FruitBAR (Beta) - New Marquee Display

A few weeks ago I was asked if I could develop the ability to use marquee displays, so I bought a marquee display and added the additional code to allow fruitBAR to show images and videos while selecting and playing fruits, the video is not amazing due to too much sunlight but it shows the intermediate video playing while the fruit is playing on the laptop at this point I only have the intro video to demonstrate this display currently but i'm sure some people will transform the marquee displays onto another level.

Oh the video also shows a little section of Mame in action.

If you would like to see an early release drop your name below.

Me, me, me, me! Have just lost power to the marquee screen though. Awaitng reply from vendor. So maybe not.......

I bought a 5amp supply from amazon with the correct fitting, it really works well.

All going well its being fitted into the cabinet tomorrow if i get time.

So I might have a better video, stills images coming if i get it sorted.

Did you have any issues with the display being offset at all ??

No mate, not that I noticed, but there were buttons on the back of mine so that you can move the picture if necessary.  Ebay seller responded and will replace my broken one, so it's on it's way back now.

Sorted it ! I needed to have both displays on the same card now that has been done, it worked before but gave me issues

Updated the development so it displays as it should, and here you have a some what finished product.

Now its the task of creating videos and stills for the new marquee version of fruitBAR

If your guessing whats next, lets add some kind of attract mode !!

I am half way through a basic attraction mode so if you have any ideals feel free to post below.

One question whats your preference on an attract time 60 seconds or 120 seconds ?

I have no preference mate. Do whatever you appeals to you the most. It looks great in the photo, now it's mounted on your cab. Great work!

I found I do have a menu system the buttons were covered over with a sticker so that's a good result and I recessed the display into the top section a bit leaving access to the menu system.

But now I have lots of work to create images and videos for the marquee.

Cant wait to see the cabinet view @davep180 with your new marquee display running !!

Still messing around trying to switch from the old pentium4 to my main pc. Then I've got to cut a big hole in the top of the cab and fit the marquee. If previous experience is anything to go by, it should be ready in about 2024! (Even then, things will no doubt randomly work one day and not the next, lol)

It was about time I created a shared release of FruitBar with the marquee display but remember this version is under development, sure it will work with out the marque videos simply remove the intro.avi file, want to setup intro videos for each of your roms on a second display this version can do that.

Currently tested on a limit amount of marquee resolutions

This release also includes lots of extra's the other normal release doesn't have including the random spin a rom which after 30 seconds of doing nothing fruitbar will randomly spin to a random rom.

Feel free to test this one but as i said its under development, more so on the marquee side but other code will be added.

https://apps-trader.com/fruitbar/fruitbar_m1.zip

@davep180 this one includes an update you might be interested in, it has a small delay prior to starting the video which will stop any lag  (initially it will load the marquee image then after I believe 10 seconds it will load up the video marquee this will should stop the lag you were experiencing.

I will probably add a setting for this so the 10 seconds can be amended the reason being a faster machine may he happy with no delay where as a slower machine may require more of a delay it will also depend on the video size.  A bigger marquee video the more loading time, SSD or non SSD will also make a difference too.  As always smaller files faster system so compressing your avi's will certainly help.

I will get around to doing a post to recommend how I would create avi's and to get them small, I believe I have set a 15 or 20 second limit on the playing time to reduce the file size as its all about speed !!.

It's actually hard to test all these variables on this laptop as its a beast with 32GB ram, 8 core i7, SSD, etc it takes a lot to make this old dragon slow down.

Any questions or suggestions are always welcomed

Thanks for this,

You might want to use the original version from the download.php

i'm guessing this is a missing file which I have not checked for in this test release as everyone testing it generally has the original config setup and the files have been created, but I will look into that now.

The main stream release doesn't have any issues like that.

Thanks for posting...

@Mrbeanstreak could you tell me what spec the machine is, what memory, etc?

I have checked even the new currently testing marquee version does not crash on an initial start up and clearly you are using the older version hence the background image.

Not heard of any issues with that version on a clean install, not sure what you press or do to get that error, so im just looking for some more information on the issue,

You are welcome to try this new release, there will be a new version coming out later maybe tonight.

Quickly updated this release to resolve the issues experienced in an initial startup with blank roms, settings, etc.

Also updated the marquee display code to further delay the loading of video files this should remove any strain from slower setup's and increase overall performance.

Keep in mind this is the marquee display release of FruitBar, I will put this into the main stream release at some point.

@davep180 I have quickly added the ability to enable or disable marquee images and videos per cabinet this should resolve your machine looking for files.

This was the easiest and quickest way to implement this since you use the machine details, percentages, stake values, etc, aka the bar files

The 'n' aka stake key now has two new options this will save your machine looking for files, bar files are starting to become a config file for each cabinet.
