Have you tried adjusting the speed of the touchpad (I think you mean how fast the cursor moves when you move your finger across the touchpad)?

I always change mine so it's quite quick and I also have the enhance pointer precision enabled as well.

Never knew you could do this I’ll need to slow it down as to touch sensitive

You can usually adjust the amount of force used to press the touchpad so if it keeps selecting things when you type, you can change it so that it requires more pressure to tap it and is less sensitive to your palm or thumb catching it when you're typing.

i never liked a touchpad, i always prefer a physical mouse instead, and just currently have my touchpad switched off, as when typing on the keyboard on the lappy i kept moving it all over the screen with the palms of my hand too lol, till i learned to turn it off using the hotkeys. (F7 on mine)
