  1. I'd always been tempted to repurpose one of my digitals in that way when one dies. Something like my Electrocoin Vegas Strip cabinet. Lovely and compact and a pair of 4:3 screens. I mainly play lo-techs anyway these days, so it would be easy to have that type of machine in a dual screen config. Would also work nicely with lo-techs with a set of top reels in the top glass. Mind you I've still not made any progress on my cabs. I probably ought to sell some of my collection off, might give me a kick up the arse to work on the MFME cabs.
  2. I love the Bubble Bobble series, and had no idea they released a console version of Bubble Symphony. I'd only ever played it on MAME! Will check this out later, ta
  3. Some music really hits harder when put into context... so a couple of examples really stand out for me. A recent one, while playing through Zelda : Links Awakening (Switch re-release) for about the 50th time, is the Face Shrine theme. It's a lovely version of the original song, which features the original Gameboy music which kicks in just after the 50 second mark. It comes at a part of the game when you discover a truth that changes the way you feel about the game, and your purpose within the world. It starts to become a bit darker. Again you probably won't feel anything unless it's a game you've played and understand the significance of the Face Shrine. Another obvious example would be something like the Aeris death theme from FFVII. On it's own it's a beautiful piece of music, but taken in the context of when you first hear it play, it's much more impactful. (edit - just realised this is the 16 bit forum - sorry! Didn't notice on my phone browser!)
  4. While this post wasn't directed at me, I've potted loads of club machines over the years. Issue was finding out that there was so much variety in the way the jackpots were available. Some were an easy enough force, a bit like a longer winded pub machine session. Some were utterly unforceable, and the jackpot / cashpot just seemed to be unlocked at random (although more likely it was a set amount of credits between them, say 10000 credits or something daft). Some were (or at least appeared to be!) literally just pub machine code, with an extra prize on top of the ladder. They typically played like a pub machine of the day, with a massive block before the jackpot. Some of them the feature had bugger all value, and you basically had to wait for the machine to either drop the jackpot / cashpot win 1 symbol away on the winline and give nudges.
  5. Lord of the Rings Club. Try and get a jackpot without looking for the method (unless you already know it). Don't think it's even possible to get a jackpot without using it!
  6. Shows just how amazing a gift he gave us, and how talented he was. Despite him not having been here to keep updating MFME for the last 3 years - people are still finding resources, building cabinets and releasing previously un-emulated machines. Bar the most recent stuff (most of which is utter garbage anyway) I couldn't have imagined quite how many machines would be covered. Obviously we won't know for sure (unless he ever told anyone) but I'd imagine he didn't realise quite how many machines and layouts would have been done when he first put the emulator out there. I don't think I've ever come across a piece of software with such a long lifespan. Thanks again Chris.
  7. It used to be frowned upon 'back in the day' when people just joined sites to ask for ways to make money on machines without contributing. But these days there's bugger all advantage to be gained from old methods and it's good fun to play about in the emulator and see how others were taking all my money out of the machines
  8. These older PopCap games were bloody addictive. Peggle (the original, also Peggle Nights) might be worth a shot? Not sure you'd enjoy it but it's a simple, relaxing game that will leave you wanting to punch the screen at times. Unfortunately then EA bought PopCap and totally ruined them as is often the case
  9. Yeah, it's currently at my house, it's in the dining room (I've been allowed a total of 2 machines in there), so have gone with my Interplay MFME cab which is still nowhere near complete, and obviously the one I bought from No1Stoney. Doesn't seem fair to keep them in the machine graveyard. Sorry I mean mancave I'm debating a couple of tiny technical tweaks to it, but only things that I feel might enhance it. One is that the top of the hopper is totally obscured. I think it would be nice if you could access the hopper from the top, even if it's just a holesaw job. A tidy holesaw job mind. I like to be able to see how full a hopper is
  10. It's a great cabinet, and he's only up the road (25 miles or so). If he changed his mind down the road I'd be absolutely willing to let him have it back. For all I know he could already be planning a more extreme build with what he learned on this one? It's gone to a good home (mine, obviously. Can't be that bad as Slotscat quite enjoys it here!).
  11. Sold to me, currently keeping my half-converted Interplay happy Amazing how much of an extra dimension having coins in/out makes, and the front-end that's on it is bonkers. It's quite scary seeing your profit/loss on a decent large display at the bottom As an example of what can be done it's brilliant. Top man too, very helpful. Back to losing my shirt in Monopoly Wheel of Wealth now
  12. Surprised I hasn't seen this post before. Very fair price for a fully working MFME cabinet. I'm tempted myself as I'm too lazy to finish building my Interplay. Hopefully someone beats me to it! (edit) Where you have put it requires two people - is that due to it needing to be moved downstairs for example? If not I'm sure I could move it by myself with a sack truck
  13. They aren't, but MFME should automatically download the ROMs on first boot. Unless that functionality has been removed? In any case, ta for sharing them
  14. They were both released as MPU5, and possibly MPU6 too. There was a crossover period where some machines were released on both platforms. I had a Can You Dig It and I can't remember if it was MPU5 or MPU6. Part of me is confident it was MPU5 in which case it should be possible to run in MFME - but my memory could be playing tricks on me (it was a while ago now, must be a good 10+ years or so!!). There was a Star Wars clone of it which definitely runs. The problem would be though that even if it was an MPU5 release, you'd need to have the MPU5 ROMs available. If they aren't available it's not possible.
  15. If you are referring to fruit machines then no, you need to extract the files from the ZIP archive
  16. So, I've got my cabinet running nicely with physical lit buttons. However, I'm planning on sorting out coins in/out at some point. I've read a lot of issues on previous threads regarding hoppers not working due to them not sharing a common ground with other components (iPAC, PACdrive, e.t.c.). I'm currently using a teeny little PC with separate external PSU (basically it's a laptop AC adapter). Now, this is probably stupid and completely wrong so I will ask some of you electrical types before blowing myself and the machine up... I'm using the original mains supply inside the cabinet (basically it's 5 or 6 IEC sockets). This has an earth harness connected. Could I use that existing earth harness as a common ground for the hopper? Or is that dangerous and/or utterly stupid? I assume since every other device is connected to that single point (albeit via IEC plugs) that might act as a common ground?
  17. So I'm at this point now. Quite happy with it so far!
  18. Little bit of progress on this one : 1) Gave the hoppers to Spa (might need the metalwork back in the future if I attempt to do coins in/out with a Universal hopper... or not! Will depend on if and when I go the payout route, and if I use an old Universal hopper or use an Azkoyen...) 2) Have today installed a PACdrive and iPAC to run buttons and lamps - all is working correctly! I was planning on installing the amplifier and getting sound working today, but that'll have to wait 'til tomorrow as I'm going to switch the PC in it for one with a 3.5mm output and put the Alienware Alpha back in the front room. Oh, forgot to mention, I got the touchscreen working fine too, was just a case of finding the manufacturer of the panel and luckily they still make Windows 10 drivers. Using the calibration software in the driver package I was able to calibrate the screen for portrait mode - that's another issue sorted! I'll probably share some pics of my dodgy wiring and stuff tomorrow. A bit knackered now though
  19. It's one feature that while I can see why Chris removed it, I used quite a lot in the old days. You could try a much older version of MFME but that wouldn't be much help if you needed to run more recent ROMs. I can't remember when variable speed was removed, it was probably around the days of the old 'hacked' / leaked versions of the emulator (v9.4?). I've used Cheat Engine as shown above but it does something odd sometimes, I've had games freeze, lock up, had garbled sound, e.t.c.
  20. ... yeah, I just checked mine and turns out it does have one too! I was convinced it didn't. I'd be surprised if the hopper in yours is actually faulty. Have you done the usual - taken it apart, cleaned it e.t.c.? I've lost count of how many times I've found random screws, nuts, bolts, and random odds and ends in the hoppers
  21. I'm a bit busy today but am determined to get this touchscreen working... First thing I'll do is get the Interplay image loaded up and see what drivers it uses and hope there is a Windows 10 version of those drivers. I totally forgot that I'd ordered an amplifier last night too. Just a basic one which runs on RCA and 3.5mm in. Of course I've just checked the Alpha and it doesn't have a 3.5mm output... so I might have to dig out an old DAC or get a little USB powered DAC to use with it. ... Should have just paid more and got an amp and DAC combined (another edit - 16:15 on 12/04/23) I do have some spare old computer bits... I'm wondering if I just sell the Alpha on and use some of my old bits. I've an old AMD (pre-Ryzen) with iGPU, mATX form factor, and an old Xeon 6 core which is ATX. The Alpha is a lovely, cute little machine which I could pretty much velcro in to the case. But it's so tied down. With a normal case I can chop / change and experiment more. Hmmm...
  22. The Interplay doesn't have a 10p hopper, so not sure how much use it would be Back to the Interplay - I've put the PC in and have been playing about in Windows, and I've hit a bit of a snag. The touchscreen only works correctly in landscape mode (which doesn't look right, as obviously this machine had the screen mounted in portrait mode). If I change the display output in Windows to portrait mode, then graphics and things display correctly - but then the touchscreen doesn't function correctly (it acts as though the screen is still in landscape - see attached vid for example). I can't get it to calibrate in Windows when in portrait mode either. This is running on Windows 10 on the Alienware Alpha, so a sort of PC / laptop hybrid of sorts. Wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue with screen orientation and touchscreens before and might have a suggestion.
  23. Possibly, but I did eff up the socket in the cabinet (well, didn't eff it up, but surprised they'd soldered and heatshrink rather than just using spade connectors. I just snipped the loom at that point). The hopper is unaffected. Pretty sure it's just a single £1 universal hopper without the 10p hopper you normally get in a T7, not sure if that'll be an issue for you?
  24. So my T7 PC died, and since the Interplay was... Well... a bit like a low-budget T7, I decided to take the guts out and keep them for spares. I'll use the PC for my other T7, the MPU6 for the same (but it'll need different software), and the Vega note acceptor / recycler for one of my Astra cabinets. Can't say I haven't got my value out of it. I've kept the looms and things intact - albeit removed - but can't see me converting it back at any point. The only wiring left in place is for the monitor, PC power, earth, that kind of thing. Interplay had about 22 games in total, with my HASP having 5 licenses. Nothing special really apart from Hot Hot Hot £70, Crackpot Jackpots which was basically a £70 version of the RR with shots and bonus gambles, and Shanghai Surprise which I believe was like It's Amazing but also on £70. So I'll be turning the Interplay cabinet, now gutted, into an MFME cabinet. It's got a few positives - 7 physical buttons. The originals were RGB LED but I can't think of an easy way to implement that, so I'll be sticking which white LEDs and possibly adding decals or coloured acrylic or similar. It's already got a rather large (32" I believe) touchscreen. Not sure of resolution but probably only 1366x768. I'm really only planning on running lo-techs anyway! It's currently got an SR5e coin mechanism in, however I assume that - when I go for coins in/coins out, it should be an easy swap for an old Cashflow / MARS mech, whichever is best. It's lovely and roomy inside. As you can see in the photo, it opens up and you can pretty much climb inside. All I've done so far is get the cabinet in the house and gut it, but as I do little bits and bobs I'll update the thread ... (edit 17:15 11/04/23) Have decided to shove my old Alienware Alpha desktop in it. It's small, it works, it has decent graphics and CPU, but is a bit old hat now. Only teeny issue being that to use the existing kettle plug inside to power it, I've had to order a kettle plug to cloverleaf adapter... grand total of £3.50 delivered by Kenable. I could make one myself, but since I only have moulded plugs, it wouldn't be tidy. I can still test it for now though. Also the PC will eventually be mounted in a more solid manner... but since it's so small and light, I'm just going to hang it in place for now! One quirk of the Alpha is that it has optical digital output. So I might buy a cheap little DAC and AMP, and use the original speakers built in to the cabinet. They sounded pretty decent to me, might as well use them!
  25. No worries! Was it in the Harris Amusements? Last time I was there (a while back) they had quite a few Fair Games upstairs along with all the old Bar X flat top cabs. I love to have a proper session on one of them and try and get the Crazy Money streak out of one but I'm too scared incase it takes hours and like £100 despite only being 10p play!
