Belated sympathy and commiserations, Chopley, for your deciding to pull your YouTube channel. Totally understand your reasons.

I decided many years ago that any kind of social media wasn't for me; my days of daily interactions on forums etc. are well behind me. I think for me, my naivety about what I thought the internet and "online communities" were, say, back in the early noughties - and what they have evolved into - was brought into sharp focus a number of times. Bottom line, there are just too many creepy, ne'er do well obsessives out there who'll resent you for any number of reasons, and it's just not worth it IMO.

The likes of Twitter etc. sends a shiver down my spine tbh. Happy to keep my head down and enjoy RL, well away from prying eyes.

Many thanks for all the comments folks, much appreciated.

I've been turning things over in my mind as to how I can restore (nearly) all of the FME content from the old channel to a new channel (I'll jettison the online slots stuff), it'll take a bit of a time but it should be doable.

In terms of new content it'll be limited, Arcade Simulator updates, maybe the odd 'Sinbad moment', that sort of thing, but mostly just restoring the 200+ FME videos from the old channel to be available again. (The Gambling Low Ebbs series won't be on the list, they were the ones that were causing me the most stress along with some of the online slots stuff, but the idea with the Gambling Low Ebbs videos would be to make them available privately to the specific Google accounts of only DIF members who want access.)

I've got a bit of time off work coming up, so I'll see if I can arrange something that'll function OK, it won't be any sort of mass reuploading, but maybe a process that could get a video reuploaded once per week or so. (Each reupload would be re-appraised, edited where required/beneficial, and timecoded.)

TBH it was quite surprising to realise that the channel/videos had actually managed to touch quite a few people, as @Mort alluded to above, I hadn't quite understood the extent of it, albeit in its own small way as a niche hobbyist channel.

Once again, thanks for all the kind words.

That's good to hear! The channel was loved because it was unpretentious and based entirely on your enthusiasm for your hobby. You tell a good story and covered a good range of topics. There was something for everyone.

It's a shame that someone in your personal life saw fit to spoil that. There are some assholes around.

I don't believe that was the case.

More a case, that his work and other members of his family could become aware of it and it could bring trouble to his door. Just like people get sacked or forced to resign for a view or action expressed from when they were a completely different person to what they are now.

My brother got the sack from a job for a Facebook comment, which was reported to his work.

Apologies if I got that wrong. I agree that you’ve got to be careful with social media these days

Something similar happened to me before, I assumed I was pretty safe because my Facebook was private, but obviously it just takes someone on the inside with an axe to grind and all hell breaks loose. Hopefully it worked out well for your brother in the end.

Excellent to hear that some of the old content will be back in some form, it was often part of my late-night 'winding down' viewing.

Oh that would be amazing to see a new Degsy Degworth channel back on YouTube, @Chopaholic!

Your channel was one of my go-to channels, and i would look forward to a weekly (or bi-weekly) Degsey video! - especially if it was about FME or the low ebbs ones... i never really watched the online slots ones as online slots don't interest me one bit - but smashing to hear you could be back--- it's your amazing commentary that made the videos so special... i know other fruit machine channels are there, but they don't have commentary and that makes them unwatchable for me.

Fingers and toes crossed for your return!

Cheers

Gary.

Hi folks, there are loads of FME videos to get reuploaded to the new channel (200+) so it'll take a while to get through them all, at the very least each video will need to me to watch it through from start to finish to do the timecodes, do a new thumbnail, description and so on - so a bit of effort involved for each one. I am intending to get through the lot, but at a rate of 2-3 per week it'll still take a little while.

As such, if there are any videos you can remember from the old channel that you'd like to see bumped up the list, just post here to let me know which one.

@lammas10 has mentioned in another thread he'd like the That's Life one to be reuploaded, so I'll get that one in the pipeline to get done sooner rather than later.

EDIT TO ADD - This does not include the Gambling Low Ebbs videos, my plan is to make those privately available to DIF members via invite, but that isn't ready yet.

I don't visit here as much as I once did and I've only just read about the channel being deleted back in December. Serves me right for not engaging with the people here, some i've known for over 20 years, I've known people across these forums longer than my other half. I watch so much stuff on YouTUBE though that my other half forced me to get a Sky Q mini box for the bedroom.

I did notice a lack of videos being released but just put that down to probably you just being busy in real life. The personal videos you've posted really resonate with me. I've been in dark places too due to gambling and fruit machines and I always found out about emptiers AFTER the exploit was patched and lost even more money... 'Patching an exploit...', the laymans term meaning a re-chip.  I totally understand why you had to pull the plug but i'm so pleased your back pal.

Welcome back 👍🏽

New video on the channel, covering the latest fantastic update to Arcade Simulator by @johnparker007

Just got back and watched your video, awesome overview of the new video game stuff and the project in general - thanks for making it! :)

One plan is to get a few static screens per video game that they'll cycle through (along with the sounds as you hear it now) when attract videos are turned off, so users with weaker systems can still have a fairly immersive experience... and also some other optimisations are planned that should bring down the CPU & GPU load a little.

Also in the future, I may be doing something so it can stream textures from the hard drive (like how Grand Theft Auto 5 does it)... so then there'll be less demand for VRAM (and general system RAM), so hopefully will be able to keep it accessible for most people, even with limited RAM/CPU :)  (so it would load a very high resolution copy of a game marquee, fruit machine reel etc only as the user gets close enough to it to be able to see the detail).
