Yeah there were some bad times back then, 1991-1994 were my real hardcore addict days, from 1994 things slowly got better as me and Mrs Degsy were together from then, but there were still a bad few years to come. (My last proper blowout was the infamous 'destroying my own car with a rock' escapade.)

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of happy memories from that period too, but always against the awful backdrop of crushing addiction.

I have got the Gambling Low Ebbs #1 video recorded and whilst it was really scrappy as recorded it's come together OK in the edit but I'm still not happy with it TBH, but not sure I fancy recording the fucking thing again, so it might just get the best tidy-up job I can do and go out in that state.

I spent most of the 90's as a hardcore gambler, sometimes even roughing it in seaside resorts just to keep on gambling, usually when we couldn't get a B&B I might add, it was sometimes difficult to get a B&B when there are 2 or 3 young kids.    Some of these were great times though, gambling all day, clubbing it till 3am then dossing around till the cafe opened and then doing it all again.

AE, it depends on what you knew, the only cracking info that I got was about the P1 DKs right from the start.  They were everywhere, some arcades had half a dozen.  I payed a mate 200 quid a week to play them for me, and I still made something silly like 10-12k  a month profit.  That was going from 9am until 3am in nightclubs, arcades, with a locations list.

How much do I have now?  Nothing, I'm bankrupt (and working)

How many children do I have?  None, not married, still single.

How is nmy health? Fucked. Just returned to work this week after a 3 month breakdown.

How much cash do I have?  About 150 until the end of the month.

Do I own a property?  Of course not, never have, always rented.

 

Don't read shite that's posted onJPF or the FB group, it's 99% bollocks.

That said, if you know your stuff, on £100 AWPs, there's serious cash to be had.  Don't know the info, you'll get fucked over.

Don't try it kids, I packed in tabs and drink and that was piss easy compared to the the grip any kind of gambling can take hold of you.

There's no glamour in it, stinking of piss, because you've wet yourself because you know something, and can't leave a machine.

As J says there maybe have been great times, it wasn't for me.  Making money yes, but working up to 20 hours a day 7 days a week will take it's toll.

Looking forward to seeing your gambling low ebbs chop as I sure we will all relate in some way to the behaviors that a true gambling addict displays.

Looking back I wasted a good 8 years of my life between 18-26 playing a piece of metal with 3 or 4 reels turning round and round, when most of my mates were out, drinking, clubbing and meeting women, while I was chasing a bloody cashpot in a working mens club - sad.

I think it was the deceit I was ashamed of more than anything, i remember even collecting everything i had of value one day, fishing reels, rings, cameras, games and cashing it in at cash converters to get a paltry £40 to go play the machines.

Gambling addiction is tough

Looking forward to seeing the gambling low ebbs video... from what i have read here and seen on other youtube videos there are some facinating stories around the subject, I have never been in the shoes of you guys though, I've always been just a casual player, I'm too tight with money to put loads in... i think my record amount i spent in an arcade in a day was £50 but that was a one off.... just a drop in the ocean compared to the true gamblers out there. :)

Gambled every penny I had, plus the banks, also for me, I never knew or learnt any tricks/bugs etc, to make any of my money back for all those 28 years. 

Certainly by mid 2000's, if not slightly before, online though was my real addiction. Offline addiction was down to the reasonably mild stage, by the mid 2000's for me.

I'll be 48 in June and all things staying equally, I should be able to retire in my mid 50's, 57 at the latest. When the above thead started,  was 38 and in thousands of pounds worth of debt.

It contains some useful information about machine emulated years ago, with release threads etc, giving pointers sometimes to issues with layouts from years ago, plus some tips for old machine, that if you haven't fired up in the emulator for a long time, you may have forgotten about.

It's a good read, albeit, painful in parts for some of us, with some of the real slanging matches us members got into.

I can certainly relate to most of what you’ve said. My gambling started back in 1990 unfortunately the machines had entertainment value back then so you got easily hooked, I spent long hours working in chip shop staring at the machine there then playing it after work. I used to go to pubs with what few friends I had but played machines more than socialising.

i bought a machine key so I then “helped” myself with more cash to play  up chippy. Then a bad job decision came in my predicament.

i went to work in a holiday park, working 60hrs a week for as little as £3 per hour the little time I had off was spent in the park arcade or a short bike ride to burham on sea.

playing £4 slots and 2p machines

i used to rob and steal from the shop I worked in or fiddle the till for extra cash something no one should be proud of!!

then I got fired as got caught so back home I went living at home got another job but the arcades still a major Bain on my life.

now the present I still think sleep and eat gambling, who doesn’t on here?? I  now have kids so gambling now restricted mainly online but still use any spare cash I have which isn’t a lot with kids lol.

So I supposed they’ve saved me from a certain fate.

if I count every penny spent through gambling it must be around the £200,000 mark just think that’s a house paid for.

but all through my gambling years I’ve always paid the bills on time and have never been in debt through this evil hobby

I can safely say I never pissed myself.   

I was lucky to get out of gambling, I'd always had a decent job, but that was suffering from my destructive lifestyle.   I had two separate lives, gambling and the fun social stuff with women, drugs, music etc...  I was an indie kid at heart, but gambling won out every single time and I lost a lot of the good friends... I'd say that's my only regret looking back.

Latest video now live, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK by Red Gaming. Video is 50/50 between the machine itself, and chatting about the layout's evolution as Reg asked me to playtest and assist with it.

It's simple really each row on the right represents a winline, each arrow landing on the reels adds arrows to the corresponding winline.

So looking at your chart, the top row of arrows is winline 5, the 2nd is winline 2, the middle is winline 1, the 4th is winline 3 and the last is winline 4

This one was far from simply for me.

Until we had the chart on the work that @Chopaholic had done, TBH, it just looked like a random mess to me.

Working on a not brilliant picture coupled with never seeing the machine - it was just a bloody mess.

On the video, the first one he showed was done a good while ago - but I was just never in the position to progress this to a final layout as it didn't feel right.  It was like Red Gaming had been sitting out in the sun too long.  It's fine making machines complex and complicated - but you know, in real life there is never a manual etc for them and I'd hate to think how much a machine takes with  players burning cash just to figure the thing out.

Thanks for the further clarity (comments have been left by folks on the video as well explaining this), looking at the machine again it is now clearer how the reels map out to the arrow rows, but on the couple of occasions I played the real machine (admittedly rather drunk) I didn't cotton onto that, and it eluded both me and Reg in the emulator. I can now see however how the end of each reel translates to its corresponding arrow row.

From the images available I can't work out if the arrow matrix lamps have inserts to show which reel they correspond to, i.e.

5-5-5-5-5
2-2-2-2-2
1-1-1-1-1
3-3-3-3-3
4-4-4-4-4

If those inserts are present then that would of course make it much clearer, (It looks like something is inserted into the lamps but I can't work out what).

Anyway, glad it's cleared up now, and fundamentally we got to where we need to be, Reg produced a layout that worked properly but confused us both, and then from there we did at least satisfy ourselves that the matrix behaviour was consistent and not random, and that the layout was correct.

That is such an involved emptier, surely it's got to have been programmed in deliberately and insider information given. I can't see how anyone could work it out. Even if they did work it out, how they would have remembered the steps to achieve it. 

Having said that it's difficult to imagine someone coming up with such a complex routine, in the first place. 

There must be some very cunning and clever minds out there lol.

I'd say it's not that the emptier was coded in, more that it's just a case of there not being any code to deal with this specific combination of play.   Fruit machine programmers use high level languages for coding these days and it's very likely, if not law, to have the code commented throughout.
