Just power the LED from a separate power supply unless you want to take the power from the PC PSU and it will take 5v or 12v

I'm wondering if I can use the same type of buttons I have on my machine currently, 3 pin connector at back with LED.

Two wires will be power you should be able to meter these, 12v 0v, or 5v 0v

Another two wires will be the switch press the button with your multimeter on continuity and the meter should beep on the press, if it beep and goes silent when you press the button it works in the wrong direction
