YouTube Emulation Extravaganza

I had a thread over at Fruit-Emu for this, but the forums there have been quite badly bust for a little while now so I'll transplant the thread over here if Reg is agreeable :) Also, DIF has proved to be a really solid FME site and Reg runs a good tight ship too, so this might be a better place for it anyway. (Especially because I'm posting to the RAM+GAM file forum here with the rare ROMsets I've covered in videos, and also the autoplay files for maxed out cashpot DONDs and suchlike.)

If you're not already aware, my channel is at the link here, it's all about fruit machines, fruit machine emulation, and occasionally videos of me out on the beer playing real fruit machines. There are also a couple of uploads of old online casino sessions - https://www.youtube.com/c/DegsyDegworth

Over at Fruit-Emu I would add a post to the thread with a link to the most recent video I'd uploaded, it worked quite well as it gave folks a chance to talk about the machine, memories of it, the layout, a bit of the emulation history and so on.

Latest video on the channel is Blue Moon, the old £4.80 jackpot lo-tech AWP from Barcrest, which somehow they managed to fail at, and it was emptiable. Mad skillz there, Barcrest.

Welcome to your YouTube Thread and thank you for your kind comments.

I was just clicking through to respond to a PM, if was about a site issue and I see that I had got @Tommy c problem fixed with this phone ( this is why the chatbox will be cleared every week as per the link I now have in it ) and I saw this.

Simply put - a pleasure to have you on the shores here and you're always welcome.

Ohhh not loaded this one up in years, look at 3mins when you enter a pound and it's waiting for you to hit start. The lamps fade in/out is lovely, loading up old DXs made in early versions of the emu before it supported dimming lamping etc is like a new experience at times. Think we've found the next v6 update candidate. :D

Great video and yes anything £4-4.80 wise excellent machines possibly the best we had even lo tecs, only ever remember getting done over by a lo tec from this erabut cant think for the life of me  if it was a barcrest or project but both played much the same had a nutty streak on them,so you sort of knew as you said. But this day got hit with £90 loss!! ya won bits and bobs but no streak which was unusual,so probably been done over, As regards your £43ish profit most of that if not all would of been tokens. So if in a pub buy beers for the night if no one watched you plugging the thing or in an arcade and replay your tokens which, don't forget put a machine on a 60% payout so you was been f**ked over again.

As regards manufacturers f**king up and with proof on videos i wounder if theirs grounds to sue!!!! After all if its not working right take it back and get your money back. Now all i after do is work out how much overall iv spent in these things!!

As you said in the video, this isn't the only one.

Cloud 999 also used to have the streak in it on the 2p play at Butlins. It makes sense really, factory reset, generous, then go on the streak a few quid later and then just plug it for a factory reset. It all seems so simple. I guess if you knew a place where the machines were switched off overnight, you'd be outside waiting for it to open every morning lol.

The nasty bug is it reseting the RAM, the compensator values are usually checksummed to ensure their intergrity, but it seems the checksum is only recalculated when the win completes in this instance.

It's actually quite hard to write code that can handle a plugging as it can happen at any point.

That would work if the battery backed RAM was shagged, otherwise it wouldn't be a RAM reset. (As Wizard notes above, and also demonstrated in the video.)

I remember an arcade in Bury had a lo-tech machine of some description by one of the lesser known manufacturers, (I really can't remember the name of the machine or the company, and I don't think it's ever been emulated), that did a factory reset every time they turned it off and on. As I went in the arcade so often, I noticed that every morning the reels were in the same position and if I played it, I'd win about a fiver.

I managed to keep this up for quite a few days until the arcade cottoned on and fixed the machine :D

Needs to be plugged at the right time, so overnight switch off makes no difference.

Doh, that's why I never made my fortune.

Nice story. They must have thought you were keen.

Yep I forgot about the several times on the video, you mentioned it had to be during the count up:mess_4:

I used to have a Cloud 999 local to me that had a flat battery, so every morning left mixed 999 on the line...  Thank you very much ;)

I remember plugging a 5p £3 version that never streaked, it didn't respond well after a ram reset either.  I noticed in later revisions especially Nudge Nudge Wink Wink, the early version plug would come back with it having to reach it's target percentage from scratch like normal, later revisions started off more balanced percentage wise after a ram reset.

You can ram clear some other MPU4 based machines if you can reset the machine at the crucial time.  Sunset Boulevard can be ram reset from the Blue Sevens, timing is critical.   I did manage to ram clear a Road Hog once, totally by mistake.  I was on the feature board and I plugged the machine when it came back it had ram clear reels, still have no idea what I plugged it on.

Watched that last vid of yours Chops, god what has happened to AWP's I haven't really played them since the £25/£35 era.

No wonder I never see people playing the fruits the odd time I manage to get to the pub these days. The entertainment factor has completely gone.

That's not an AWP, we have different legislation over here so the old S16 machines (or B3/B4 as they're known now?) are allowed in pubs.

So that's:

1) Random

2) £500 cash jackpot

3) Up to £2 per play

In the UK they're not allowed in pubs so they still have 'normal' fruit machines, albeit with £100 jackpots at up to £1 per play.

The machine I play at the end of the video (Swing My Axe) is the sort of machine you'd find in UK pubs.

The random £500ers have proved to be very popular over here, and have pretty much seen the traditional fruit machine out to extinction.

Ahh sorry, although amusingly enough my comments about the random machines in that video pretty much hold equally true for £100 AWPs, utterly pointless machines with no entertainment value and no reason whatsoever to play them!

(Except compensated AWPs can of course can confer an advantage to the player, which the random machines can't. And make no mistake, that's the only reason I play (certain) £100 AWPs.)

Whilst playing this, just had the £210.  105, followed straight away, couple of spins for another 105.

So from the downloaded layout, 330 in, 425 out. 95 up....... which sounds great, but, I got a 105 pretty much straight away, then it went dead for about 150, got a 70, then dead again for about 150, then got the 210.  The rest was open tomb wins when I was messing around trying things.

NQ.

I disliked Reds back in the day, but still played this sort of Red quite regularly.

Took some massive beatings, because I thought £50 to £100 would be enough to not run completely out of change. But at a typical London 70% to 78% payout you can see how it wasn't.

Emulated,  was disappointed v10.1 didn't support them and was so looking forward to v5 doing so.

They are good to play emulated because of their unpredictably.

Not being critical of the video, but unless you deliberately attempt not to play them at all like a normal punter, like in the video, you'll never know just when it's likely to give you a £35 or top feature. Having said that even with your playing style in the video, it still had the capibilty to say fuck you, I'm still not going to play ball with you.

Cheers fella.   Easy to miss these skills when you are under a little pressure from recording.

I was honestly getting sweaty palms and all nervous about it :o

I'll settle for the fact I managed to hit it out to Winning Streak eventually, but as an overall Skill Cash rating I'd give myself a D- at best on that video.
