@dad I wonder if it’s a blended lamp issue, that’s pretty heavy on resources.  Do you have unpack blended lamps set to on in prefs.  If it is on maybe try It off to see if that works.

J

Yes I have that option ticked in preferences. I first noticed it on my version of Poolplay and that doesn't have any blended lamps.

Believe me I've tried everything and I just can't work out what's going on.

Has to be something to do with how the layout is built.  So annoying for you!

I did remake a smaller version of Poolplay just for myself and that works perfectly but doesn't explain why other layouts still have issues.  Vectra's 'Son of Dracula' isn't a big layout yet it still locks up.  I have many far bigger layouts which run fine.  It's a puzzle to be sure!

Is there any kind of crash report or does it not actually crash just hangs?

J

Just hangs mate.  Task manager reports memory usage of about 3.5GB whereas normal load is roughly 400mb.  What puzzles me, like I said before is I can enter EDIT mode and let the machine initialise then exit EDIT mode and it runs fine.

Plus, this only happens on certain layouts and so far I've not found out a connection.   At first I thought it was the size of the layout such as my Poolplay which is quite large but that's not the case.   Even at 3.5GB memory usage it shouldn't lock up as I have loads of memory spare.   I've tried disabling AV/Malware programs, background apps, turning off non essential windows processes but nothing seem to work.

All the latest windows updates are done, all graphics drivers updated in fact EVERYTHING is bang up to date and it's still playing up.

Bring back XP, that's what I say ;)

Yeah edit mode literally is the full edited sized layout so mfme doesn’t have to redraw, stretch artwork to screen.  I think is where the issue lies.

I had the same issue when I was using blended lamps on a DX I did, when the machine shrunk down to my screen size from whatever res I designed it in it would be painfully slow, when in edit mode it ran perfectly fine with no issues so maybe it’s the way mfme is down or upscaling the graphics.  Maybe just a fundamental issue that is spec related, maybe even Windows 11 related.

Though I have encountered zero issues personally on my win11 machine, which makes it even more frustrating.

Is there any unused lamps that are left hidden on the layout.  I think there a few clean up tools in mfme to clean any debris.  Very strange though.  You got issues, I want them so I can have a delve into it!!  Lol

J

No, no unused lamps or anything else cluttering up the layouts.

I'm resigned to the fact that it's my rig and that there's some conflict somewhere.  It's odd that I can play the most CPU/Graphics/Memory hungry games without a hitch but when it comes to MFME (for me) it sometimes struggles.  I can cope with it though ;)

I dont know if its anything like your issue but on my relatively recent laptop mfme would also crash for me when loading the majority of the games, although some would load fine. My laptop has a mobile 4070 gpu, but by default the gpu is switched out for a lower power simple gpu for power saving reasons (laptop runs for 6+ hours rather than 2 hours on battery). Switching to the 4070 gpu fixed all the crashing issues for me.
