sigh🤫

£15 would run if they were like the MAB roms within super red bar

I’m sure I even got the bar x £25 running somewhat or was it magic 10’s I’ll check my old pms on here

as for the rom sets the hex editor may find them labelled

https://www.planetemu.net/rom/mame-roms/ec-spbg7mab

mab set also bar x mab roms?

https://www.planetemu.net/rom/mame-roms/ec-barxmab

if someone can test these out, if they do run within the respected layouts and are £10 or £15 upload them within the layouts

original super red bar mab release for reel settings etc

I do value your opinion, it's why I made the post in the first place so that I could get everyone's feelings on whether or not I should ask them or not, to help us with the security chip problem to emulate the games.

However, I hardly think this site or FME is great or a new secret to them, and other manufacturers and different techs of amusement gaming machines. out there emulated on this site and others.  I mean it's not like MAME is a big secret either for video games is it?.  I think it only becomes a problem when people cross the line and start zipping hundreds of layouts they have downloaded over the years and selling them on eBay, or maybe making FME working payout cabinets and using them and installing them, for financial and business gain in arcades, which frankly the odds of that happening (Cabinets wise) I mean, is zero.   I for one have certainly never seen a 'payout ready' note accepting multi game FME cabinet in an arcade or bingo hall, let alone a pub.  I would not mention that we have other games emulated with Electro coin tech on the site.  Being as there are ROM sets posted on sites online anyway, I'm fairly sure they know sites like this exist.

I'm just disappointed that other than a somwhat minimalistic few, showing interest in the thread, there has been very little response, and the excitement about it, just seems frankly proper flat too; in respect of maybe potentially taking this and FME further and getting others opinions about asking Electro coin if we can please emulate £15.00, £25.00 Bar-X, xxx' £5 or xxx £10.00 and Big Bar 7 with the extra nudges and again on £25.00 Jackpot.

I just think it would be a really fresh vibe for the scene if it happened.  As reiterated, all Electro coin can do is say no, but I'd have to know exactly what I would be asking for and how that needs to be implemented into the layout or emulator so you don't get the streak problem and the symbols reading incorrectly producing a win.

Just my own opinion and not being ungrateful here, that seemingly at present, members are happy just to see and play recycled old layouts that have been done before, but have been polished for MFME 20.1.  But when it comes to getting something new and exciting, like back when Golden Game and Party Time could actually be emulated but using a top box instead of just the bottom reels, everyone was buzzing at that not?  This is what I'm getting at.   LIKE I SAID ELECTRO COIN CAN JUST SAY NO!  If we don't try we shall never know and therefore then the scene could be sure it WILL just be a  shut down, going nowhere, not happening brick wall.

£10, £15, £25 Bar=X and  Super Big 7 would be awesome, especially a layout the Rio cabinet ones with Super Big 7 giving the extra 3 nudges at random.  Personally I hate the concept ROMS.  The MAB ones are okay, but it's still not the games I have mentioned above.

Personally I'd like to see the original layouts without any kit adjustments added.

I'm not going to ask Electro coin anything without getting a proper vote and approval from other members but most importantly the site moderators.

Ps! big shout and respect to @Vectra666 for taking an interest and the research he has done up to now, it's nice that some share my enthusiasm.

Thanks for reading

🙄🤔

It’s unlikely Electrocoin will offer any help with any security features of even their early machines.

But you don’t have to ask permission, you are welcome to do what you want and if you wanted to enquire then it’s all good.  I’m sure Electrocoin know all about emulation so you are hardly going to be putting mfme in jeopardy, or mame for that matter.

It might actually be worth taking a look at what is emulated in mame, the gal chip might already be emulated but not implemented, also mfme can no longer be worked on as it was a closed source project, fme in mame is a lot more niche and a very slow burner.

Rom hacking is a definitive candidate for the erratic partly running Electrocoins, but chuzzy kits run encrypted roms, chuzzy chip is unemulated.  The kit plugs into the Phoenix board and does some magic on the roms and descrambles the code so that they run.  I might be wrong with some of the chuzzy info here by the way.  Even when unscrambled it could have further security like the gal chip.
