You may have seen this on Facebook recently looks like it's in perfect condition. Id not seen this machine before but loved the old Smash & Grab ... just thought I'd share...
It's in a Facebook Group "Proper Fruit Machine GRoup" so you may not be able to view this...

I haven't posted much on this forum over the years but today I'm compelled to say a BIG thank you to the community. Obviously it wouldn't all be possible without @Wizard and I was fortunate enough to have gained help from him personally a few years ago getting my cab's PacDrive working but I'm also super grateful to everyone else involved and today I'd like to put a spotlight on the work provided by @Amusements , I'm in ore of the quality of the art work delivered by him in his JPM system 80 layouts (and many others). I can only imagine the many hours he must have put into recreating these beautiful designs, they are faultless and bring back so many good memories, they really do.
This Christmas I finally found some time to sort out my cab project and fitted a second touchscreen and I'm just blown-away by how well it works in particular with @Amusementslayouts. I've now got this dual touch screen cab (which is great for all the feature buttons) running Touch-Play (again thanks to those involved in making that possible too) with a Pacdrive.
I know there are loads of other people that put time into this scene/project but I can see @Amusements has the same love I do for those old classics from the 80's, they has been reproduced just perfectly in every detail.
I've posted this in the cab's section as I think my cab worked out pretty well in the end but like I say it's thanks to you guys that this is possible.
Sorry about the sound quality (in particular my heavy breathing and the button clicks - those sounds have got amplified somehow)
Anyway, thanks guys,
Graham.

Yes if the first symbols always become the ones to compare against and that pool of symbols diminishes that will cause some issues, I can see that. I guess the more passes you do, starting at different places in the list would yield better results too if you could compare the results from each pass. By the way, I appreciate you don't need advice or ideas, I'm just thinking out load and sharing.
Also, does it need to be more accurate than your fuzzy compare (that looks really good) if it's just to speed up a manual process of re-selecting? Is it really not good enough..? I know you're a perfectionist though
Good luck !

Very interesting... it reminded of me when we developed OCR and OMR solutions for banks to read scanned docs (usually invoices and cheques) and we would use APIs from three completely different OCR software suppliers (since their approaches and algorithms were completely different) and then use their accuracy scores to calculate which was more confident of it's match (to a letter or mark rather than a fruit symbol of course
) - I just wondered whether you intended to combine approaches or would it take too long to process?
You're fuzzy compare looks pretty good, it's a bit weird how the histogram comparison is not matching things like the oranges but I guess what looks obvious to the human eye is so very different to that approach these algorithms are taking.
Thanks for sharing....I found it intriguing.

Once they get up to Nokia 3510i, 7210 onwards, I will have to dig out the 'ROMs' of my old first mobile game 'GridRacer 3d'!
Some screenshots here (from a slightly later Nokia s60), clearly I did all the graphics by how crummy they are
I did that perspective road effect on the title screen picture using Deluxe Paint on an Amiga emulator believe it or not, I think I stole the bike from an Gamecube XG3 screenshot and modified it... It was perhaps the first 3d game though...

Found these from an ancient website that still seems to be up:
http://www.zgroup-mobile.com/published_games/racing/gridracer3d/gridrace3dr.htmlAbsolutely fascinating John, an amazing part of gaming history to be part of. Can you get a mention on Wiki ? You should try to get a reference for R-TYPE port if you haven't' already. It's great to hear the back stories and about how you got the bike graphic for Gridracer and your girlfriend helping you on projects
I bet you have a lot of fond memories... be sure to post more snippets like this, I love it !

Tech update
So I've done some of the work now required to do the 'packaging' of the build for video games.. still to do is the streaming assets per machine stuff (so video/audio/marquee image downloaded on demand rather than upfront).
Been fixing bugs and optimising, but introducing new ones too... A/V is now synced reliable on the attract videos, which before would often have the audio out of sync with the video for various reasons. This has caused some issues with popin however (videos black framing on fast 'head turns'), so more research needed here to see about mitigations.
There is actually a reverb test on in this video, it only applies to attract audio at present, not the audio while playing a rom.
Also - have tweaked the 'drop off' to be more extreme... though I think we'll also want a slider setting for user-tunable 'artificial volume reduction' of nearby machines during play. Also, I need to figure out why some attract audios just seem so much louder (Double Dragon and Nemesis for instance) when I did set stuff up so they should all be normalised to within the same volume range...
Star Force tested again (as the original board runs at 60.000 Hz like the video refresh rate and has steady 1 pixel/frame scrolling) - it is smoother running the emulator with this new way, but it really hammers the CPU. More research needed there also, it'd be good to get proper vsync mame without the CPU hit.
So yeah, creating new problems as I try to solve them lol ... it's all progress though
There's also a new bug introduced by the various changes to the attract video system - visible at 3:20 on Nemesis, it is playing a much lower res video... then I spin around on the spot 360 degrees, which fixes the issue... should be able to find a fix for that one at least
Wow Epic !

New release is amazing @johnparker007, thanks as always. I've not had a proper play with all the new machines but it's given me something to look forward to when we break for Christmas - many thanks,

that's a coincidence, I owned that arcade cab until recently and it had that exact same glass. They're solid cabs, it had a Salamander game in it
- I converted it to MAME and had in for 5+ years before giving it to my Godson although I think his dad played it more than he did!
- I think they still have it.

Wow - another great cabinet!
I didn't ever see one of these, but when I finally move onto MAME stuff (there's a lot of fruit machine work to do first), this will be awesome - thanks Spidy
Nice cab @Spidy21982, @johnparker007 I appreciate with so much still to do on the fruit emu side mame will be a while off yet, but as an interim would it be possible to have a few cabs just as props (defender, space invaders, real classics?) just a thought...

Just amazing, as always, @johnparker007 I think you've got such a great eye for detail, the community here is so lucky to have you continuing to make advances in this area. I know you've already put in countless weeks of work to get it where it is and you're diligently working hard to build something that has solid foundations for future use rather than hacking in quick fixes. Sometimes I can see that you have to go a little backwards in order to make a great advance and redo a section of work. This must be annoying and frustrating, hopefully you'll be able to keep it going
.As you can tell, I for one am very grateful and I check in regularly just to catch-up on snippits like this. Thanks again !

From what I read up on it, there's quite a bit of technique to it - specific apps for specific scan distances, specific scan distances for specific surface types/model scales, optimal barely overlapping single pass scanning technique to avoid holes/over-fitting, etc. It's sadly not at the stage yet where you just download any app, and go get great scans, you need to really get into the weeds of various aspects of the process to get good scans of your general target object (in our case arcade machines).
(Also the texture-mapping aspect would be irrelevant to my approach, I'm just after the data for building a point cloud for an artist to use as an accurate support shell for their model along with supporting photograph resources).
I have a couple of pinball machines and a Mortal Kombat II cabinet here in the house, so I was planning to do the same, and see if I could build a dimensionally accurate rough 'shell' with some perseverance (so the shell in 3DS Max consistently matches perfectly the measurements I take from the machines in reality).
I wouldn't be using the initial scan as an actual model the end user would see though... it's purely for point data to help the artist with an accurate shell... this stuff is long term goals though, am waiting to see how the market unfolds, it may be there's a superior android lidar phone available in a year or so, iphones always have such a hefty price tag!Very interesting, thank you for the detailed explanation, that makes a lot of sense. It's a very exciting area of development and literally adds a new dimension to all of this...

@Spidy21982 they look cool, what apps / programs have you used to capture those?

Hi @johnparker007since reading your initial post on this I downloaded an app on my iphone 13 to try out the Lidar feature. I knew the phone had it but I'd not used it for 3D models. I downloaded a free app on the apple store (suitably named "3D scanner app") and was pretty impressed by the modeling ability but was unable to get close to the quality you provided in this thread and wonder if they are highly edited. I've got a couple of arcade machine at home so could scan one as an example but I wondered if you'd already experimented with the best apps and way to capture the data with an iphone?

@johnparker007 it's really quite fantastic what you've achieved here. There is something so magical about playing a machine and having other machines running in attract mode around you, taking your "cash" and strolling the arcade to see what takes your eye! Some of the ideas you've shared would be great touches too. I've just enjoying the journey and seeing what you're able to achieve - such amazing results already. I watch on in awe. Thank you so very much for dedicating so much of your time to this project - so grateful. Cheers. Hoping to see some older machines in due course

Here is the rom you will need to also unrar and put into that directory.

@Reg I know you guys run this as a hobby and it's a passion but I wish businesses provided the same level of service, response and support (for paid services) that you provide. Never ceases to amaze me the help and support I get from you and this group. Thank you so much

Argh, I was going to ask similar quesiton
,
but I was after MFMEv3.exe and that's not available from what I can find.
There is a layout https://www.fruit-emu.com/forums/index.php/files/file/614-snappy-viper-dx-layout/ I'm keen to try (I like the flat board on this layout) - but if I try to open in MFME5 upwards it says the res file isn't there (despite it being there). I figured I might try v3 on it?? Any suggestions to get the above layout to work? (I've added the roms and all the other snappy viper layout work okay).

Can anyone help me gain access again to my account that was on the MPU Mecca at https://www.fruitemu.co.uk/?
I know this is DessertIslandfruits.com but I'm working on the assumption that maybe someone knows who manages this possibly?
If I attempt to access members areas I get and error 20 which is fair enough but it looks like the registration process is no longer active as that throws up an error when you attempt to enter new details..
The annoying things is I have an old account but it's locked and the password reset isn't working either
it's got some great content on it and I want to access some old forum discussions
