Old vs. New "Deal or No Deal" – Which Version Wins Your Vote?

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year to everyone! 🎉🎆⭐

Hello everyone! I’m looking for some thoughts and opinions on a classic TV game show we all know and love: Deal or No Deal. Whether you're a fan of the original version with its iconic style or prefer the updated take with fresh twists, there’s no denying that this game show has left its mark on us including our beloved Fruit Machine era.

Personally, I’m tasked with exploring this as part of an engagement project in the next few months at one of our work locations which will cover around 200 people give or take and I’d love to hear your opinions. Did good old Noel from the old version’s simplicity and suspenseful pacing make it the better show? Or do the changes in the newer version—like updated aesthetics, modernized gameplay, or different host dynamics—bring a fresh appeal? (How could they not include the £250,000 jackpot!)

If you have ideas on what could make Deal or No Deal even more engaging, let me know! Whether it’s changes to the format, interactive features, or even how contestants are selected, I’m open to any suggestions. Let’s spark a lively debate and see which version reigns supreme in your eyes!

Personally for me the show is all staged and acted or it seams to be, the contestants  are probably selected through several auditions. The program itself could take about 15 minutes without all the “drama”

I feel they should’ve axed this programme a long time ago then we would t have 250+ dond and clones machines Around too

Personally I think the old series with Noel went off track and I think it's that original series that brought in new twists and features. We had swap the box at the end, box 23, bankers gamble, etc.

At least when it returned it was back to normal, even with the lower jackpot.

But both versions don't need to be an hour - cut the chat and make it 30 minutes :D

Here's a quote of mine from another thread back in November 2023 when the new series kicked off.

I watched it yesterday as it was the first episode of the new series. ITV being a bit tight having the top prize at 100k rather than 250k and there's no 35k value either.

Mulhern did a decent job but as you say what can you really change. Its still being dragged out a bit - could be a half hour show if they'd get on with it.

As I see it when blueprint (betcom) got the deal or no deal licence it didn't include Noel's image nor voice so maybe Mulhern won't be cropping up on the digi cabs.

Also the new graphics:

Well no sign of Mulhern as I suspected but a lot of the Alphastar blueprint digi terminals have the new DOND graphics - see attached sorry about the reflections.

If I ever watch the show I just fast forward through it to see how they deal/ what they win.

But I guess I'm not the target market - that would be pensioners, stay at home parents and the unemployed who are perfectly happy to waste an hour with faux drama.

The host and the players are irrelevant to me, although I like Steven Mulhern as a presenter.

I used to enjoy it, but the pacing is very slow, I was not interested in the people drama, to the point where I would just forward to the game play same as Boulderdash above.

I only ever saw it when Noel Edmonds presented it, I thought he was decent to be fair.

They could maybe introduce some special boxes that contain some benefits like remove some blue boxes or an extra life, or keep the £250,000 prize safe etc.  Would make it much more watchable, remove more of the people stuff to focus on a more fun game that should be paced a lot faster.

Just noticed there's a new series on this on the TV, which is no doubt the reason for the thread.

Why are the players saying offers like £4,000 are 'a lot of money'? It might be to someone with no job, but when there's still £100,000 in the game it's not even worth considering as a deal.

The second ITV series started way before Xmas, took a break, and is now back on. Assuming it's a series of 50 we have another weeks worth.

For the first few rounds the banker may aswell offer 10 pence as nobody is going to deal in the vast majority of cases.

4K is a fair amount of money.  I imagine there is some kind of script that is drilled into the contestants, they are told to say this kind of mundane stuff  :)

It's a fair amount of money in real life, that's true, but when there's over £200,000 left in the game it isn't.

Yesterday's game was amazing. The woman wiped out almost exclusively blues in the first three rounds, then picked 100,75 and 50k boxes in succession. Don't know what she went home with but that's just horrendous luck. What are the odds?

Id like to see some rich person who DOESN't need the money, take offer 1.....

if 11 boxes left - just about 1 in a 1000 (11 x 10 x 9)

Yes that is correct from when the first 11 boxes have gone and for those 3 in that specific order. I didn't post this because I started thinking about two other scenarios.

One - odds where the first 11 boxes could be anything except the 100/75/50k

Two - the exact boxes she picked from the start of the game in order - odds for this are incredible but then it's the same for any specific boxes in order.

Indeed but I don't think they've ever had contestants that are very well off because the public (eg people who had applied) would not be happy.
