I would definitely say start with something simpler, MPU5 has custom made chips on it for which there is no information on, its 16 bit so as I said start with something more simpler like 8 bit. MPU4 is still a good tech as lots are based around the processor on those. your just get bogged down as MPU5 has lots of code! older ones don't have as near as much code to wade through.
Mpu4 in mame is also quite complete many games do run so reading the code would help see how it ticks

Maygay m1a is one such example machine runs then goes to tits when it seems to try to alarm it does get past the contact maygay error tho

I am convinced all those s4 in mame just need layouts making for them some have them but the meters etc are not set up correctly
-
Is that in mame or mfme?

I think @SocialDragon368 commented on a bunch of ancient forum threads a day or two ago, so they all popped up at the top of my 'Unread' list!
They do quite often no ones ever call them on it TBH

Then we go into the realms of mame2003 retroarch territory

Had a few games of this today I think I prefer the C64 version although the animation of the speccy one was impressive for the hardware

It's a good game - but if I'd not know it from the past, I would have been in the very same boat as you on it. It's not straight forward...
Its also what happens when you buy a game and have no instructions included for a pound pre internet days

This could be potentially interesting for slot machine layouts
MAME now has support for touch screens on Linux and Windows 8 or later, opening up new possibilities for interactive artwork. If you have a suitable multi-touch screen, you can now play chords on systems with on-screen piano keyboards. Check the documentation for specifics on how touch differs from mouse control in menus. You’ll need to turn on the enable_touch option to use touch screen support on Linux.

Why have you posted to a 5 year old thread?

The source code for a very early version of mfme can be found below

The grey area just got dark.
It just got greyer really because many of Nintendos consoles are older than 5 years and used off the shelf components.

And all them rom sites supplying games they no longer sell that have been taken out

FME has never had a 3 year rule it was suggested and some members took it as fact copyright is copyright I mean if there was a 3 year rule what would stop me downloading all of Elvis' albums from a dump site and if his record company come after me I would be able to say 'but under the 3 year rule'...... judge would piss himself same applies here.
Emulation is not illegal but 'cracking' games before release is and thats the issue here
Nintendo are cunts of the first order when it comes to their IP they would sue you for hosting a 30 year old rom I really don't know why folks don't just boycott.
